Omid and Chrits were the symbols of hope in season 1, in love young couple with a baby on the way, and TT used that hope that we had in them to make season 2 darker than evern by killing Omid (and breaking up the couple), making Christa's baby die and making Christa disappear for now.
Their stpries problably weren't going to end like these when they thought of them in season 1, but TT thought "hhhmmm what would be the thing we can do to make them see that you mean business? OH I KNOW!!"
SO I'm guessing CHrista will problably be around for Rebecca's birth, that would be interesting.
I think it will come into explanation later in the game. Surely they can't just end the Christa's baby situation the way we saw so far. Knowing Telltale I'm sure it will become important in the story later.

It was hinted at since Christa's first appearance. Not only that, but since there's another character pregnant in Clementine's group right now I'm pretty sure we'll hear more about Christa's side of the story. Though I'm a little concerned what could have happened. Especially when Clem said; "Just how Christa showed me" when she was sawing her arm. Had an unpleasant thought of what she may of had to do.
