Who would you go to Wellington with, Kenny or Luke?
I’ve seen the question brought up over a possible “if Telltale makes us choose between saving Kenny and Luke what are we gonna do!?” situation a number of times in the past on here and tumblr. And well…I'll be straight with you, I don’t think that is going to happen for one reason: For that option to be thrown out there, Kenny and Luke would both inevitably have to die...and, that would suck.
However, I do believe at some point or another we’re going to have to make a choice between them, a really tough one. Not life and death in saving one or the other, but something more to do based on trust.
Remember the dinner scene and having to decide who to sit with? Seems like innocent torture enough, but there are a lot of things I’ve noticed on my replays during the part of that episode that caught my attention. For example, regardless of which you decide to sit with, both Kenny and Luke will ask Clementine if she trusts the other, and if answered with yes, the both will quiz further by asking, “Do you trust him with your life?”
One thing noticeably different from sitting at Kenny's table, is this piece of dialogue:
---
Kenny: That guy…Big Al? He said they were on the run.
Clementine: Some people are after them.
Kenny: Well, you don’t have to worry about that no more. They’ll go tomorrow and you can stay here.
Sarita: Absolutely. Honey, you can stay with us as long as you want.
Kenny: She’s stayin’ for good.
Sarita: If that’s what she wants.
Kenny: Of course she does. Right, Clem?
---
And if you pick the option...
---
Clementine: I can’t leave my friends.
Kenny: What?
Sarita: Of course you can’t. They can stay too.
Kenny: No.
Sarita: Honey.
---
Another thing to point out, is the argument that is close to breaking out at the table during the conversation on Wellington and the decisions they give you. You can choose have Clem be passive, either by remaining silent or saying [Please don’t fight] or by choosing to defend Kenny or Luke [Kenny, stop.] or [Luke, listen to him.]
And during this near missed arguement, you get this dialogue come up:
Luke: It's fine Nick, we're not staying.
Kenny: She's staying.
Luke: What, excuse me?
Kenny: You heard me.
But what I do remember most is the conversation Clementine has with Walter immediately afterwards outside, where Walter reassures her everything will be fine and for her help work on them -in reference to Luke, Nick and Kenny - to where you get these options pop up:
[I want to stay.]
[Everything will not be fine.]
[I’m leaving in the morning.]
I stand by what I said on not believing that the game will have us choose on saving Kenny or Luke while the other perishes. But what do I think will happen instead without a doubt? That perhaps we as Clementine, will have to decide who to go to Wellington with.
I believe things are going to get worse between Kenny and Luke, that Telltale are going to keep pushing conflict and disagreements between these two men to breaking point, until they just can’t travel with each other any longer, and that whatever group is with them at that point will get split into two. Meanwhile up until then, the story will have allowed us, the player, to see both the strengths and weaknesses of these two characters that will weigh in on our decision on who would be best in looking out for Clementine.
Even if they all met up again at Wellington and the choice only matters for a little while (like back in season 1 in convincing others to come with you to go look for Clementine, which only played into the first sections of Episode 5 before returning to the house) I could see something like that very well happening, and I really wouldn’t be surprised if Clementine gets put on the spot and has to make up her mind on what to do.
I’ve seen the argument before about Clem not needing a guardian, but she still needs a friend. She might be tough, but Clementine is only 11, and after seeing how lost she was in those woods after getting bitten by a dog and being separated from Christa, you can’t expect her to survive long on her own. Clem needs people she can trust to keep on breathing, and a choice like that would be a tough one for a kid to make, like some cruel "Mommy and Daddy got divorced, who you gonna go live with now?" and I really wouldn't put it past Telltale to do something like that.
So here’s a question for you all:
If push comes to shove and Kenny and Luke go their separate ways to Wellington, which forces poor little Clem to decide on who to walk on over to, who will it be?
My own personal answer would be Luke, all for the same reasons why I didn’t ask for Kenny to look after Clementine back in season 1. Kenny has made decisions I didn’t approve of, like killing Larry and coaxing Lee into dropping Ben, but also because Kenny isn’t mentally strong and fell apart after losing Katjaa and Duck. That’s one thing I give Luke credit for is that whatever happened to his folks, he’s still managed to keep himself together for the most part like Lee did after losing his family. And even if he needs a few more years on him to be completely fool proof, I’d trust Luke more with Clementine than with Kenny, because at least Luke tries to go the passive routes in confrontations like with Matthew on the bridge, where Kenny’s short fuse at times might put her in danger.
So, what would you do...?

I would trust season 1 Ken more, but he's about to break.
Kenny, however, seeing as he's already replaced Katjaa, I'm concerned about his plans for Clementine. He's a very family orientated guy, and he may be heading back into that direction..
I have this picture in my mind , clementine chooses to flew with luke from ( i dont know ) a heard of walkers (?) and kenny looks one last time to clementine, not scared by the walkers that surround him, but just sad/depressed at clementine, because she was the last person he would really call family, and she left him ( I know, sarita is pretty important for him too .... but i think the connection between kenny/clem is stronger than to sarita) , befor he is being eaten alive .... <.<
He is the last person Clementine can call 'family' anymore. He was with her from the beginning and I want him to stick around till the end. I don't trust Luke, I dunno why everyone is so open to him. We know nothing of his past life, he's to 'nice' and overall he has done nothing to stick up for Clem but acts like he has earned the right to be bestfriends with her.
At the dinner table when you ask to stay with Kenny he gets all uptight about it like you should want to stay with him. I trust Nick more than I trust Luke. I just can't connect with him, he's Mr.Perfect.
"Hey the group is in danger, better run off" At least Kenny had the balls to stick around.
It's a no brainier for me to be honest. Kenny all the way and I know I'm gonna get slaughtered for hating on Telltales new writing tool Luke but I don't want him forced on me.
Kenny considered my Lee and Clem family in Season One, and just like I did with Lee, I'm remaining loyal to him until the end, because Kenny did the same for me.
But seriously... I sat for like five minutes deciding who the SIT with... and now which one to actually leave with?
If this decision occurs... I will spend like 20 minutes on it. I will probably say Luke first. This is just because Kenny seems unstable... but I will definitely replay the episode the other way as well.
On the other hand, I never liked how Kenny handled things, I don't trust him (who says he won't let Clem die like he did with Lee if she disagrees with him), and on top of that he seems mentally unstable now.
What if it's on a timer? >:D
Mostly because Luke leads through respect of others and shows genuine empathy. Kenny is selfish and always has been. He's never really got your back, he's consistently shown to only be supportive when there's something in it for him. When he's leading it's through simple assumptions that people will do as he says.
As was mentioned above, Luke treats Clem as an equal and discusses her decisions with her. Kenny just tells her how it's going to be.
I'd trust Luke a lot more than Kenny at this point. And that's including his unusual disapperance. We'll see how I feel after episode 3.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the only time Kenny disarms first is if Clementine actually says they're cool. If Luke disarms first when you don't even vouch for them, doesn't this suggest more trust in Clementine?
My goal is to find Christa, and has been ever since she was separated from Clem. She's more likely to be in Wellington than she is to be anywhere else, so I want to get there as soon as possible. As of right now, I'd pick Kenny, because Luke and the others had never even heard of Wellington before the dinner conversation with Kenny. If that changes, well, like I said, I'll just go with whoever I think would get there first.
And the way you said that about getting that fastest makes me of a race XD on your Mark, get legs, go!
