I don't think he's replacing Duck with Clem. If he were, he would've talked a lot about himself, and times before the apocalypse. You gotta … morethink, why did he call her Duck, then? Well, almost every scene Duck and Clem were safe and at the motor inn, they were together. He had to associate Clem with Duck, and, obviously, Lee. He only knew her for five days after Duck died. Not enough to change associations.
He's pretty stable. Just an asshole. And I do not believe that he's treating Clem like Duck at all. I think he's treating a child as he knows how to. Which I guess is treating her like Duck, but he isn't thinking of her like Duck.

Well, Luke also wasn't the one that smashed an old man's head in directly in front of, and only ever bitched around Clementine. Seriously. E… morevery time they were in the same room, Kenny was bitching, so my Clem wasn't too happy to see him. Somewhat happy, but not hug happy. Luke, on the other hand, has saved Clem many times, and has been nothing but a positive force in her life. Yeah, I'd rather hug Luke.
