Well when you look historically ''The Ukraine" meant "Borderland". And the area itself was always under someone else's control. Maybe only The Cossack Hetmanate could come somewhere close to independent Ukrainians. It was always under control by Tartars, Russians or even Poland-Lithuania. Since there never was a nation until 1991 that called itself Ukraine, it may confuse some people or simply show their ignorance. Although the land itself and people that lived there are definitely old, the nation itself isn't. Overall sorry to hear for the s**t happening about Crimea and other bad stuff, it is similar here in Serbia with Kosovo, although we don't have an all-out war. But for me it is the government to blame the most (as it is 99% of cases).
