What the hell is wrong with Clem ? (spoiler heavy up to S2E2)

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

In season 1, Clementine was trying. She tried to be nice, and although I think she's responsible for a lot of problems (Talking to the man on the radio, trusting him, never following the group and never saying to Lee where she was. How was he bitten? Because she didn't listen.) and she also does, that's probably why she's getting thougher in season 2.
She probably feels guilty for Lee's death, she may be trying to hide her feelings by being thougher. But there's a difference between being though, and pouting.
Clementine is really annoying me. She met a lot of good people, she saw them fight for her, and she tries to help them back, to be part of the group. Maybe not frowning at every person she talk to would be a good start for people to trust and respect her. Even Walter ! Walter who was the nicest of all people we ever met, AS SOON AS she's alone with him, she starts pouting. He was only cooking and offered her to participate, exactly what she wanted : to be part of the group. And... She's rude, mean and frowning.
I try to trust people and let every character she meets have a chance to show how nice they can be... But with Clementine always, always being mean to everyone, it's really hard.

    CLEMENTINE IS GOOD!

    Especially sassy Clementine.

And I wouldn't say she is actually mean to everybody. She's changed, granted. Living in the apocalypse will do that to you, people can't really expect her to be the "old" Clem from the beginning of ep 1.

Well as I always say... LOL NO. Clementine is CLEMENTINE. CLEMENTINE IS GOOD! CLEMENTINE IS SPARTAA!!!

  • The part about getting Lee killed is true but i dont understand why you think Clem is being mean, she is still a sweet pea to me.
    I detect a troll.

She didn't really look all that frowny to me. Maybe it's just that her default S1 expression was always a smile and so whenever you see her neutral S2 face, you think she looks pissed off. I also don't really see how she's rude or mean outside of certain dialogue option that you can pick.

  • Gosh is everyone on this forum brain washed by the more popular user to think that everyone with another opinion than you is a troll?

    She's just a kid. A special kid.
    lol, trolls incoming...

  • She met a lot of good people

Who locked her in a shed. I don't know about you but I wouldn't be so quick to forget that.

  • How dare you say that?! Troll!

  • Show me one instance where Clem is being mean without a reason.. THATS WHY OP IS CLEARLY A TROLL.
You accuse me of being brain washed yet your alias is "LeeAintDeadFFS" what a contradiction.

There's nothing wrong with her. Clem is on the verge of becoming a teenager. Of course she's going to get moody from time to time, and that's not even taking into account that she's got a heck of a lot more to be hurt and defensive about than the average youngster in today's modern industrial world. But this doesn't mean she isn't a good person anymore. Once in a while, we do get to see glimmers of the sweet pea that we used to know when things calm down, such as how she reacted to her reunion with Kenny. So if she had the chance to take a breather from the apocalypse, I bet she wouldn't be so down all the time. The girl never catches a break.

My account name is a joke and do you think reminding Luke that he locked her in a shed for safety reasons is nice? Btw my account is from may 13 when that was more of a joke.

I think she's not being the sweet Clem because Sam taught her a lesson. Even when she's friendly with him he "betrays" her, maybe that's why she seems rude now.

    A few reasons actually...

    1. She barely knows the group and they locked her in a shed to die of easily-preventable infection.
    2. Surviving in the apocalypse precludes her from enjoying a normal childhood. It's only natural that Clem becomes a bit hardened.
    3. Everyone who she became close with after the outbreak died horribly and Clementine feels responsible for some of them. Being aloof and distant toward other survivors might be a coping mechanism.
  • She's almost a teenager, what do you expect?

  • Shes been repeatedly traumatized for years at a developmental age.

There, I cleared things up for you.

  • Its crazy how people dont seem to understand this and expect Clementine to be exactly the same way she was what, almost three years ago.

I think most people are ok with Sassy Clem.

  • Maybe you're a troll, but in case you aren't. I'll give my input here. You can choose for Clementine to be an emotionally scarred, hardened person or a kind, forgiving person. What ever choices you make shape your Clementine. You CAN choose for her to be nice. For instance, with Walter, you can agree with him and you get along pretty well with him. But not agreeing is also completely reasonable.

Nearly everyone Clementine has ever known has died and she's seen some fucked up things, her parents died, her father figure died, she was kidnapped, her entire group was presumed dead and she was left alone in the apocalypse. She came across another group and after seeing so many fucked up people and how the group welcomed her, I think she has a right to be distrustful and sour towards them. Some of them wanted to kill her.

After she got to know her group, she ends up being the mediator for all conflicts. She has to choose sides between the people she values most in the world(that are still alive) or not side with any of them, but no matter what, she ends up feeling like she did something wrong.

I think she has a right to 'pout' at this point. She's still a little girl and most adults would be 'pouting' in her shoes. It's impressive she stays as calm and collected as she does. Just look at Nick and Kenny, they're clearly both emotional wrecks, and they're both grown men. I think Clementine has a right to think things won't get better for her, her group and the world, I think she has a right to 'pout' to Walter about it. And note, she was right. Probably about 10 minutes after they had that conversation, Walter died, and Nick and Alvin possibly died(determinant), and her group was brought to a settlement against their wills.

Clearly, things are NOT getting better for her, they're getting much worse. They keep getting worse and worse for her, every time something good happens to her, it is followed by something bad. Also note, even after all this, she still considers being nice to others. Whether she is or not is up to how a person plays her, but you can be completely kind and nice to everyone, I don't know why you think otherwise. And not being nice to others is completely justified after what she's been through and how others treat her.

If you were in her shoes, would you really be so nice to people? Or would you be cold to them?

    RANT OVER! :D
