How much do the game and TV show have in common?

I have played season 1 and 400 Days. I haven't played any of season 2. (I want to wait until the whole thing is released.) Instead I'm watching the TV series. I notice that the game and the TV series have a surprising amount in common, down to characters and locations.

So I'm wondering, should I stop watching the show? Will it ruin season 2 of the game for me?

They have nothing in common apart from the name, watching the show won't ruin the game for you.
  • They are both more about character development than the comic and both are absolutely devoid of themes like rape.

You already ruined Season 2 for you. In Season 2 you play as Rick and wake up in the hospital. And in Episode 2 you will reach a farm where you will meet Clementine and Omid but a guy called the governor will kidnap Clementine and make her a slave at his town and in Episode 3 we must save her. If you want to learn more go see Season 3 of the TV Show.
  • That's fucking stupid, Ben.

  • Yeah, soon after I posted this question I realized, episode 1 isn't ruining the show for me, why should the show ruin episode 2?

  • There no such thing as being superior when It comes to stuff like this. It's a matter of taste and choice. Well not as much here because If don't have the same opinions as everyone else you'll get disliked to hell. It has made this forum extremly narrow-minded. If I was to say I don't think The Walking Dead is the best game do you really think people would respect my opinion? Heck no.

Why are you waiting for the complete release?
You don't know wich awesome story you're missing

Show and games have the same rules and themes like - everyone who dies becomes a walker (no matter how as long as the brain is intact), amputation works, people have no concept of zombies - they call them walkers, lurkers so on and pretty much everything revolves around forming a group, who you trust, how to stay safe and so on. Also the game is waay better but show as some nice seasons too. The events in game and show are unrelated trough some tv show characters appear in season 1 of the game.
  • I'm missing it only for now. :) All in good time.

They don't have much if anything in common except for a couple of character names. The show more closely follows the comic. The game is kind of its own entity. It's set in the same universe, that's it.
  • MackTuesday, I played the game, till Season 2 Episode 2 now (+400 days), instead of just waiting I watched the TV Series untill Season 4 Episode 16, and yes, you can read this no spoilers :P.
But, while I watched, nothing was in common. Nothing spoiled me or I couldn't just say in the TV Series, that was from the game!
And yes, you can watch it.
  • Not true. The show has definitely touched on rape. Most notably in the finale.

Macon, the hometown of Lee was in the tv show, too. And in season 4 where the group stucked in the herd with their car, you saw in the background a train and a town witch looks identical like in episode 4

  • I forgot to mention that I don't want to wait several times, once for each episode. I'd rather wait once, then not have to wait again.

  • I got 20 something dislikes for saying I liked Greg Miller because he is actually a telltale fan.

  • I get tons of dislikes trying to be funny, but Kenny fans are just so sensitive.

    Err. Zombies?

Otherwise nothing. It's not even based on the TV Show. I don't even think there's been any comic references so far in season 2.

  • The wait enhances the experience. Something is lost by waiting to play it all at once.

  • No offence but if you haven't played season 2 yet I would suggest you stay away from the forums, otherwise by the time you play it you'll probably know the entire script by heart. Just tryin' to say you're at serious risk of spoilers.
  • they both have nothing in common at all other than the fact that they share the same name and the obvious one both have walkers one always is good and never disappoints and the other has a bunch of filler episodes before the good stuff comes around
  • Beat me to it!
