Feelings on Luke

edited March 2014 in The Walking Dead

Luke seemed like a good guy in episode 1, but having some doubts now. Little things here and there, but they are starting to add up.

  1. When Carver comes to the house, He warns Clem the group isn't as good as it seems
  2. Luke talking about how he used to jump over roofs (a behavior more or less like Clem said "stupid"/reckless)
  3. Talking to Nick just before searching the house for food. Nick says something about how he followed Luke blindly and in retrospect maybe he shouldn't have. (or that's how I took it as)
  4. Where is he with the big showdown with Carver? Kenny said he wouldn't stop complaining?

Doesn't look good-(Glad I sat by Kenny now). Thoughts?

Comments

  • Luke seemed kinda pissy. He seems to get angry if you don't follow him. Now I'm just waiting for the "can of beans".

  • I don't think Luke is bad, but I think Nick's words to Clem after the bridge have weight. Luke is starting to come across as a character who is always ready to put the past behind him a moments notice without regret or reflection. After he figures out Nick killed Mathew his first instinct is to cover it up and put it behind them. With such a dire circumstances at the ending of episode 2, is it possible Luke decided to cut his losses and go on his way leaving his group to Carver? I suspect the truth won't be that simple, but it doesn't seem entirely outside his wheelhouse either.

I doubt Luke would exit the series that way, but he for sure seems like a 'cut your losses' kind of guy. He seemed all too willing to try and make Nick forget about shooting an innocent man, and he was unwilling to give Clementine the benefit of the doubt about her bite, or help her out; if Pete hadn't been there, I'm not sure Luke wouldn't have left Clementine in the woods.

  • Oh for sure. That's what I meant by 'the truth won't be that simple'. I wouldn't suggest he just disappears, something would force him back into the group's path one way or another.

  • I think Luke abandoned Kenny while they were in the woods when they learned that Carver had shown up. He's not entirely the nice guy he was made out to be in Episode 1, but I still find that I like him the most out of the cabin group (with Nick being a very close second). I think it's good that he left, though, because the group is going to need outside help in the next Episode.

He didn't "cut his losses" when Clementine, Pete and Nick (Determinant) went missing. He actually went out of his way to search for Clementine. Remember, "Dammit Luke" from Rebecca?

You're right, but I wouldn't consider that a dire situation; let me play devil's advocate for a second here. Last Nick saw, they were alive. And although something bad could happen to them while they searched for them, it's not like Luke himself was in immediate danger. On another note, I was under the impression Carlos or Pete was leading the group, so imagine my surprise that Luke was really the leader who led them out of Carver's community. If Luke has really been the leader this whole time, would it have killed him to make a judgement call and at least give Clem some bandages? I understand things need to happen to make the plot interesting, but still.
