Most Perplexing Character?

So, everyone seems to have done something very similar. But, I'm strictly talking characters who are the most complex or compelling. You don't have to like the person, but I'd be nice to see regardless. Mine would have to be a tie between Carver and Luke.

Carver strikes me as a more complex character than most ZA antagonists. And well, Luke is just a mystery. They're both very charismatic and seem to know how to control a situation. So, naturally, my Clem is stirring both of them with a long handed spoon.

  • Probably the cop driving lee to prison. WHY COULDNT HE PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD

  • Maybelle, she's just- I don't know! Even describing her is complex!

  • In all seriousness: Kenny and Nick I find are very complex.

  • Molly, Nate, Kenny and Alvin, they all seem to have dark pasts (except Kenny), and they're a mystery to me.

  • He was getting lost in his stor- nay, his contemplation of events he never finished describing.

  • Ben, Kenny, and Nick are all very complex. My favorites of the whole series.

  • Kenny, Lilly, Nick, Rebecca, Carver.

I want to write up an analysis report of them all now xD

  • Luke, I'm perplexed by where the feck he disappeared to. Carver seems like he's running some sort of perhaps cultish community, interesting to see how that plays out, as well as what he intends with Clementine, based on the preview. Is it one of those things like with the Governor, where there's a public face, but he's a psycho beyond the walls (and in his sanctum sanctorium)? Alvin, what with the hinting at the murder of his old buddy George? Rebecca, with the baby daddy drama? Carver seems to think the baby is his. Or was that why Alvin killed George? WTF is up with Sarah? Panic attacks and few lines? And how about Carlos? A doctor with an overbearing papa wolf complex? That's probably going to turn out well. And Kenny. Hoo boy, Kenny. How unhinged are you, mang? Need to tighten up those loose screws. I'm also interested to see how the other survivor communities in general have developed, will there be any domineering Saints style ones, or maybe some other banditry driven kind?

  • Vernon confuses the hell out of me. The people around him paint him as this extremely conniving, selfish character, but he helped Lee get out of the sewers and treat Omid without any incentive other than "Oh, you're trying to get back to your daughter." He didn't know about the boat or anything like that at the time, so it was pretty much motivated purely by altruism.

But then as soon as he saw the boat he apparently thought "Welp, fuck everybody else. I'm taking that." Even going as far as not telling anyone about the huge hoard of zombies headed their way. I mean, what the fuck, man?

Only explanation: Vernon is part of Kenny's boat cult.

  • Did you play 400 days? In Shel & Becca's story, their group is roughly half composed of the cancer survivors from Vernon's group. And one of them, I believe Joy, mentions that Vernon was after a boat the whole time. So I'm guessing he was hoping to find a boat as a way to get away from Crawford for a while, and saw Lee and his group as a perfect victim, or on the other determinant hand, a deserving target.

Oh, Kenny's boat cult. Probably that.

  • I know, but he couldn't have known that he'd be able to exploit Lee's group when he agreed to help him navigate his way out of the sewers and help Omid. So the only reason he had for doing so was that he honestly did want to help them. For him to go from that to a scheming asshole who'd leave a bunch of people including a child to die just to get his group from an already fairly secure place to a potentially more secure place just seems, well, perplexing.

  • I think the most perplexing character is the main one we are all playing, Clementine.
With the ancillary characters, you can usually tell what their reactions are going to be. With Clementine though you can never tell.
Someone called her a 'puzzle' in the last season. Katjaa I think, and there was never a truer word spoken.

  • I agree. However, it's your own choices that motivate her actions. I'm speaking strictly from an unknown perspective.

  • Maybe he just took a gamble, out of desperation. They were pretty worried Crawford would find them, even thinking Lee was a scout from Crawford at first. I mean, sometimes you just get lucky, and Vernon just happened to find what he was looking for, and sent someone to watch Lee's group's house till enough left that they felt confident in overpowering whoever remained. I think that is the best explanation to be had. Apart from.... it was written that way. shrug

  • From S1/400 Days, I'd say.. Nate. I hate the guy, but he's a very interestingly characterized antagonist and a complete wildcard. You just don't know how he's going to react or what he'll do. He might be looking out for you one minute, and putting you in danger the next. He's a misogynistic, racist sleazebag, but incredibly charismatic. Nate is totally unhinged at only around 3 months into the ZA. Makes me wonder if he's always been that way and the circumstances gave him an incentive to act in his true manner, or he's seen some shit.

From S2, Carver. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of his backstory and motivations — he's definitely ruthless and determined, but is he a blood-thirsty psychopath who kills for the sake of it, or is he doing the things he does because he thinks it's justified? And what exactly is his deal with the cabin group and Rebecca? What made them leave? He's shown to be quite intelligent and perceptive, I have a feeling that taking him down won't be easy. His community is in a giant mall, most likely fortified, and he has AK-47's and probably a supply of other weapons too, and is willing to track down people who have wronged him. Anyone who wants to challenge him has the odds against them.

  • Mark. I started an episode then I got to the next one and I said, "Who dafuq is this?"

  • Yes, Carver almost strikes me as a very cool calculated version of Joel. But, we'll have to see.
