Episode 3 = Short as hell too?[achievement spoilers]

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
Just like i did with episode 4 of TWAU a while ago i also found some devs or play testers playing episode 3 of TWD and here's how long it took them

imgur.com/3ohsgEi.png

Only 20 minutes between "Not in Nottingham" and the end of the episode?

What do you think? I know i'm always trying to instill happy thoughts on people but this kind of worries me.

I wont post any links in order to not invade their privacy.

Not surprising, honestly. They seem to like their 90 minute runtime.

Kind of concerning everything is going to get shoved into seven and a half hours if it keeps up, though, as compared to season 1's approx. 12 - but they've done well enough so far I guess.

Season 1 had a lot of padding to the gameplay in the episodes (walking around Crawford) so i'm not really bothered by it although given we already know the Episode 4 achievements from what it looks not everything will be wrapped up in the last 90 minutes. So get ready for another cliffhanger and Season 3 to come out in 2018 LOL
  • They said they were doing that so you could complete it in one sitting. Get used to the shorter episodes, but at least they'll be good so I'm not complaining. I always take my time when playing the episodes though, looking around, trying to talk to people, etc. At least I know I'll enjoy the game.
  • damn theres only 4 min in between some of them. i was hoping this episode would have much more meat but it isnt looking up.
  • at least we know it coming very soon now
  • one ''long'' day lol

  • Telltale is gonna hopefully surprise us on Episode 5 by making it the longest with at least 120-150 minutes.
  • Yeah, A House Divided actually took me closer to 2 hours, so there's hope that this guy was just speeding through I guess.

  • Fast gameplay.
  • That'd be a pleasant surprise, seeing as Episode 5 of season 1 seems to have started the short trend. :S

There seems to be a big gap between Fresh Fish and Long Way Down, either the person playing took a break or that part is a long segment. Maybe that's the part we see in the preview where Clementine is doing chores, hopefully it's like a hub where we have time to look around at stuff and talk to people.

A date calculator says it took them 1 hour 25 minuets to finish the game, there is some gameplay before the first achievement so it could be slightly longer.

I like these shorter episodes better. I'll be fine with it if they make only 1 hour episodes.

Usually there is 10-15 minutes before the first achievement. So this means it took him around 1 hour and 40 minutes to finish the game. This means it will take me around 2 hours to finish the episode because i like to "take my time" and not rush through it.

  • Most people sit through 2 hour long movies in one sitting without complaining. A 90 minute movie would be considered short. They could easily hit the two hour mark and still have lots and lots of people play it in one sitting.

The '90 minutes is more cinematic' crap strikes me as just an excuse to release less content in each episode. I don't find it endearing in the least.

2 hours is too long imo. 90 mins is perfect

Me, personally? I like to receive the same amount of content when I pay the same amount of money, not get less and praise them for it.

  • so it is 90 minutes nothing new here I guess if they would just add hub areas back it would go back to 120 minutes like the season 1 episodes

It's my opinion. deal with it ;)
  • not to mention this is not a movie, its a game. I sat through playing season 1's longer episodes without complaining, its what gamers do.

  • The number of 400days characters + Nick + Alvin might also have an impact on the length. Remember how much longer the hospital-escape in S1Ep5 was if they all help you looking for Clem as opposed to if you went alone?
  • An episode lasting one hour wouldn't be too bad, but the one thing to consider is what events will take place. For example: if episode 3 be similar to Episodes one and two of this season which consisted of the player constantly being thrown into new areas as the episode proceeded with not much of a chance to have conversations with certain characters, then there may be a problem since one would expect Episode 3 to be much calmer in comparison to the last two episodes, particularly episode 2 when the group was being tracked by Carver, and thus there shouldn't be much reason for the episode to railroad the player into multiple events in a fashion similar to the last two episodes. That is my opinion at least.

  • I am surprised that this episode is expected to be shorter since there is no reason for events to pass by quickly since there is no drive to be constantly moving and thus I would kind of expect some more time for character development and learning about Carver's camp.
  • VERY SOON !!

  • This episode surely has to be long if the 400 days characters are going to be in it and there are other new characters too, from everything I've heard and seen it must be an eventful episode too and with there being so many characters in one place then there must be lots of talking to people and exploring to be done etc.
We are halfway through so I can also see this being the episode that links the first and second part of the season together and will give us an idea of what is to come in the last 2 episodes with many questions finally being answered and loose ends tied up which have been around since 400 days.

    Well it better be.
  • can you post a link to wear you saw the people playing it?
  • I will admit 90 minutes is a little shorter then I would like, I think S1 E3 was close to 2.5 hours, but I would prefer 90 minutes of awesome over 150 minutes of rubbish.
  • edited May 2014
Well, no, that one, I think, was too long simply because you spent most of your time watching Lee walk from place to place very slowly. Now I'm not saying I like shorter areas, but I like that they are indeed more cinematic because you don't spend 30 minutes to an hour of every episode watching Clem walk very slowly form one place to another. Could they still have the episodes be a little longer and keep it being more "cinematic"? Probably, but like I said, I'm still not too bothered because honestly, I didn't even notice with A House Divided. I did a bit with All That Remains, but A House Divided seemed to be a good length to me.

I miss the days of Around Every Corner. That son of a bitch took me nearly 4 hours. :S

  • But S1E3 was 150 minutes of awesome. They can easily do it.

  • I agree with you, i'm sure there is one reason or another for the average length of episodes in season two being shorter.

But S1E3 was 150 minutes of awesome. They can easily do it.

  • Same here, man. I don't mind the hour and a half for each episode though. It's like watching a movie when you play one so it isn't that short. Do I wish it would be at least two and a half hours long? Sure but sometimes it drags out a bit.

Yeah, A House Divided actually took me closer to 2 hours, so there's hope that this guy was just speeding through I guess.

ANOTHER HOUR AND A HALF EPISODE? God dammit, we give you time, we wait and still it's always 90 minutes! I wonder why, because Season 1 was long, had a lot of hub areas and was really fun, and it didn't take that long.

Probably due to working on other titles, I guess. It's a shame that they disappoint like 50% of their fans only to say they're working on multiple projects. They could've postponed GOT or something, and then the quality would go up.
