Is NATE a Save Lots bandit?
I'm thinking this could be the group Nate was with during Wyatts story, here are some clues:
1.Eddie reckoned that Nate and his group were going to rob and kill him and Wyatt.
2.Wyatts story is 41 days in, roughly just before the time of S1E2 when the bandits first appear.
3.The bandits are described by Jolene as rapists and Nate is obsessed with women in a creepy way.
4.He jokes to Russell saying "How are you not in some hillbilly's freezer already?", he could be referring to the St Johns as hillbilly cannibals as the bandits did know about the St Johns secret. I think.
5.The old man that Nate kills says to him "Think you can just leave your mask at home?", we know that the bandits wear masks and when Russell asks Nate if he's been here before Nate tells him to shut up or something along those lines, he refuses to give an answer.
6.In the slide for episode 4 the shadow stood right behind Clem to the right was revealed to be someone with a mask on as the picture was brightened. This could be Nate with his mask on.
7.The music played when Nate and Russell attack the gas station is the exact same as when the bandits attack the Motor Inn. I think it's the only 2 times that particular music is ever played.

that make sense mate but i dunno why he say to rusell he hate stealing ?
Nice theory bro it makes sense.
Nice theory, but even if he is/was a bandit, what do we get from that :P
Probably just trying to come across as moral or letting Russell know that he shouldn't be messed with.
He probably isn't and he didn't attack the old couple either, that were some other guys.
Here you go.
He could be a bandit, it's a logical explanation.
That's a really good theory. It could be interesting if Kenny realized it since Save Lots bandits caused Katjaa's and Duck's deaths.
Cool theory! (people come up with smart shit when we are enduring a looooooooooooooooooong wait)
So it reuses some dead models for some of the shadows, that confirms Doug but I'm not sure about the bandit.
They are just place holders for new characters I think.
Maybe , by the sounds of it the bandits had been there for a long time according to the St Johns.
Also it seems like Eddie caused Nate to go nuts killing whoever was with him.
This is a great theory, and I actually thought this as well. I doubt it was the writer's original intention in S1, but it would be a good retcon.
Does anyone know the distance of St. John's Dairy/bandit camp to Gil's Pitstop? Are they close enough for it to make sense that Nate was traveling between them?
Timeline-wise, I think Wyatt's story happened before the bandit's appearance in S1, and Russell's story happened after. Eddie could have shot one of Nate's fellow bandits, Nate went back to his group (maybe he offered the dying cop to the St. John's?), and all the bandit stuff in S1 happened. After the incident at the Motor Inn, the bandits most likely disbanded, so Nate was probably on his own. Then comes Russell. It all fits together well and supports your theory.
Convincing argument with plenty of supporting evidence. This is totally believable, well done!
But I thought I killed all the bandits with my infinite ammo rifle?
Im not sure but I think that gils pit stop is on a highway, maybe just off the same road where carleys dead body is, so yeah it could be close to where the bandits live near the motor inn. You make a good point about the bandits being disbanded leaving nate on his own after they attacked the motor inn. We dont hear anything else of what happens to the bandits after that.
This theory is very good!
Thankyou.
no its not you see Doug die whether you save him from the dead or not
I can't say I agree with this. Nate doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would take orders or blend well with a large group. He's the kind of person who would just have fun with his friends when the world goes to hell, which he was doing until Eddie shot his buddy. Plus, if Nate really had been to Gil's before, with a mask, he would have known that the old couple was there and armed. He was taken by complete surprise when the sniper started shooting, and he never would have pulled his truck up in such an exposed area at all if he had known. Nate may be a tad crazy, but he's not stupid.
Well I hope we find out.
What are you talking about? I was saying Nate could be a Saves-Lot bandit.
He's somewhat of a hypocrite; tells Russ he hates stealing yet steals from people himself, then he also tells Russ to get some manners yet he doesn't have any himself.
Nate's a chaotic evil kind of guy, and I'm pretty sure he'd be okay in a group as long as they gave him a long leash, and from what we've seen of the Save-Lots Bandits, they didn't really have any rules anyway. Nate's kind of people.
Ha, I really support this theory. As soon as I saw what Nate was really like, I immediately thought he was a bandit. It makes sense as well, especially in areas where what he did didn't make much sense, like the fact that you see Nate, "putting down," the cop guy in the credits.
My thoughts are: why would he waste a bullet and put that guy out of his misery? I mean, he doesn't waste time putting down people that aren't a major threat to him or haven't given him an incentive to do so from we've seen in 400 days; he wanted to keep moving and patronised Russ after he wanted to quickly put down the walker with a screwdriver in it's eye, which would of been the wise thing to do considering it was still a threat. Why would Nate bother putting down an unknown man, especially if he'd need to waste a bullet and risk his life going out in walker-infested forestry and fog to do it? It makes much more sense that he'd take those risks to get the dying cop's body to trade with the St Johns, like what's been said above. Even if he wasn't a bandit, he definitely knows more about some of the messed up shit out there than he lets on; that one little line about the hillbilly's freezer's got me convinced he's at least seen Larry's crushed head at the very least when it comes to whether or not he's affiliated with the St Johns.
Also, I find it hard to believe that Nate doesn't at least have a home base with some other people in it. I mean, he was travelling totally alone with nothing to eat and no water to drink; he can't be just magically finding food every stop he gets at, it would be too unbelievable and convenient. It's unlikely he'd be alone or at least a continuous traveller; he's rooted somewhere near Macon and Gil's pitstop, probably since it's a prime spot to harass and loot travelling survivors.
Oh yeah I forgot about that picture of Nate and the cop, I wonder if that means much and whether it will have any influence on the story in S2.
If Wyatt stays in the car there is an alternate picture in the credits where it shows Eddie carrying the cop but Nate is stood there waiting for him by his truck.
lol he thought you were talking about Doug.
I'll grant you that, but Nate just seems a bit too unstable and crazy to be part of a large group. I think he'd love tearing up the apocalypse with two or three close friends, but that's about as far as it'd go with him, so long as they were at his same level of whacko.
