Wow. Who saw that one coming? [SPOILERS]

The death of Carver.

It wasn't the fact that his death was so unexpected this early on that shocked me, but it was the beating that he received from Kenny that did.

I wanted to stay behind and watch it because of all the deaths he's caused during his time of tyranny. But his death was absolutely brutal, I mean he didn't even have a face after what Kenny did. I even half regretted staying behind in the end. Just wow.

Great episode nonetheless and I look forward to Episode 4 in late June/ early July.

Comments

  • I expected his death since the trailer. I knew he was going to die. I stayed, because I thought I would of be able to have an option to kick Carver in the face.
  • The only unexpected thing is that I can't react to Carver's death. Why can't I go tell him to "go fuck yourself", "burn in hell", or even something amazingly shitty like "You got something on your face".

Not even a simple option to kick him or spit in his face or help Kenny kill him.
  • I thought stupid to put Kenny to kill Carver but now that I saw that happening in the game I actually think he had a good death scene.

I certainly didn't expect Carver to be taken out in such a cliche way, no.

Kenny killing him reeks of fanservice. I'll be honest, the way they handled Carver certainly could have been handled a lot better. A lot of potential wasted in my opinion....

I'm looking forward to ep 4. But I'm sure not as hyped about it as I was regarding ep 3.
  • Yeah, his death scene was kinda brutal. But they were leading up to it. I was actually disappointed by the way they turned his character, or even defeated him, "oh, how the mighty have crumbled".

After watching the trailer, however, I wasn't sure who Kenny was gonna kill. I was more shocked by the number of deaths of named character (excluding Goddamn-I-would-have-strangled-you-with-your-own-guts Troy).

I didn't. But I'll admit I saw some major character evolution of Kenny and potential evolution of Clementine if she stays. One of the most powerful scenes of Season Two to date.
  • I'd have done it myself if I could. This fucker was a direct threat to my life and well-being.

Honestly, I expected there to be at least one more episode at the compound, but TT never spends more than one episode in a single area, so I should have expected it. I hope the next season would move at a slower pace. By no means do I want it to be as sluggish as Season 2 of the TV show, but I'd like to see them develop some characters a little more. Carter was a psychopath, but we never really learned much about him other than he shagged someone's wife and thinks the kid child is his.

I'm more griped we didn't see more of the compound. It sounded like a huge place, but it actually felt more like about two warehouses and a yard, like the entire thing was built just to house Carver's guards and the Clem's group.

I think there might have been more reluctance to basically overrun the place if we saw dozens of people though.
  • Clementine's facial expression changed so much at the end of the scene...
  • Smug Clem is best Clem.

    Wish. Fucking. Granted! :D

I chose to leave, and to not be a witness to Carvers death. Because, he wasn't worth the attention. Even he's last breath wasn't wort my attention. I think that was one of my cruellest choice. (If you think it in that way)
Otherwise one of the best episodes so far!
  • I walked away, but after looking up the death on Youtube... holy crap was that brutal. I'm kind of glad that I left. And not just because of that, it was nice to just turn my back on Carver and not give him the satisfaction of being proven right about Clem. Especially as he was about to die.
  • I just looked it up aswell.
Indeed, i was kinda expecting a total smashed face.
It was actually more satisfying to leave, instead of watching him die. I'm glad that i (for once) made a good decision in a chaotic world, haha.

Regardless, I am not "jelly" of him by any means, no. Still, it doesn't make Kenny killing Carver any less of a cliche.

  • Comic spoilers:
His death reminded me a LOT of Glenn's death in issue 100. particularly with the eyeball popping out.

Whatever, people like you will make up any excuse just to put Ken down, what if I told you TT writes their story the way THEY WANT TO.

Let me guess Kennys return was also a "fanservice", but the fact is they planned that since season 1, most of us know that if Carver were to be killed in that fashion by anyone it would be Kenny. This is a guy that (depending on your choices) could end up hating Lee's guts for not having his back at every opportunity, what do you fucking think he is gonna do to some one like Carver? His reaction was very much in character.

  • Why do you brand me as someone who makes up excuses just to put Kenny down? He's actually one of my favorite characters, he still is. However, that doesn't prevent me from pointing out his "I got lucky" line or his fanboys wanking him every chance they get. I'm just saying there were other ways of killing Carver besides that.

Anyway, it's done now. You stick to your opinion, and I'll stick to mine.

I particularly like the myriad of emotions that play across Clem's face as she watches. If any one thing can be said to have taken her innocence it would be that. Also how many people got to shoot Carver with his own tiny gun turning Clem into Mini Altair.
  • I thought there was a chance Carver could die, but I was indeed surprised when it happened.

  • Brutal? That shit is fucking beautiful! A few things I noticed, the part where his nose is supposed to be has moved a little up his face, his upper jaw is completely missing and not to mention the gorgeous eyeball dangling from the side.
