A question you may find silly, but it's important to me

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
I was thinking a lot should I ask this question or not, but it was killing me for few days.

When I was playing Episode 2 in my main playthrough, I was in chapter ''In The Dark'' where you need to talk to Walter about Nick's sin. I clicked ''He's like everyone else'' because I misunderstood it. I thought something else at the time, I couldn't really think properly because of the intense atmosphere (which is really good, I fucking love it). So, the next day, I rewinded this chapter to save Nick....and here's my question to you guys.

Is it okay if I rewinded the episode to save Nick because of my misunderstanding? I know I kind of cheated, but...I just wanna find out, I wanna have a little shrift here.

It's silly question, I know, but I needed to ask it.

  • Pfft, it's more than ok! I also had to rewind once but it was in TWAU because I understood what "Glass him" meant XD

No, I don't think so. If you misunderstood then it's okay to rewind episode. Otherwise I think it would be not fair beucase this game is about our choices and in real life you can't just change the past.
  • Whew. So it's ok when I misunderstood it. Thank God, my conscience was really biting me for it.

    Thangs!

  • Honestly I try to wait as long as possible before replying. You get to hear way more out of people, just clicking straight away leads to instant regret
  • i don't ever rewind because of my choices effect the futur in a bad way.

although if i dont understand something i rewind. i dont think its cheating, you just didnt know what was going on.this happened to me like twice to i went back a little. i dont think its cheating.
  • Haha, yeah, I know something about it...I gave water to Victor and then I had none to give Pete. :D

I always have my second save file where Nick is dead.

  • But in real life he would't "misunderstand" his mind.

  • No problem. Hey! I also rewind episode 2 like... 2 times because I just chose wrong dialogue or decision. I mean, i chose not what I wanted to say or do as Clementine.

    I did something similar.

When you had to choose between Nick and Pete, I chose Nick, but only because I thought Pete was Nick's father and I respected him and knew that he would want me to save "his son". But then I realized he's only Nick's uncle so I rewinded and saved Pete because I like him more than Nick.
  • Of course not but in real life you don't have buttons with dialogues in front of your face. :D

  • Yeah, in real life, you just slaughtered Nick. Nice job. Just joking, I think it's okay that you rewind back, I rewinded back to kick the crap out of Molly before she hit me in Episode 4.

  • I know, I know. But trust me, I would tell Walter that Nick is a good guy in real life. Just, I thought ''He's like everyone else'' meant something else because I didn't pay attention to Walter's words: ''Or he's like everyone else, like those fuckers who don't give a shit about anything but themselves?!''

  • There's nothing wrong in playing a "little time travel". And besides, you misunderstood it, it's a reasonable explanation.

That's just fine, misunderstanding is a perfectly fine reason to go back and fix your choices. I did just that quite a lot in A Crooked Mile, don't ask me why, my excitement made me just generally stupid :P.
  • Even if you hadn't misunderstood, *it's okay to rewind*. Play the game how you want to play it; don't let other people bring you down because you're not playing it "the right way."
  • Go for it, the dialogue options can be vague, just keep everything else the same for integrity :D

Just to warn you, your previous choices "might" change automatically!

Yes, that happened to me back in season 1, After I finished the game and got the very final results about how i treated the different characters throughout the game (for example I was very nice to Kenny and I dropped Ben from the bell tower) I was satisfied with the results. But after two days I got the feeling that Lee maybe wasn't bitten and his face color changed due to the blood loss from his arm. So I started the game and created a copy of my main playthrough just to replay the last episode and try to not cut Lee's arm, and when I finished the episode and got the final results I was surprised that my previous choices were completely changed! For example it says that (I didn't drop Ben and I treated Kenny badly throughout the game, All the choices were chosen randomly for some reason??!! ). So I immediately deleted this "copy" I made and went back to my main walkthrough. I play TWD on my Xbox 360.

So I recommend that you create a copy of your main playthrough (just in case)!
  • Your just rewinding it nothing bad on that
  • I rewinded once at the end of S1E1 when you have to pick between Doug & Carley. I wanted to pick Carley, but I didn't know you had to click on the bag to give her ammunition. So, I picked Doug before the timer ran out & rewinded to pick Carley. :P In a situation like mine & yours where there's a misunderstanding I don't think doing a rewind is a big deal. But, rewinding to alter things after you know the outcome is wrong IMO. You should live with the decisions you've made in your initial play-through. That's how I feel, anyway.
  • Hmm. You're probably right, I'll take care of that

  • I had the same problem too actually, haha. When the option said "like everyone else" without thinking I thought it meant like everyone else in the group and I didn't know it would cause Nick's death and it pretty much shocked me out of my skin because, damn! ONE SINGLE dialogue option not even in the same scene decided it. It's kinda scary to think things like this could happen later...
  • I rewound twice on account of not understanding dialogue options, hahaha, so I think it's fine (and I'm usually a stickler for not rewinding in my main save file.)

First time I had to go back because I chose "I knew someone like you once" when I was talking to Nick, thinking it would mean that I knew Kenny when he had given up on life too. Imagine my shock when instead Clem says so hatefully "I knew someone like you... he was always screwing up too." Just -- aaaughh!!! I did not expect that. And since I'm trying to keep Nick on my good side, I went back immediately. :P

Another time was when I accidentally lied about opening the door for Carver, because I misclicked really fast. Then Sarah did the whole "... but I thought you DID open the door" thing and I felt guilty and I went back and told the truth.

I think it's important to keep Clem true to however you believe her character should be, in this case for me someone honest and not spiteful (or at least not spiteful on purpose.) :P If that means rewinding when you misunderstand a dialogue option then so be it. As far as actual decisions go, I don't think rewinding on your 'main' save file is a good idea; I at least choose to keep all of my original choices because to change them feels cheap somehow.
  • I don't see the harm in it.
  • I have to agree! I have the same thing happened with Alvin, (nick I managed to save it: D) by choosing "NO CARVER!" ... I think that cause the death of a character through a simple dialogue is wrong, but I also think that rewind is even more wrong (I've rewound the episode 4 twice: in order not to feel bad clem in a dialogue and the other to convincing kenny save clementine, since Having taken care of his family, it seemed silly not to take it with lee ...

Rewind is ok, if you have a clear coscience! XD

I had the same problem too actually, haha. When the option said "like everyone else" without thinking I thought it meant like everyone else

  • It's not bad at all. My brother and I do that all of the time in the game :P

    YOU ARE A DISGRACE!

How dare you cheat by rewinding the chapter, I therefore BANISH you from this community and you are NOT aloud to play this game ever again.

You don't get to rewind events that happen in real life and that's exactly what we want this game to be like, so because of your stupidity you have ruined everything that is unique about this game and it affects everyone else who plays it too!

I think I'm going to be sick!
  • I understand that you're being sarcastic, but I just wanted to say that I don't feel this way at all towards people who rewind. The player can play the game however they see fit. People shouldn't be belittled for wanting to rewind or not wanting to. It should be completely up to each individual. :)

  • Don't do it. You fucked up. Live with it.
  • Its not bad if you did it by accident. Some people just don't like the outcome of their choices and change it, which is cheating, but you thought it meant is Nick citizen of the year or is he like all the other members of the group. I guess just be careful with dialogue from now on lol.
  • I think misunderstanding it is the same as not liking it.

  • Not at all, however it's way different then if say you surrendered because you thought Carver was gonna kill Carlos then change it (like I did)
  • Oh yeah man it's cool. But i've never rewinded on my main playthrough just because i wanted everything that happened in a episode was me thinking on my feet instead of rewindin. But if i misunderstood something that came back to bite me in the ass i would've rewinded too dude.
  • It actually kind of bothers me when watching other people play, and they click on dialogue options as soon as they pop up, without letting the timer go near the end.

They miss out on so much dialogue by cutting the other people off. :/

I think you could give some to Rebecca after crossing the bridge, if you gave it to neither Victor or Pete.

I wonder when that water will come in hand if you didn't give it to victor OR pete?
