How many people (Let's Players or otherwise) got the infamous Kenny bro speech?

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
So this is kind of an odd question, but I'm using it to kind of gauge just how common it was for someone to get the Kenny bro speech on their first playthrough of the game (and also to be able to analyze what choices need to be made in order to get it)--

Do you know of any Let's Players on YouTube who got the Kenny bro speech in episode 4 of season 1? Alternatively, did any of you get it on your first playthrough?

I actually did get the speech on my very first playthrough, although I did side with Kenny on basically everything. My best friend got it on her first playthrough, too, but she did almost exactly the same thing as I did (she played a very ruthless game, not just a Kenny-is-my-best-friend game, but still her choices happened to coincide with what Kenny wanted so it was fine.)

I know of only one Let's Player who's gotten the speech though, which is odd because I've watched probably 10-15 different Let's Plays. MangaMinx got the bro speech and that's it. I haven't seen anyone else get it.

Sorry this is kind of a pointless question, but it's relevant to me and what I'm trying to deduce.

I didn't get it on my first playthrough o: I got the "been there for his family" speech, now I really liked Kenny but there were some things he wanted my Lee to do that didn't seem right xD; (aka: dropping Ben, killing Larry, leaving Lilly behind, or shooting that girl at the drugstore) which are big reasons as to why I couldn't get that speech :c apparently its been said you can do 1 or 2 things that Kenny doesn't like but after that you're no longer his bro xD
  • Thegirlfromaus (Let's player) did, and I did on my first playthrough. He was there for me, so I was there for him.

In my opinion, all this decisions you mentioned (dropping Ben, " killing " Larry, leaving Lilly behind, shoting the girl at the drugstore) were the right decisions and that's why i was always on Kenny's side. Kenny was my Bro to the biter end and i wanted him to take care of Clementine! (So yes, he gave me the infamous Bro speech!:)

But everyone has his own opinion, many people think like the way you do.

    Yea awhile after I played it I kinda realized that in the apocalypse you don't have the luxury of self morals :c I'm generally nice irl and very forgiving so I wanted to put that into my choices in the game xD if the world would come to be an apocalypse I'd probably have a hard time adjusting to it ^^;

  • I got the bro speech on my first playthrough as well. I ended up making the more pragmatic choices because I thought they were best, not because I wanted Kenny to like me. I DID disagree with him about the food (I didn't take it) and the girl in the street (I shot her), but that was pretty much it.
  • Damo2986, a Youtuber I watch, got it.
  • Had problems with my save file on my first play through during E4. Got it on my second play through. Didn't take the food from the car, told Ben he could stay on the boat, didn't drop Ben from the bell tower.
  • Thanks for mentioning this Lets Player as I've been binge watching the whole of her TWD playthrough since, hahaha.

What choices did you make that you think affected it?

I was lovely to him throughout my whole third playthrough and didn't get it because I didn't steal from the car and he punched me in the face.

    Seems logical...
  • I've only done 1 playthrough and I got the bro speech
  • I was on Kenny's side for literally everything apart from the time in the meat locker. Yeah that's probably why I didn't get that infamous bro speech, but he did tell me I've always been there for Katjaa and Duck.
  • That's odd, because according to other people's games, I don't think the car has anything to do with the bro speech decision?

I'm pretty sure - still just a hypothesis though, based off of what I've seen - the decisions that matter are saving Duck and not Shawn, defending Duck in the drugstore, killing Larry, leaving Lilly, shooting Duck and dropping Ben. With only a few of these allowed to be missed (I'd guess 2.)

    But I could be wrong.

I also didn't shoot duck, but he later thanked me for that so I assumed he wasn't angry about it...

I didn't drop Ben either, because I'm not a murderer.

Goodness, if the reason he didn't want to help Clementine is because of something he thanked me for later then he really is a little shallow!

  • Yeah, shooting Duck is super important, I think. Regardless of whether or not he thanks you, the shooting Duck decision is actually the only thing that matters when it comes to his opinion of Lee in Season 2, I'm pretty sure (if you shot Duck, even if you were horrible to Kenny the rest of the game, he says something like you had some differences, but you were there for him when Duck was dying and shot him.)

But even though Kenny's one of my favorite characters in TWDG, I admit he's pretty shallow, haha.

I got the rude reaction from him sadly :I But he did end up coming with me :D
  • He really shouldn't refuse to help rescue a little girl just because you thought it was more appropriate for him to shoot his own son, especially as he thanks you...

It may just be lackluster writing.

  • I wasn't trying to get the bro speech (I didn't even know there was one), I just went with "what would I do" choices given the situation. I talked him down on the train instead of brawling it out. Leading Kenny to admit that he blames himself for not saving Sean and thinks Duck being bitten is punishment for that. Also had him shoot Fivel in the attic (Lee shot Duck) and the "You helped Kenny" spam came up. I'm not entirely sure if it's based on a points system but I do know of a couple people who still got the bro speech without helping to kill Larry, but sided with Kenny the rest of the game. They also made sure to look after Duck and Katjaa (energy bar in the drugstore, that kind of stuff).

Only once, but that was a particularly ruthless playthrough. I like Kenny, but I'm not inclined to make Lee his sycophant. I almost always get him to come after mentioning Clem is family though.
  • I got it on my first playthrough, but the only "evil" thing I did was to kill Larry. ( I didn't stole food, saved Ben, shoot the girl at the drugstore, didn't abandon Lilly.)
  • I got the Bro speech on my first playthrough, because I sided with Kenny on pretty much everything. The only thing I didn't do was drop Ben, he's such a sad sack I just couldn't do it.
