  • At the end of the day she's a fictional character so it's not a big deal whether or not you like her. But after going the whole series with her I find it surprising that someone could say they just don't care about her. In my eyes, she basically IS The Walking Dead Game.

"So let me get this strait you dont like Clem or Lee and your name is Kennysuck's?
    1) why do you play this game?
    2) Any other character you hate?
    3) If you hate 3 of the main character's why play the game?
    4) you a troll?"

Kennysucks didn't say he didn't like Clem he said he didn't care for her in season 2 unlike season 1. I can relate to what he is saying. our roles are very different when playing season 2. Season 1 put us in the role of the caretaker so our parental, nurturing instincts came into play. Some of us saw our own children or siblings in Clem and cared for her through Lee as we would have if we were with our loved ones in that situation. Still with me.... Now in season 2, much of that is lost. It is more like watching a character objectively in a tv show than the feeling season 1 gave many of us which was that we was there with them with our Avatar, Lee Everett.

The dude hardly deserves to be called a troll it's not like he wished she was dead or anything he just felt less connected to her than he did in season 1. To which I can relate. Season 1 was powerful! Many doubted season 2 could follow up successfully and be as impactful. I was was one of those people and still am. Season two may have improved graphics but it doesn't strike the same chords as season 1 nor does it pull on the heartstrings. Lee's death left me enraged. I can't see me feeling the same emotion over any of the characters dying in season 2. I worried about Clem more in season 1 because she was a little, cute, innocent girl. Clem is practically Lara Croft now. I'm not scared for her because she is no longer scared of the situations she is in. She is not helpless. Only 2 episodes in and the adults are looking to Clem as their saviour for fuck sake. Where Lee wouldn't have wanted Clem to climb through the air vent through fear of her being apprehended by the ST Johns, Alvin and the preggo chick are encouraging her to go and get help, to sneak past armed men to find Kenny, et.al. I don't know, maybe it's the body count, the amount of walkers Clem has taken down in 2 episodes, but she just doesn't seem as real a character to me as she did in season 1 when she was vulnerable and at risk. I mean from time your stitching up your own wounds Commando style and taking the fight to the walkers is it any wonder some players aren't worried about Clem as they used to be?

As for the question, why play the game? After playing season 1 you're kind of invested in the story and feel you owe it to your self to see it to the end. It's kind of like when your reading a novel and it gets stale two thirds in and you keep reading anyway but without the enthusiasm or when you're having sex and not enjoying it but you continue anyway, until climax because you feel you should. I'm playing season 2 but if i'm honest i'm just going through the motions because I invested in Clem's story when I bought season one's season pass, but I wasn't blown away by it as I was by season one. Just saying.

What do you want? The sweet little treehouse girl with the flowers on the walki-talki exists no more after loosing parent, friends everyone who she loved, death around her, living in fear and standing escape. Everyones Character would be changed in such a situation.

Clem has my respect for sitting through so long

"lol, i think playing as clem has definitely made me and most others care for her more as a character "

Think about what your saying..... How can you care for a character that is in your direct control more than an npc whose fate is unknown. The control you have is the difference between caring for our self in the real world and caring for a love one in the real world. 9 out of 10 of us would put our loved ones first every time, i.e going without food to feed younger siblings or children. Playing as Clem is no different to playing as Lara or any other protagonist, We care enough about them to want them to succeed and to further the story but we don't worry about them because we have control over them and can guide them from danger with the flick of an analogue. watching over Clem as an npc is a whole different experience, one that is likened to looking out for a loved one in our own personal lives. I get that people love the game but damn, sometimes it's like everything is considered better, no matter what and people get pissed when ever someone speaks against the game or prefers aspects of season 1.

  • I really hope, if you ever have kids, you continue to care about them after they outgrow being young and adorable and start developing into slightly more abrasive pre-teens and teenagers.
  • Don't play season 2 then.
  • I don't agree with you, but I respect your opinion. I feel very connected to Clementine (especially after being able to play as her in Season 2), because she reminds me a lot of myself. Though I can't imagine growing up in the midst of the zombie apocalypse, I know what it's like to be a little girl, trying to hold onto my childhood, even as people around me are pressuring me to grow up faster. I know what it's like to be overlooked by adults and not be taken very seriously. It's almost like, since I know the feels, it's my job to make Clem's experiences go a little easier. Plus, she's so real that it surprises me sometimes. She's like a mini me, and that's probably why I enjoy playing her so much.
  • I respect your honesty, but just the thought of Clem being disliked or not cared about makes me cringe, how could anyone not care about that adorable little face of hers?
  • I enjoy playing as clem. its fun ^-^

  • I liked Lee but i didn't care about him too much, like his character was good and all that but i couldn't connect with him too much

What did you think of Lee then?

  • You don't really care about Clem? F*ck you Kenny.
  • He mean that he doesn't have to worry about her cuz she is the main character so nothing bad will happen to her
  • It is your opinion, man. If that's how you feel, then I am not going to try and force you to change your mind. Personally, I still like Clementine. She has changed of course, but no one stays the same in a Zombie Apocalypse.
  • I still care about Clem, but I do look back at Clementine in season 1 and I feel sad because she was so sweet and innocent then. Clem's had to grow up. Even though the game let's you decide how much she's changed [I always play her responses nice with a hint of sass XD], I still care about her and want her to be happy.
  • Believe me, it's possible. One of my friends even don't understand how anyone can like her or care about her. He also thinks that Lilly is way better then Clementine. It's his opinion but you know... I don't get it how could he think like that.

I respect your honesty, but just the thought of Clem being disliked or not cared about makes me cringe, how could anyone not care about that adorable little face of hers?

  • Lee also was a main character and did you remember what happened to him?

  • "How could you be so heartless"
  • I don't care, I made a connection to Clem in the first game, and I'm not going to care less for her now.
  • Insert "If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong" Bill Nye the science guy meme.

I understand your opinion and why you have it but I still think Clem is awesome, younger and older Clem are equally adorable/awesome in my book.
  • Probably not but we have to remember the most important fact of The Walking Dead - no one is safe.

  • Kennysucks. Why are you playing the game then. You don't love lee. Nor like Clem and your name says Kennysucks

yeah i care about her as a cared about Lee, i didn't care too much about Lee either, i did like him but i didn't LOVE him

  • I understand your opinion, it's like. I care more about other people in the game too, because I'm playing Clem and as Lee I thought of someone else all the time and didnt care about myself. Now as Clem I feel the same way.
  • I agree. To an extent. I don't care about what happens to Clem as much as I used to. It's directly in my control. I didn't feel destroyed when Lee got bit, because I just walked forward like a fucking sheep and grabbed the walkie talkie. Whatever happens to Clem, it'll be directly because of me... And I'm not sure I'll care about that as much as indirectly. Like Nick might have gotten to me if I got him killed. I would have indirectly killed him.

    > How can you care for a character that is in your direct control more than an npc whose fate is unknown.

Because for some people, caring about a character comes from liking the character and seeing them make it through tough challenges, which in Clementine's case, we're experiencing right there alongside her. "Caring" for a character isn't synonymous with "taking care of" that character.

Also, we may not worry about Clementine dying (at least, not yet, that's definitely a real fear for the ending of the season), but we worry about her getting hurt like she has been in the upcoming episode, or breaking down from losing everybody, or every other horrible thing that could happen to her. Her being the playable character doesn't make her pain any less real than it was when she was younger and an NPC, especially if her pain changes who she is in a substantial way that we must experience as well as the player. Like, for example, if she were to be captured and tortured by a band of psychopaths and is forever changed from it as according to the story, then even as the player, we have no control over that and can only watch a character we like be wounded mentally and physically. The fear is still real, regardless of our involvement.

  • ITA! I don't understand this idea that because the character is under your control that you can't still care about what happens to them. Didn't people care about what happened to Lee? And we've already built a relationship with Clementine so what is different?
