Telltale Walking Dead better than TV Show?

In my opinion, The Walking Dead Game by Telltale Games has surpassed the TV show, even though the show's based more closely on Robert Kirkmans' original graphic novel. I think this mainly because the shows' quality's been on the decline lately (just my opinion, obviously). I mean, the second season of the show was phenomenal, just brilliant, but since then it's been more uneven. On the other hand, Telltales' version of the Walking Dead continues to surprise, impress, and traumatize me nearly every episode. And honestly, no moment in the show has ever had me as devastated as much as Carleys' death did. The game feels more real, is better written, more interesting, and is obviously more interactive, and all this makes it into a media experience that I enjoy more, even when it leaves me feeling sad and numb. What are y'alls' thoughts on this?

  • I don't think the creators of the tv show should get any credit. Anything that they've made that wasn't purely based off an event in the comics failed. The game is great and needs to have more credit. I hope AMC fucks off soon enough, season two of the show was horrible and everything else that happened was very cliche.
  • I don't like the show.
  • I'm not really into picking a favorite between different adaptations of the same franchise.

I like them all in equal measure. I will say the game is what got me hooked into TWD universe, though. So I guess that counts for something.
  • Yes.

Not that I dislike the show, but the game long surpassed it.
  • The game is a thousand times better than the show! But I still like the show :)

I don't know. For now I like both game and TV show but... I think that I like TWDG even more then a show.
  • I like the show but the game is far more interesting imo.
  • I like the game better because you have an easier time to invest yourself into the role of the main character and it genuinely feels like it is You who personally know these characters and when they die, you genuinely feel sorrow and disbelief because they are truly dead, they are gone and you'll never see them again (Unless they approached you as a walker). You feel tension, because you don't know what's going to happen and you feel none of the characters are safe. It really feels like that you are in a zombie Apocalypse where the danger is real. Danger from walkers and humans.

Not that the show is bad. It has its merits and strong moments. Also I feel like Season 4 is heading toward the right direction.
  • The game and the comics are the best for me.I'm not saying the show is bad,I'm saying that it isn't as good as I wanted it to be.No offense, but the acting in the show is kinda bad
  • I feel kind of awful for saying this but Carl's acting in any of the seasons is honestly better than Beth's acting. Don't hate me...

  • Watched the show first and I think the game is better, don't read the comics though.

I like both but the game is now my favorit. I am even recording my gameplays and watching it on the tv like an tv show because my girlfriend don't like videogames. Now she is a fan of the gamestory, too
  • I'll be honest.

    TTG>AMC.

I think the game as never seen a character as good as Clem or Lee only Rick and the governor are close

    Company

Telltale: small company with a lot of passion for games focusing more on story then anything with very ambitious staff who worked so hard to challenge the biggest game companies with such low budgets how they created games of such quality is simply mindblowing

AMC would sell their soul to the devil for a dollar and think they did to get survival instinct released. I remember AMC stated before they wanted the zombies to be heard and not seen in TWD to save more money bunch of gangsters

    Story

    Twd s1 Best of all

S2 vs Twd tv show draw Carlos doctor, Bite on one side of arm, I just got lucky? etc

  • watch bits of the show, the game is the best
  • No it's not, they're both better than the god awful comics though.
  • I like both, however to judge them entirely wouldn't be fair. The game is able to do a lot more than they can on the show, for multiple reasons. Being the fact of what's allowed on TV, all the way through budget costs and filming locations. The game is more interesting, sure, but it's also able to have whatever story TTG wants to throw at it, while the show is within many guidelines.
  • "The show could go on for another 10 years",remember"? :(

  • I agree in the game there is tension and no one is safe but on the show you know without a doubt none of the main characters will die . No matter what their up against everything works in their favor. They are the only ones who can shoot straight while the other guys couldn't hit the side of a barn

  • You Mostly right but there are scene's in the show that rick's group miss like when the governor attacts the prison with to other people
In season 3 Rick had a clear shot at Martinez and some how missed a easy shot is just one of a few times Rick's group bad aim

I think most of the comments against the show are harsh, It is alot harder to make a show than a game.
The show has 16 episode's and each episode 45 minute's each why the game only has 5 episode's a season that are only 1.30 mins long.
And I not going to start about Directing it and TV rules they have to follow
You can Dislike my comment but the truth hurts
  • LOL yes, the game is much better than the TV show in the opinions of nearly everyone who is a fan of both. Though from what I hear, the comics are quite good, so that'd be a better comparison.
  • Love the game and the comics equally.

Show? What show? I know of no show, and surely if there was a show it wouldn't be a wretched abomination. (AMC pls)
  • game is a million times better. but I still like the show.
  • Yeah, just like the wolf among us is better than the fables comics and game of thrones will be better than the tv series.
  • Yes finally sombody who know's what their talking about

  • That's not true, where's the proof that nearly everyone who likes both the show and game prefer the game? And I hope you'r proof is this site as this is a Telltales fanbase website so it be biased

I seen other walking dead website's that have these discutions and seen the show win more than once against the game

  • I love both, I just think the game is so much better.
  • The show to me is dying, and my interest has dwindled. The game keeps me hooked and exciting for each episode. I will say the game is my favorite over the show.
  • That's because those sites are The Walking Dead sites, which focus around the most popular version of TWD, the show. You look on this site, right here, where everyone loves the show, the game and the comics, and nearly everyone puts the show at the bottom of the list hands down.

If you went on a Justin Beiber site and asked who's a better musician and a better person, Justin Beiber or Beethoven, who do you think they would all choose?

Clem is the coolest fiction child of all time, I fucking hate Carl (in the show)...he can't just stay in the house. Dale would still be alive.

    Clem > Carl

  • Telltale Games' Walking Dead is much better than AMCs.
  • yes. tv show season one almost flawless. season too good too much time on the farm. season three good, good first halg high paced second half was all over the place and made no sense( some good episodes like Clear, bt they fucked it up ruining the Andrea character and having a shitty finale) season four was on the pace of being its best season but they messed it up again in the 2nd half. although I loved the character development and the great moment that were from the comic( the crazy kid, the whole scene with the bikers and rick eating his throat.) but too much time wasted and they completely forgot about the super flu or whatever. the game has been the best at every turn, still I cry when I hear walking dead game music Lee Everett is my hero.
  • The show could've been better but they fucked that up horribly. The game is awesome because it keeps a steady pace throughout most of the game, where in the tv show its like 9 filler episodes then 1 episodes that actually has something happen.
