The Walking Dead: International
If I am correct, The Walking Dead has only taken place on the eastern coast of the US. This is great and all considering I live on the east coast and I can relate to the environment. I have a feeling that we will eventually run into repeat scenarios with repeat character traits. The best way I see to combat this and to keep the franchise going is to show the audience what is happening in other parts of the world. The zombie apocalypse is happening world wide and seeing how other countries and cultures around the world would be an interesting twist in the story telling. They should start back at the beginning of the outbreak. I was a military brat growing up (NAVY!!!), so this would be my dream scenario. It would help transition the zombie outbreak from the US to another part of the world.
You start out with either a military member or a family at the base in Georgia, USA. On the day of the outbreak, you are preparing for your plane trip to a US military base over in Europe (probably Italy more than Germany). Your flight takes off just as the zombie outbreak is occurring. You make it to your plane and you make it out just as panic, pandemonium, and chaos fill the air base. On the long flight over, you notice that communication with air traffic controllers stops. As you make it to the country you are headed to you can see from above that everything is in shambles. Fires exist throughout the town near the military base and you can tell that people are running away. As you land at the base, your colleagues fill you in on what is happening and assure you that you are safe on the base. In a matter of a couple of weeks, food quickly becomes low and fear consumes the minds of the survivors on base. Chaos soon takes over and the walkers begin to invade the base. Now you and others from the base must survive the zombie apocalypse in an unfamiliar land with unfamiliar people and, of course, zombies.
This can help show how other people in the world are reacting the outbreak and could also provide a backstory to how the zombie apocalypse spread. Maybe the zombie outbreak only occurred in the US for the first couple of days. The rest of the world could have first thought it was just a US thing until their own people started turning. This can bring added tension between people originating from the US and people of other countries. There could have been a mass exodus out of the US but governments and people from other nations turned US people away, citing them as the blame for the zombie apocalypse. This also fit in with my dream scenario. Tell me what you think about my theory or if you have any The Walking Dead: International theories of your own. I truly believe this would be a great story shift when the Clementine story arc closes. I'm not saying she'll die, just we'll have to find some sort of closure to her story so we can move on to more perspectives of the zombie apocalypse (she's a big girl, she can handle herself).
PS: Congrats if you actually read all of this!

I was a military child, as well, Air Force, Port Dawgs. I think there is some form of carriers in the Walking Dead, just like many other diseases. They may not show symptoms at first, but they can spread it. I think a good ways to approach this would be to focus on several different factions and how they try to handle the zombie apocalypse, such as the UN would deploy Riot Teams and try escorting survivors to safety, while the United State's military forces would probably send in Strike Teams and mass bombardments to clear out infestations and herds. I think a couple cool ways to go would be US forces in Okinawa, or at a UN Embassy in Turkey, both would be pretty interesting, in my opinion.
Shoot, I got to live in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from 1997 to 2000. Considering that G'TMO back then was basically surrounded by a mine field and open waters, I would say that this would also be an interesting setting. Imagining having to work with Castro and his men to survive on that island.
Heh, I just got out of a lecture about the UN. Couldn't help but giggle at the idea of UN peacekeepers responding to an outbreak.
"Attention dead people! We know you're angry, but this town is now a UN safe area! Stay back or we'll...uh, let's see...according to the chapter 8 of UN Security Council Resolution #1003 and the official UN sanctioned rules of engagement handbook... Fucking hell, why can't we just shoot them?!"
I think that countries like mine (only 8 million people) would have a better chance of maintaining the apocalypse, because we won't have a shit ton of walkers at every corner like in the USA.
Zombies don't care about borders.
I wouldn't like it if the characters were from the Army. I mean, they are experienced and toughened. I like characters like Carol in the TV show. She was a weak character. Then you saw her evolve from the weak woman to a strong woman.
I'm pretty sure it was said that we would NEVER see the initial outbreak.
Also I'm pretty sure the spin-off of the TV series was said to take place in "another part of the world"
I meant that there'll be fewer walkers to kill here because the population is small.
And now that you mention it, because of the rivalry between my country and most of my surrounding country, we have a big fence between countries, so that can help.
Well, in a situation like this, they would really step up. I've spent a good amount of my time in consulates and embassies, and people don't exactly give them credit for all the stuff they do.
They are quite bound by rules, but I don't believe there is anything in the UNSC Engagement handbook talking about killing the undead
Ha! Everyone is screwed, but me! Island life!
Not everyone in the military is a strong, tough, killing machine. It certainly helps, but most I know are pretty normal.
Vietnam. One day it started raining, and it didn't quit for four months. We've been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stinging rain...and big old fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath. Shoot, it even rained at night. I got to see a lot of countryside. We would take these real long walks. And we were always lookin' for this guy named Walker.
Damn you, Forest Gump!
Good point.
Don't get me wrong, you need nerves of steel to be a peacekeeper. The problem is, the blue berets are soooo undermanned and under-equipped that they would have difficulty making much of an impact. Also, their M.O. Is to protect civilians, which could easily cause then to drop their guard and get chomped.
Also, I'm curious... i thought that diplomatic posts were usually guarded by security forces or a small detachment of Marines. Either way those guys definitely don't screw around!
