Walking Dead - Season Three Protagonist

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

Hold your horses! I know that it is a bit too early to be speaking about 'Season Three' and such but I've seen countless topics of people wanting characters such as Kenny or Sarah to be the new protagonist or Clementine to remain the same.

Whilst I'm not entirely against these ideas, I would like to just showcase an idea to the community here just to see what you think and maybe if people support it and Telltale like it they could implement it into 'Season Three' if they are even going to make it.

So, here's my idea. The new character could be 'Ben Paul's friend'.

Now keep a hold of your horses again! I know, this may seem odd or dumb or even lame to some of you but please just hear me out (God, I'm starting to sound like Tavia).

The first episode of 'Season Three' could start off as a normal school day in the pre-apocalypse. Where we see our protagonist interact with class-mates (including Jenny Pitcher) and eventually Ben Paul. Only for Ben to act strangely and repeat the protagonists name until they wake up in a camp.

Ben is waking them up by calling their name and they go around the camp talking to class-mates including Travis and their band-teacher David Parker. David Parker wants you to go and help them search the area to scavenge supplies.

The protagonist (Let's just call him James) and David both find a small cottage which seems to be abandoned. James searches the cottage and finds a knife. As he searches the kitchen, David searches upstairs only to be attacked by a walker.

James is terrified but with great difficulty manages to kill it. David thanks James and tells him to just take whatever food is left in the kitchen and leave. As they come back to the camp, and share out the food the camp is raided by bandits.

In the confusion James gets separated from the group who flee for their own safety and James is left behind. He walks through the forest only to find the same cottage again but this time candles are clearly lit.

James knocks on the door to find a grieving boy around his age, the boy agrees to let James in as he reveals that he lived here with his mother who he was looking after since she was sick after she was bitten by a walker. He cries as he reveals that he found her dead as a walker and his knife gone. At this point James reveals he was the one who killed his mother as he found her as a walker and gives back the boy his knife.

The boy is bitter but agrees to let James say thinking it'd be too harsh to leave him behind and it's not what his mother would want. James is led to the spare bedroom and thanks the boy for letting him stay.

The episode ends with James falling asleep.

Eventually of course James and the boy will meet a group who don't seem to trust them as they don't look like they could "pull their weight" and the players choices affect who lives, dies, trusts them or even betrays them or berate them in this new group.

Unlike 'Season One' where Lee was already pretty tough and managed to kill a handful of walkers in the first season, whilst Clem in 'Season Two' accomplishes near enough the same in the first couple of episodes thus far.

This will put the players in the shoes of a coward (much like Ben Paul) and have them turn into a hardened survivor. It's not about turning the deuteragonist (Clementine in Season One) into a tough survivor it's about you becoming one.

I don't know about this but what do you guys think? Do you have your own idea for a protagonist?
