Does anyone else fine with 90 minute episodes and wish they were a bit shorter?

I don't understand why people complain about this. Season 1 episodes were over 6 hours long(6 hours of filler) and couldn't be finished in one sitting. They fixed this and now we can enjoy these awesome episodes in one sitting. Hell, i wish they were a bit shorter. 60 minutes is absolutely perfect.

  • Funny.
  • I don't wish they were shorter, but I also don't mind shorter/less hub filled episodes as long as the story is good.

Season 1 episodes over 6 hours long?

Nope, but I would jizzle to my pants if season 2 episodes were so long.

I want them to be longer 'cause I fucking love this game and I could play it forever.
  • Im fine with waiting until i have 4 free hours to sink into a game. Beats waiting a couple months for an hour of content, in my opinion atleast.
  • I would be fine with it if they released ten 60-minute episodes over the course of 4-6 weeks.

  • No.

    > "Season 1 episodes were over **2** hours long(**2** hours of filler)... "
    One man's filler...

    > "...and couldn't be finished in one sitting."
Well, I guess Telltale has more of a demographic for "single sitting entertainment" than I though.

    > "Hell, i wish they were a bit shorter. 60 minutes is absolutely perfect. "
Double that and it would be perfect, for me.
  • I think 90 minutes is perfect :P 60 Minutes is too less and in my opinion 2 hours would be too long :/

Even 90 minutes is short and you want them to be only 1 hour long? Srsly?

90 mins is not short but it's still pretty long imo. 60 mins is really perfect. I hope TWD ep4/ep5 is 60 mins too

  • "Season 1 episodes were over 6 hours long(6 hours of filler)"

Nobody is gonna take your thread seriously with statements like that. Like most of the people here, I would've preferred if they were actually longer. And why would you want the episodes to be 60 minutes only?

Maybe i'm wrong about episodes being 6 hours long but season 1 episodes were unnecessarily long. I want it to be 60 mins so most of people ( like me) can finish it in one sitting rather than taking multiple breaks.

Longer = more content. Why would you not want more content? That makes no sense to me.

You'd be surprised. I don't know if some actually prefer them to be shorter or if they are just blindly defending the new approach.

  • But the game main focus is the story and the characters. The cabin group already suffers because of the lack of interaction with them, imagine what would happen if the episodes were only 60 minutes long.

And taking multiple breaks seems like a stretch to me. The episodes in S1 were around at least 2 hours, either way they weren't longer than a movie. While some of the puzzles do seemed forced, the conversations with the other characters played an important role in the game.

As someone who does somewhat defend the shorter episodes (but would still prefer more hub areas, exploration, and optional dialogue), I'll just add in that length doesn't necessarily equal more content. Depending on how much branching there is in the game, you might not be able to see a decent chunk of the content in any single playthrough.

For instance, there was a lot of backlash over the new TWAU episode for being so short, but part of it was that there were entire conversations and characters you could miss depending on the choices you make in the game. If they had made it so that you got those conversations no matter what you did, it would have certainly made for a longer game, but it wouldn't have felt as dynamic as it was.

  • It's probably a bit of both. No matter what way I look at it I don't see the logic behind wanting episodes to be shorter. I never once thought that season 1 episodes were unnecessarily long or drawn out, they were just right.

Having to take a break to finish the episode is perfectly fine with me, in fact I prefer it. I like snack breaks.

It's not the length that bugs me. Even the longest of Season 1's episodes didn't take much more than 2 hours. It's that all the interaction is cut out. In Season 1 there was so much stuff you could interact with, so many conversations to have. Now, if they even give you an option to have conversation outside of the main path, it's just a one liner without any branching options. It takes away the character of the game. Not to mention we're being charged the same price for less content.
  • Glad to see we agree.

I'm not sure about the people who defend this...Do they really feel like this...? Or they are just defending it just to stir reactions...

Took the words out of my mouth.

No the walking dead need's to be longer as Cabin crew Development is quite bad compared to season 1 Character's
Telltale should make each episode 2 hours long so they can add the Character development needed for Carlo's, Sarah, Sarita, Alvin,Luke and Carver
  • I was actually ok with *A Crooked Mile*'s length, and understand the potential in more branching. I still think that the average length (branching aside) fits that series better than what some of us have come to expect from TWD. Next episode could change my mind, as *A Crooked Mile* did, especially since it seems that they're introducing a lot of variables and possibilities with the two determinant characters and the cast from 400 days.

For now, however, I stand by my statement that this season and its cast have so far suffered because of them lacking time to be better established as people and -to a degree, because I also realize they have been working together well before Clem showed up- as a group.

It is not so much as blindly asking for more length for the sake of length, but to spend more time on the strengths of the IP, which are the characters and their interactions. I have very little problems with the overall plot so far, and last episode's finale was done great, I can see why some put it as their favorite episode. I do have a problem with our cast, a little bit with our protagonist (more with the handling and writing) and very much with the on-rails feel this time around.

  • Waiting 2 months for 90 minutes is always a little underwhelming.
  • If we would get more episodes per season plus shorter wait between them, then i could go with 60 min per episode.
  • Hmm; I wonder if 60 minute episodes could work in the context of putting a number of branching stories and paths into the short episode, that way: players can replay the episode again or watch Youtube videos of different paths which brings about potential for more discussion in the time it takes for the next episode to be released.
  • It'd be cool to have like a 100 minute episode? That or more. I mean, no more than 2.5 hours but I don't think I like finishing the episode in one sitting.
  • I think 90 minutes is ideal for a basic playthrough of an episode, especially if TTG's idea is for us to play through it in one sitting. But I also think there should be at least an extra 30 minutes of character development and other details, in the form of hubs, optional areas, etc., that while aren't integral to the gameplay, help to develop the story. That way the game appeals to both the casual gamers and the diehard fans.

Not sure if serious or sarcastic. ಠ_ಠ
  • What's funny about this is you'd be happy to wait three months for an hour long episode. I'd prefer each episode to be about 2 to 2 and a half hours long like season 1. Just personal preference though.

  • Yeah, *Around Every Corner* may have been an exception. I still like it very much, though, and the Playing Dead with its writer and director made me appreciate it much more than I originally did.

I found EP4 to be WAY too long.

  • F*** IT ALL!!! :D
  • that's the last thing this season needs
