How does popularity, if at all, effect the survival rate of characters? Have you ever killed a character just because they were popular and you wanted to shake things up?
P.S: The last episode of the TV series was awesome.

In my opinion, I feel like characters ripen like fruit. So while I wouldn't say the more popular a character is the more likely they are to die, they do have to reach a certain level of popularity before they've "earned" the death.
No character is too popular to die. (Suck it, Reedus!)
So kirkmen waits for us to get fully attached to a character, and then kills them off....

The only character who is always safe is Carl, since it seems as if Kirkman had greater plans for him in future. Rick is still needed and therefore won't die yet and Michonne acts as some kind of teacher to Carl and will therefore also be spared. All the characters are being reserved for something else and Daryl will probably either get Dale's or Glenn's comic death.
What an douche, love to torture us. I'll hope TT keep him in bay.
THAT'S NOT TRUE!!! explain lori
She had a high level of antipopularity....?
I just love the last part of his answer.
"Suck it, Reedus!"
Your punishments must be more severe!
and THIS is why I LOVE Kirkman, not afraid to do anything.
Kirkman isn't working on the games and thank God because he's a hack.
There's nothing "brave" about slaughtering particular characters just because they've passed some kind of popularity test inside Kirkman's brain that warrants their destruction. It might have been innovative when WALKING DEAD first began as a series, but now it's just as cliched as the female protagonist of '80's slasher movies who always survives because she's a virgin.
Its more than just popularity. Glenn was likely the most popular comic character for a long time until he eventually died. Characters die when there is no more story for them
When Woodbury is......ashes
Well, that doesn't hold true for the games....Doug/Carley(one or the other), Mark, Alvin(though you can save him), you don't get much time to get to know them and I think the time you do get is wasted with them, you barely even talk to them.
Personally I think Kirkman picks all the wrong times to kill characters. The death of Glenn was forced for issue 100 just for the milestone. The all out war chapter should of started as soon as Glenn died but for some reason Kirkman does not start the war until 10 issues later. (thats 1 issue per month meaning 10 months of hardly anything thing.). That was a horrible choice it screwed up momentum of Glenn's death. Worse yet the characters dont even mention Glenn anymore.
Kirkman...
It's plainly obvious that its not really how it works. Plenty of unpopular characters have died. Kirkman is not afraid to do anything and that's what makes the comics great.
The man likes to tease his audience.
Well Carley may be a bad example. She died at the peak of her popularity...
But then it's not really how it works in the comics either. It's more everyone dies eventually, popular or not, and they go when the plot requires it. The game is pretty similar to the comic in that respect.
Kirkman is a massive troll. It's one of the reasons why i love the man. Many people falling for it in this thread.
As for Daryl. It doesn't matter who wants him dead since AMC will never allow it. Shame, because i feel we're reaching the stage where his plot has run it's course.
To be fair. Glenn had kind of run out of steam, he's become really scared about everything and for Maggie. He didnt have any purpose for the story anymore, his death gave Maggie a new arc and development. Also Maggie does mention Glenn quite a lot but why would anyone else? Nobody in the walking dead tries to think about the people they've lost unless there very close
he may not kill them now but might later. some people say they wont EVER DIE, But anything is possible
He also answered some questions about the game
How much do you have to do with the Telltale seasons of The Walking Dead? I really enjoy them but damn they're brutal.
RK: At this point, I feel like if I got too involved I'd just screw things up. I was slightly more involved in season one, I think, but really it was just a matter of me approving their story when they ran it by me. The team there did an enormous amount of work to get the tone and feel in line with what I do in the comics before they ever came to me. Before we started season 2, they asked me a lot about where I was going in the comic and some things they should avoid, and I gave them some notes, but for the most part, those guys have taken the ball and run with it... to what I think we can all agree is great success. It's no SURVIVAL INSTINCT. Man, this is fun.
Is there any possibility of Lee, Clementine or the other characters from the Telltale game making an appearance in the comics or TV series? That would be a cool crossover!
RK: It's not impossible... but I wouldn't be looking for it any time soon.
Hi Robert, big fan here from the UK! How well do you feel Telltale have portrayed your 'The Walking Dead' universe from graphic novel into an interactive game? Also, if you could write any of the characters from the game into the graphic novels, which and why? Thanks!
RK: I love what TELLTALE has done with the games. It's been amazing to work with a group of dudes and ladies who understand fundamentally what THE WALKING DEAD is and what makes it tick and watch them sort of run wild in the universe. The coolest part of my life these days is working with them, and the awesome team in the television show's writers room and Jay Bonansinga and not have this world all to myself and see what they come up with for the games, TV show, and novels. It's a lot of fun. So the TELLTALE game is awesome and I love it. Survival Instinct... not so much. ;-)
It looks like we wont see AMC ruin the game characters any time soon
Usually, the most popular characters have an interesting story to tell, if I am not mistaken.
I gave up on the comic a long time ago, but I've seen enough later issues and plot developments to know that pretty much is how it works.
Someone should make a T-shirt out of this, I'll wear it gladly.
I bet beth we'll be the hunters lunch
good thing he has no influence over the game.
Your guess is right:). He's just your typical alpha male, always cool, calm and collected. His character development is non existent in my opinion. Even Merle had more than him in my eyes. The ep with him and Beth is one where he supposedly got some(development people, not something else.) was absolutely terrible. Maybe he'll grow on me, but I highly doubt that. I also like to mention maybe I would've liked him more.... If it wasn't for his fans and their trademark "If Daryl dies,we riot!"
At least they are not too many spread around this forum, which is a good thing. Still, we better put this matter to rest before any of them come down on us.
Well Kirkman wants to show us that being good doesn't mean you're gonna survive in a world full of psychos and gungry people. Or simply make us cry like kids :v
did someone say that the daryl fanbase is over the top sometimes? KENNY AND HIS GODLIKE STACHE WILL SOLVE THAT PROBLEM! DUH DUH DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
If the TV Show follows the Comics with alternate characters then it will be either Carol or Tyreese, and I think it may be the latter.
I like the show, I don't read the comics. The game and show has gone quit in different directions I think. Season 1 of show was the closest it came to game in setting imo. I think game is better for this, it has this sense of mystery and exploration, going to CDC had that in season 1 maybe its back now in season 4 with Terminus and seperate groups. I think the show lacks likeable characters a bit, Rick was interesting in beginning but now hes quit messed up and almost insane, surprisingly I like Carl more and more. Game has nice characters like Clementine, Lee, it has its fun moments between the sad parts.
Probably right (fingers crossed its carl though cant stand the kid)
I don't really care about what Kirkman says about anything. He's not a very good writer.
Oh crap....you know what im changing my avatar i hate kenny now, him and his moustache i mean who even likes moustaches?.
And you could do better?. The comics have been going for over ten years now, doesn't exactly scream bad/unsuccessful writer to me.
i don't buy this answer...Daryl will only be killed off when ratings maybe drop, same with Rick. He's fast becoming the George Lucas of his creation (not understanding one bit of it)
So now you're saying Kirkman owes his success and talent to the fact he's a troll?
...well, that's depressing.
