Angry Clementine

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

There are a lot of threads on here with theories that discuss Clem reacting, snapping, loosing her sanity and humanity, etc. I saw this play-through on YouTube where Clem slaps and punches Walter for allowing Nick to die. The scene is at 14:18.

After reading theories on here and replaying the scene, it kind of surprised me that Clem reacted like this considering that she only met Nick about a week ago (in the game's universe). How do you think Clem would react to the death/murder of any of the other remaining group members? What do you think will make Clementine react like this again? What event do you think will send Clementine over the edge?

  • When Luke dies.

  • I think the short term reaction would be similar for nearly anyone. Its the long term effects that will differ.

  • I don't really think that hitting Walter is a sign of sanity slippage. It's just an angry, somewhat irrational response to a situation that she doesn't fully understand. I might have done the same thing at her age.

clem had only known ben for a few weeks at most but got very upset about him dying/the idea of letting him go, i guess she just doesn't like it when people die that's all

  • That and she's probably angry that Walter had the chance to save another human being and purposefully decided not to. Being 11, I'm not sure that Clem can grasp how important Matthew was to Walter or that they were romantically involved. So in her mind, Walter's actions (or lack thereof) would have less justification.

  • That punch she gives Walter is really awkward.

  • If someone destroys her only keepsake of Lee, like the photo, I think she would lose it.

  • summed it up perfectly :3

It looks like she slapped him with both hands on both sides of his face at the same time.

Agreed. When I first saw the option, I thought "man, Clementine is going to bitchslap Walter into the next decade. I was sorely disappointed.

That punch she gives Walter is really awkward.

  • I think this is very likely to happen.

Hell hath no fury like angry Clem if that happens.

  • It would have been even more awkward if she'd started pounding her fists on his chest like children sometimes do when they're angry.

  • To answer the original question. I don't think Clementine is going to have a psychotic episode, but I'm pretty sure she is going to have to deal with at least some of her issues. For instance, I doubt Rebecca's delivery will be a pleasant experience after what happened to Christa's baby. It could trigger a flashback or a panic attack, who knows. If someone burns/destroys her picture of Lee, she will probably be extremely upset, but I doubt it's something she would have a psychotic break over. Same goes for the hat.

  • It would go something like this:

  • Whoa, that's not Clementine anymore....

  • If she reacts that way to Nick which she didn't care ALL too much for... just imagine what she'd do to someone for killing Luke, which in a way is like the older brother she never had.

  • damn, shits going to go down... HARD

  • She kind of does that in the non-canon deaths.

  • I feel like she's lost so many people so her reaction to every death just gets angrier and angrier. I'm kind of terrified of her losing it.

  • Well this is still optional so it doesn't actually tell the whole "Clem's snapping" story.

  • Someone needs to tell Lil' Miss Rambo to cool her jets!

Wow, my storyline did not play out that way and I had no idea this is the way it escalates. But I'm intrigued by this direction of character development. I think it actually represents the player's own psyche more than "Clem's". It's giving the player a variety of options to develop Clem's personality.

Also, seems to me this version of Nick did not take responsibility for his actions, whereas my Nick confessed. Seems that the player has quite a bit of control over what multiple characters decide to do and help to shape their characters. I think a Clementine in a world where Nick lies and then Walter lets him die, is going to turn out angrier than in a world where Nick apologizes and is then forgiven. Sort of realistic.
  • I want to see Clem do more of that, hopefully an event makes her completely go rage mode next episode.
  • What's wrong with kicking the shit out of someone who let someone else die? That's what I'd do.

  • I think the only reason Clementine reacted like that was simply because Walter was THERE. He could have saved Nick, but deliberately didn't. She thought Walter was a good guy, but he just let someone die when he could have done something about it. It was just a sudden reaction to something drastic.
