I think that it's important that we acknowledge that Luke is trying. Also that doesn't make any sense since Luke was dealing with Nick just … morefine when his mom died, but now acts like Uncle Pete after Pete's death. Nick needs to talk to Luke about this. Luke is trying his best to care for Nick, but Nick needs to sit down with Luke and explain that he wants his friend back, not another Pete.
What?! To far?! He was only fifteen meters away! Are you implying that Nick is def?! That still doesn't change the fact that Luke told Nick to stay the hell back and Nick didn't. He gunned down Matthew, plain and simple, he's barely hanging on to his mentality, and he slipped at that moment.
Actually, he has his gun in his hands the whole time. But it seems like Nick may have been too far away to hear Luke's warning so when Matthew raised his gun he assumed the worst from Luke's gestures.
Well, like Nick said Luke gave him a clear shot, as he was waving his hands around which is clearly a distress signal. Luke should have been more thoughtful.
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let this crazy ass Cluke shit go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Both are "realistic" because both are ways people actually act in real life. Maybe Luke's approach is more pragmatic, but still, Nick can't exactly control having depression. Honestly I'm pretty sure Nick had emotional issues before the apocalypse even started.
Fair points
But IMO what luke is doing is a realistic approach to this situation when a loved one dies there's two types of people the dep… moreressed (nick) and the ones who stay strong (luke) after a loved one dies somebody tries to full the void that thy left behind
To back up the strong statement remember that nick stated that luke always had that trait to keep moving on a trait that nick doesn't have to me that means that after a loved one dies luke (while possibly depressed about it) doesn't let it hinder him and does his best to honor that person
Another example is when he was talking to Clem about how he lost his folks he didn't sound depressed but just more accepting that he lost them but he'll never forget them

Nick said he didn't hear him. And again, the group likely saw both their friends in danger of falling off the damn bridge. I'm not disputing whether or not Nick shot Matthew just that there was a perfectly good reason for him to break the original plan.

Unfortunately I don't think they're going to get that chance.

The situation could've been handled better. Luke and Nick screwed up.
Cluke fans trying to hard.
Don't you say that! ;_;

well at least you have valid downvotes
Are you threatening me? I wouldn't do that if I were you.
You'll get banned because well nvm

What that's what I'm saying

That could be funny, if Kenny and Luke will become best friends. Then shut the fuck up all Kenny-/and Luke fans.
