Why bother with examinable objects anymore?

All through Season 2, I've noticed that they still put in objects you can examine. Unlike with Lee in Season 1, however, Clem never has any comment. She just stares at it a bit and moves on.

It almost feels like an artifact of the days when TWD was actually supposed to vaguely resemble an adventure game as opposed to an interactive story with dialogue choices and big decisions.

  • I'll miss remarks like "Hmm, pointy".

Seriously, though, Clem comments on interactive objects in ransacked camp in Episode 1. Just because we didn't have something like that in Episode 2 doesn't mean we won't in Episode 3.

Not to mention almost everything in the Moonstar Lodge that is examinable has some sort of interaction, rather than just staring at it like the OP said.

  • Oh yeah, I guess she does comment at the camp. Forgot about that. That's good.

What I don't understand is the point of including an object you can click on if all Clem is going to do with it is walk over, stare at it a bit close up, then say and do nothing with it. She does this with several objects in both episodes. Does Telltale think we're clicking because we really, really want to get a look at that completely irrelevant and useless object close up?

  • Maybe we better not wait around to find out.

  • She commented on things at the ski lodge too. Like the Christmas tree, radio, duck thing, etc. Some of the things in Matthew's shack as well.

  • I think some of it is just intended to keep us guessing or as minor clues what's to come next.
It's similar to having a character say they will remember that, but they die minutes later. Like when Lee was talking to Shawn at the farm, Lee can say something like, " sometimes it's kill or be killed" Shawn will remember that! We're meant to think, ohoh Shawn may not trust Lee now or whatever.. But a few mins later he's dead. Some things we find just may or may not matter but we have no way to know at the time.

Finding the picture of Lee and his family at the pharmacy was required to keep the story going, where the couple of comments about how Clem looked like the girl on the can of peaches meant nothing in S2E2. Could that matter at all in E3? possibly..

I like these sort's of thing's because I think it add's a bit or realism. We would all search a shed or house and maybe find things that seem meaningless at first.

Maybe Clem is just less inclinced to talk to herself than say Lee or Guybrush Threepwood. ^^

What actually DID make me wonder was the can of peaches WowMutt above me is talking about. I found it somewhat weird that both Alvin and Matthew said the exact samething. And btw. She doesn't say anything to that, no, BUT her facialexpression certainly does. Which is hilarious.

I think instead of talking about these small things that actually add something (even if just a little), we should talk about the fact that credits roll everytime you're done with an episode. That irks me so much. And there should be a "play all episodes" (goes for TWAU as well), so you don't have to watch "previously on XX" / "Next time on XX" / CREDITS.

I wonder if someone will ever overhear Clementine examining something and talking to herself and ask "What are you even talking about?". That would be a nice addition to the game.

  • I remember Eddie called Wyatt out for that in 400 Days.

"Who are you talking to right now?"

    "...you?"

I think she did record some expressions like "hmm pointy" as i heard Melissa mention it in a interview. I guess they decided not to use them.

  • IT'S HILARIOUS!

    "Hmmm, pointy."

Plus you can learn about something if you don't know what is it or what it does.

  • That's a good thing, IMO. The way Lee interacted with things like "Door's locked!", or "The officer's shotgun is over there" when it's ridiculously obvious made me facepalm so hard that my forehead couldn't take it.
