Episodic nature of Telltale Games.

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
I talked about this with my friends a lot and I don't know if someone ever create a thread about this here so I figure that I would do that because this is a topic worth of discussion. In my opinion of course. Anyway... I want you guys to discuss about episodic nature of video games from Telltale. To be specific - do you like it and why? If you don't then still - why?

Personally I don't know what to think about this. I really like the way they are working on their games but in the same time I kind of hate that we have to wait so much time for the next episodes. Still, I think it's worth it.

What about you guys? Do you feel the same or do you think that Telltale should release all of their episodes in the same time?

Comments

  • To be honest, I don' t really care. They have always been doing episodic games and I have enough patience to deal with it.
  • I like it because the wait actually gives me time to attach myself to the characters and such.
  • While I do hate the waiting times, I think the episodic format is a good one. It gives time between each episode for you to replay and reconsider your actions, and to grow more attached to the characters and relationships in the game. Now do I wish the waits were shorter? Definitely. Probably a 2-3 week wait would be best in my opinion, instead of the sometimes crazy long waiting periods we have to sit through. I think, however, that releasing all of the episodes at once would be a bad choice and would kind of take away a lot of what makes the game so captivating.

Either way though, I respect Telltale and I do understand that sometimes it's not their fault when an episode gets delayed. :)

I think they should release the episode all at one time. I don't like how they drag it out like this. They have me refreshing twitter just for a screenshot.
  • The long waits can be agonizing, especially since the quality of each episode is so good. We are all just eager to see what happens next! Luckily, I have other things that I do, watch, play etc. so I tend not to get too impatient if the length between the episodes isn't too long. I did the first season all in one go, but some bits were already spoiled for me :(
  • I'm with you on this one. :)

  • Same here. I really like their episodes but they could release them often. Like every month but it's just a dream though.

  • Yeah, some of my friends would agree with you. I wouldn't but this dosen't mean that you or I have to change our mind.

  • Actually, prior to the introduction of tailored choice gameplay in Walking Dead Season 1, Telltale was really good about getting episodes out each month. I think that the longer waiting period for Episodes is new because Telltale has to write larger scripts for each episode to account for player choices.

  • Don't forget about the fact that they are making The Wolf Among Us at the same time as The Walking Dead Season Two. With season one there were no other games, only The Walking Dead.

  • I don't like the waiting, it just means I forget about what happened in the previous episode and I just don't get as invested in the story.
