Is Luke the worst friend?

  • He will help Clem kill Kenny so no, he is the best friend ever!

  • I agree. Remember when he said "I know pete was close to you, but...." I hope things will change in the next episode. I still like luke, but he isn't the best friend to nick.

It's horrible that Luke treats Nick like crap.

Fine I admit that Luke has done things for Nick and I can respect that but Nick is in a deep depression now. Luke was even saying that Pete was his last anchor after Clementine said that Nick wanted to die. The way Luke didn't care about Clementine telling him that Nick wanted to die and he simply shrugged it off bugged me. What Luke fails to realize is that Pete wasn't Nick's last anchor, he is.

  • Well, Nick IS a screw up. He's almost shot both Pete and Clem on separate occasions, and DID end up shooting Matthew by doing exactly what Luke told him not to do. He's nowhere near as bad as Ben, though.

Suit yourself, you'll be banned again pretty soon. I don't know why you keep coming back.... If you're going to keep creating alternate accounts, at least don't be so obvious about it!

  • So he should have run over, sat him down, and had a long talk about Nick killing himself? At that point, if I remember correctly, they had learned that the maniacal Carver was hunting them and he had their scent. It wasn't the time for emotional conversation, it was the time to get shit done. Though I will admit he should have a conversation with him at some point I hardly think that labels him as the worst friend, especially again, when taking into account everything he's done for the guy.

PS Thanks for responding with a valid argument. Now that I respect :)

Remember the 5 day skip. We don't know what happened during those 5 days so Luke could have sat down with Nick and had a heart to heart during that period. This is why I hate timeskips. :/

  • True. But something so important to character development must be seen onscreen. Especially since the expected repercussions weren't seen through character interaction in the scenes after that 5 day skip.

In fact I'm acting like that 5 day skip just didn't happen, because it's that ridiculous.

  • I could argue that covering for Nick's mistakes is what's harmful for him as it doesn't allow for him to grow. His ability to make better decisions can only be improved through experience not by being sheltered from making them altogether.

Luke treats Nick like a kid. Always bossing him around.

  • True but they ran away from Carver for days! Why couldn't Luke sit down and talk to him during those days since I doubt they walked the whole time and most likely had breaks every now and then.

Coming up with the most ineffectual dialogue you could think of doesn't help your point. Unless you really think Luke/Nick are that incompetent, in which case I have no words.

I don't think so. In his defense, Nick telling Walter the truth really was a horrible idea, because they didn't need more people after them.

  • Nick said Luke had been getting on his case the whole week. So whatever happened between them during that timeslot wasn't pretty (even though I'm sure Luke's intentions came from the right place).

  • My point wasn't really supposed to be that they are incompetent, but moreso no matter how you say it, Walter would only hear/he would single out that they were the ones responsible for Matthew's death.

My guess is Luke probably attempted to take up where Pete left off in keeping Nick on his toes while simultaneously trying to limit his activities to things he couldn't screw up too bad. Problem with that is Luke is suppose to be his friend not a paternal figure so naturally that wouldn't go over well, IMO.

Though in retrospect, maybe they didn't argue but the bridge incident was just the straw that broke the camel's back after a week of pent up tension.

What do you think he means by Luke being on his case?

  • Why? Because nothing happened in those 5 days. Worst time skip ever.

True but they ran away from Carver for days! Why couldn't Luke sit down and talk to him during those days since I doubt they walked the whole time and most likely had breaks every now and then.

  • Poor Nick and Luke. Luke's trying to be something he's not which is Uncle Pete. Nick is the victim of Luke trying to hard to protect him. Nick needs his friend not another "Uncle Pete."

  • I dunno man. She doesn't seem to notice me anymore :o

  • You could, but then you would have to argue that Luke has been covering for Nick to such an extent that it doesn't allow for him to see when he's made a mistake and I just don't think that's true.

Based on Nick's conversation with Clementine in the shed, he knows full well that he's fucked up numerous times by now without Luke having to remind him of it. The only mistake that Luke really "covered" for him on is the thing with Matthew, which Nick had already expressed regret about before learning about Matthew's identity. And that wasn't even the first time that Nick has fired a gun at someone because he was overeager to protect his friends. The guy just doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes.

Besides this is the exact quote
"I'm worried about that kid. Keep an eye on him for me, would you?"
—Luke to Clementine about Nick after Pete's death.
He cares about nick and he's worried about him (considering nick had lost both his mother and his uncle without even saying goodbye presumably)

  • WTF Mustacheking. This is probably your eighth thread saying the exact some shit and, once again, backed up by no examples or evidence.

NO SHIT he was giving Nick shit for it, because he wanted him to be SAFE. He was concerned for his LIFE. Yet he is supposed to be a horrible friend for caring about Nick and worrying about his safety and the future of this group with Walter? Walter was on the verge of losing it, and had Clem not been there, Nick would most likely be dead.

  • It's a subconscious way of expressing that you view someone as less mature than you. It's one thing to say it light-heartedly but another thing when you're talking about someone clearly suffering from depression. Luke may not even realize it but he kind of subconsciously views Nick as less mature than him.

  • Luke was just trying to make a point. He was trying to tell Nick that he knows that he's still hurting from losing Pete, but you can't just be shooting people off of bridges.

But he does hear more than that, otherwise there'd be no way to save Nick. To be clear, I understand Luke's reasoning but his behavior is a slippery slope. The ones who were wronged were Walter and Matthew, two people who were good to him and his group. If his way of repaying that kindness is to skulk off at dawn without ever fessing up then he'd have rightly earned himself (and the group) a new enemy, IMO.

  • Yes because right now nick is really less mature (considering his uncle just died) like nick said luke has the trait to move on (or at the very least stay strong) heck for all we know that's what he's doing because when a loved one dies somebody needs to stay strong (still feel saddened but not let it hinder them and they just remember that person and their legacy

  • Luke doesn't help Nick through his depression at all! He just makes him feel worse about himself.

WTF Mustacheking. This is probably your eighth thread saying the exact some shit and, once again, backed up by no examples or evidence.

  • What!? What evidence do you have? Do you think showing him the picture would actually HELP his self esteem, knowing that he had just killed a man who was offering them shelter and now knows is innocent? You must be joking if you think that is the case.

Luke doesn't help Nick through his depression at all! He just makes him feel worse about himself.

  • Yeah dude go ahead

May I provide a theory on why Luke called Nick a kid?

  • I don't think we have to worry about that so long as the Hatchet of -12 INT doesn't have another guest appearance in the next few episodes.

Yet...Nick is not as bad as Ben yet

  • Remember when Nick started lagging behind because he was depressed? What did Luke do? Kept walking and ignoring him. He doesn't sit down and talk to Nick and comfort him. Nick wants to feel apart of Luke and Luke just pushes him away. Like when Nick wanted to go with Luke on bridge, Nick begged Luke, but Luke said no then the second time Luke ignored him and walked away. Nick felt horrible and useless. Luke's not helping Nick's depression!
