How come Carver didn't mention Nick's mom?

I was just replaying A House Divided and something crossed my mind - why didn't Carver think to mention Nick's mother when listing the people he 'lost?'

I mean, maybe it happened while they were still at Carver's camp, but Pete says he 'just' lost a sister, and they looked like they had been set up in the cabin for a while. So I'm assuming she was with them when they escaped Carver's camp, which means Carver wouldn't really have any idea she's dead.

Just an oversight?

Likely. I do wonder if Carver is ever going to ask about her whereabouts, though.

  • Maybe she was Carver's wife and he's glad she's dead.
  • Maybe he'll taunt nick about her later
  • Maybe he found Nick's mom's corpse.
  • waht a tweest

  • Maybe this happend before they joined Carvers camp, they said they thought they could control it, so it sounds like it happend early in the outbreak, coz by this point the know the only cure is like, DEATH.

Pete implies he just lost his sister (Nick's mother) recently, though.

Maybe this happend before they joined Carvers camp, they said they thought they could control it, so it sounds like it happend early in the outbreak, coz by this point the know the only cure is like, DEATH.

  • I've thought about this. I think he found out by finding her body or watching them bury her or something. I don't think its an oversight as she is still mentioned in this episode.
  • Could be a simple plot hole, but again anything is posible maybe Carver was being a creep stalking them or he somehow knows and may bring it up to Nick since he hasn't interacted with him at all.
  • I didn't even think Carver knew, plus it probably happened before or after they were with Carver. Okay, scratch that, it wasn't after because Carver said that he was looking for 7 of his people, so I'm just gonna assume it happened before they met Carver and Nick just never brought it up to him.
  • I kind of got the feeling that she died a while back, that maybe it happened when they were at Carver's camp or even before they joined up. Maybe it's because I still had the conversation between Clem and Luke about Lee still weighing in my mind, and that happened a while ago, and I just assumed Nick had to kill his mom a while ago as well. But what makes you guys say it was recent?

Side note, someone on Tumblr mentioned that the makeshift grave Clementine sees when she washes ashore could have been Nick's mom's grave. Not too sure about the likelihood of that but it struck my interest nonetheless.
  • As I've said, I'm given the impression she died recently because Pete says "I *just* lost a sister, we've all lost folks." That doesn't really sound like it happened a particularly long time ago.

I like that idea about his mom's grave.

  • Ohh okay I see. Thank you.

  • I'm thinking his mom died at Carvers camp before they escaped. Their escape might have only been a few days ago.
Sarah also said in EP1 one, that Calos is still trying to restock after they "moved".

In Ep2 Calos said that Carver is the leader of a camp NOT FAR from the cabin. Why would the group stay that close to Carvers camp for a long time?
  • Maybe he just forgot about her.
  • i always saw it as happening a while ago, but looking at what other people are saying here i'm starting to change my mind. carver will probably bring it up in the next episode, i don't think it was a plot hole because notice how at the end in the lodge the only person carver mentions he notices is missing is luke. he doesn't bring up pete or nick (determinant). the episode was nearing its end fast and the writers probably wanted to speed it along.
  • I was also under the impression that Nick's mom died after they left Carver's camp. It's possible Carver came across her grave. I'm sure Pete and Nick would have wanted to bury her properly and probably put some kind of marking to show who she was. Carver or someone in his group might have found her grave when they were out looking for the cabin group.

It could have also just been an oversight on the writer's part, or they didn't want to confuse the casual gamers who might not remember the characters mentioning Nick's mom in E1, or who didn't see the "I had to kill my mom" speech in E2.
  • Carver is too intelligent to make your mom jokes

Maybe Carver saw the grave with the words 'Nick's momma' written on it. Although to be serious they must've buried her somewhere near the cabin. He could've seen it and crossed her off the list of people to find if they marked the grave with her name.

...or it is just a plothole XD
