Telltale makes great games but...

They screwed a lot of people by not prepping for next gen. They should have realized a lot of people would be getting rid of their consoles when moving up. Either they should have been making versions for next gen or let keys be transferred to PC. Its just bad business and turns me off a lot. I love the games but to have to buy them twice because I upgraded consoles? I could see if I switched from xbox to ps3, but this is not the case. I was told I cant get a key for pc even if i prove purchase of wolf among us on xbox. The season pass. To force people to buy the same game twice even if theyll go through the work to prove they purchased is bad business. I will probably get trashed and told its my fault. In some ways it is, but i couldnt afford to keep my xbox just to play one game that took forever to make episode two after episode one. So please save the trolling bs comments. I know this is walking dead forums I am just posting a general point. There is no general forum. I would totally understand if i wasnt willing to go through the work to prove i bought the game but i am and was. They didnt prep for next gen and its disappointing. Theyre not the only company dont get me wrong. Just please save the dumb comments if you disagree with me explain respectfully dont call me a whiney baby because this is a legitimate point even if you disagree thats fine but its still valid.

  • I agree with your point and gave you a thumbs up.

This upgrading nonsense has gotten out of hand and is exactly why I have decided to not upgrade my computer any more.

I am also not buying a current video game system.

I have recently gotten into retro gaming, bought a SNES, and a couple of game that I had when I was younger.

Screw this buying a new video card and processor every couple of years or less. When my computer can no longer play the current games that are out there, I will stay with the old roleplaying games that I have on my Steam account. As long as I can use my old computer to monitor my ebay sales, I'm golden.

  • Uhm... isn't this the case with every game for the old consoles? Which is why you keep your old console instead of getting rid of it, so that you can play your old games? That's what I always did. I don't really think it's fair to expect them to give you a free copy of the game for another platform.

You should really consider getting the game on PC instead by the way. Doesn't lag like the console version (Why does the console version lag anyway? Seems weird.). Also you get new episodes sooner.

How about people who are either smart with their money or money is tight? You can't afford to keep the old one. Its different when the game is not available on other platforms. Im not expecting THE ORIGINAL GAME these are games that have season passes. I want EPISODE 2 that I was supposed to have accesss to when I bought the game how was I supposed to know it would take so friggin long in between episode 1 and two. That is the difference between here and other games. Also i asked for a key for the pc version. And I purchased WD on PC so the same thing didn't happen. Im not attacking them for not making an Xbox One version. I am saying in this case which is not so much the case with walking dead, but still is important for the whole community to understand, Wolf amoung us episode one was like what a year and a half ago? When I bought it i expected all the episodes BEFORE next gen. Not everyone can afford to keep their old games and console but that is also different.

Episodic games need to be prepared for this ESPECIALLY downloadable ones.

  • I havent been a pc gamer very long so I cant say one way or another how big of an issue this is. I dont need to play games on max settings I dont really care as long as they play well and till look relatively new. The PC my boss gave me the only thing less than 5-6 years old is the graphics card which is a 560gt 2gb that was like 150-200 and that was 2 years ago I can still play everything fine. I think the bigger issue is peoples obsession with playing on max settings that being said this isnt the point of my original post so i dont want to turn the discussion into pc upgrading lol. I appreciate that you recognize the issue and feel similar.

The Wolf Among Us was released in October and the PS4 and XBox One where released in November so there was no chance that they would release all episodes before the next gen consoles where released.

There could be many technical reasons why Telltale are not ready to release on next gen yet and they are not going to give out free keys because you changed systems.

  • Youre logic here is backwakwards. My issue isn't so much about being able to afford to keep my old xbox as it was abuout being smart with my money. That being said most people trade in their old console to help them pay for a new one as well as the physical games. The point about it taking a year between episodes was meant to illustrate that when I bought the wolf among us SEASON PASS that I expected it to be like walking dead and all the episodes would be able to come out within a year before the new system came out. You guys are all comparing apples to oranges and not reading the entire posts I'm making. Lets say i didnt even upgrade how about i need money to feed my kids or something like that not everyone can just keep everything that has value and can be sold when theyre in a tight spot. It wasnt my situation, but I at least have an understanding of that, its kinda something you might wanna think about.

  • I feel like you guys arent reading the whole post. I HAVE A PC and these are EPISODIC games. He means ps3 and ps2 originally. dont troll and throw off the thread. It is both parties fault in a way, but the developers EPISODIC ONES MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE need to be aware of their release date time frame for the entire season if theyre going to offer a season pass.

  • Also its not an old game its a different game right. Episode one is different than episode two Im not asking for the old one im asking for the new one. This is a season pass issue. You can't compare it to retail games or non episodic ones. If they are going to offer a season pass they should take this into consideration and make people aware. If you look at walking dead season 1, you would have expected all of season 1 of wolf among us would come out months before the xbox one launch. They shouldnt have offered a season pass if they knew they wouldn't be able to get um all out or they at least should have told people if youre not going to keep your xbox dont buy the season pass or buy on another platform

  • Its not a free key its a replacement. Im not asking for them to release on next gen. It seemed like a lot longer I also didn't get the Xbox One right away. Ok so on that point I am wrong and willing to admit it. Still you make consumers aware that there will not be a next gen version so if you plan to upgrade just buy the episode and not the pass. I still own the pass. I just dont have access to it. Why is it wrong for me to ask for access on the PC. I paid the same price. Why should I have to buy a new season pass? And please explain to me how its a FREE key.

  • Guys this thread is not about them not making next gen versions its about being able to keep the season pass. Lets say your computer breaks down , is your key invalid then? Why isnt my key just as good on pc as it was on xbox 360?

  • This is Sony's fault. On PS4 you should be able to play PS3, PS2 and PS1 games. But Sony intentionally does not let you play older games on the new consoles to get more money from the gamers.

I personally will NOT buy a new console until they will release one were i can play older games on, not just a couple of new ones like on PS4.

  • Why does everyone get rid of their old console? I mean if they still work why would you throw it away. There are so few games out now for the new generation

You paid for the season pass on the console which means that you can only have access the the whole season on the console, Telltale giving you a "replacement" key for the PC means that they are giving away a free key to you without getting the money for it, you could then sell or trade the key and Telltale would lose out of the money.

Its not a free key its a replacement. Im not asking for them to release on next gen. It seemed like a lot longer I also didn't get the Xbo

  • It's not as simple as making a console that allows it to do all that. Sony just can't make a new system and have it play everything from PS1 to PS4. Technology doesn't work like that. You have to consider the consoles limitations as well as it's hardware and emulating design. Since I'm not a hardcore tech expert and can't really explain the details, but basically, even if Sony made it to where the PS4 could play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games the system would cost a hell of a lot more than $400.

On Windows 8 you can play games designed for Windows 95. The PS4 hardware can easily run older games. The problem if from the soft which does not let you run older games. This can be fixed with a update, but it's not in Sony's interest to let you play older games on the PS4. Sony has contracts with huge game developers and they don't want to have competition from older games on the new console.

  • Same here, I honestly don't see the point in selling old systems since you never get close to the amount of money you spent to purchase it. Not to mention there are just soooo many games worth going back to, to play again whether it's a game on the NES, Genesis, Gamecube, PS2, or whatever. I still play my PS2 more than my PS3 and I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the same thing when the PS4 gets halfway through its life cycle.

  • Aye, I just bought a ps3 to look up all the exclusives I missed while playing on the 360.

I can wait until Fallout 4 is released before buying a new gen console.

I'm not so sure about that. Since I've already said that I don't know the exact details for why Sony couldn't make the PS4 backwards compatible, I found a link that explains in great detail as to why they couldn't make it play PS3 games.

    http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2013/12/12/why-isnt-ps4-backwards-compatable-three-reasons-why-you-cant-play-ps3-games-on-your-playstation-4/

So it's not as simple as an "update".

  • I think that, actually, it is a lot like if you changed from xbox to ps3.

From what I have read, the PSU in the xbox one is so different to the PSU in the xbox 360 that it is virtually a different machine.

I agree though, that as a telltale customer and an xbox user, it would be so much better if I could transfer my arcade games and saves.

  • No, if your computer breaks, your key isn't invalid. You just have to get a new computer to play it on o_O Telltale has no obligation to provide you with an alternate means to play it. Why would they?

Guys this thread is not about them not making next gen versions its about being able to keep the season pass. Lets say your computer breaks down , is your key invalid then? Why isnt my key just as good on pc as it was on xbox 360?

  • You bought the season pass for the Xbox 360, just because you sold your system doesn't mean Telltale has to give you a new one. That's like going to the movies, leaving halfway through, and then coming back the next day trying to get into the same movie with the same ticket, that's not how it works. Telltale has no obligation to give you a new season pass for a different console.

  • Personal I think you made a bad call, getting rid of your Xbox to save money. I'm sure that Telltale isn't doing the next gen systems yet to save money as well. You jumped the gun and are hating on them for doing the same thing your doing, being smart with money?

All the dumbthumbs for this thread confuse me made point and excellently explained it his dead right. Shouldn't have buy it twice as for me vita and ps3 game if big upgrade from systems be ok but exact same game so why, As for preparing for nextgen agree should prepared also be masterstroke as ps4/xbox have small library of bad games if game like this came along get more fans so more profit gamers would jump on this game as so many bad games and a lack of games on nextgen

  • I don't see how the idea of being smart with money and buying a new console close to launch work together.

Anyway in this case an episodic game is no different to any other. You bought an Xbox 360 game.

  • Nice to see another Fallout Fans here!

  • edited March 2014

They can't do that because PS3 and PS4 are two different architectures, PS4 has architecture close to the PC x86, but PS3 has architecture designed only by Sony (Cell processor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_(microprocessor). So it is not only the matter of changing the soft. To run old games they will have to sold the PS3 and PS4 in one case or software emulate PS3 which is verrrry hard, nearly impossible.

  • Smart with money as in, he committed to a new console and sold the old one probably for like 150$ and used that money to help pay for the new one. Or he bought food, clothes, or something useful.

  • That's what I'm holding out for!

Seriously, between TWD and TWAU still coming out, the DLC for The Last Of Us, and all the sales on PS3 games they keep running Sony is doing the worst job possible at getting me to buy a PS4. If either Tales from the Borderlands or Game of Thrones are next-gen exclusives that would probably do it, though.

  • See dem made a worthwhile comment you guys just bumped this thread that you think is stupid. Itd be different if I had ONLY bought episode one. Eposodic games are different. THe model is different see thats a fact you can disprove facts you cant disprove an oppion. Fallen neither one happened to be an issue for me i was pointing out how it could be an issue for others. Again you are proving that youre too much of a fanboy to see that this thread is ALL ABOUT STARTING A DISCUSSION. Also I said nothing about they should have made for next gen, my point was maybe they should have had a program for people who upgraded if they had a PC or iphone where they could get the game. Like I said and you didnt read I have a pc, i also have an iphone. why is my key no good anymore? Its not like i can sell it. Again though, THIS THREAD ISNT ABOUT ME. I gave my story to start a discussion on a bigger issue. Which means you guys attacking me for getting xbox one means you're either too lazy to read or too unintelligent and elitist to look at the other side. I just am so sick of idiots like you jumping to conclusions. Putting words in my mouth. This is what i get for trying to start a legitimate discussion on a forum or in general in america today. Fact = Opinion now and its really sad.

  • did you read what i said about proving that i still had access? Why couldnt they at tleast say episode two wont make it before next gen. Like you guys are making this all about me when i was just trying to give an example. You think im friggin attacking the company, they didnt do anything wrong i get why there doing what theyre doing. That being said if I went through the work to show my key is still tied to MY XBOX LIVE accoutn which is on a system I dont have they can deactivate that key and replace it with pc or iphone. WHats the big deal there. Im not saying they do it without proof. Its clear i understand business better than any of you could figure out in a lifetime. All i wanted twas to start a discussion on episodic games and the issue of people upgrading/changing systems. Anyone who says its the exact same as regular games just shoudn't be here/ You can argue opinions not facts. Theres not going to be 2 copies floating out there all they gotta do is deactivate the key it aint complicated. The consumer has to do the work to find it and prove purchase. I said that from beginning. Not that you did this, but people attacking me for buying xbox one just shows immaturity and fanboy fever. I love these games, i think this discussion should happen ACROSS GAMING. This is just one of the places I started because I had this issue. Again the money isnt an issue for me personally but it is for a lot of people and the people who can't respect that are the same people who sit on welfare and play wow all day.
