400 Days - Just saying...

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
I've seen a lot of people complaining about the 400 Days characters not getting enough 'screen time' in Season 2.

The thing is, not everyone bought and played 400 Days. It was DLC. DLCs aren't always bought and played by everyone. All of the 400 Days characters couldn't be 'super-vital' because not everyone knew them. There were also so many combinations of who could come with you and not that'd it'd just be tedious to code in a major role for each character.

It's like playing Dragon Age: Origins Awakening, a DLC, and being pissed that Awakening's characters weren't intensely vital to the story of Dragon Age 2: it's DLC, not everyone owns it.

Good game design is making the game playable for everyone who enjoys the genre. Bad game design would be making each 400 Days character a screentime-hogging spotlight, whilst those who didn't play 400 Days would be sitting scratching their heads, wondering "Who the fuck is/are this guy/girl/these people?"

While I think it would've been cooler to have 400 Days characters be a little more prominent for those who played the DLC, I don't think by any means the Episode is god-awful and abhorrently bad because of it. I think it was a fantastic episode in its own right.

them being part of a DLC isn't an excuse we have Bonnie who for whatever reason gets a lot of screen time here she was from 400 Days and same goes for Tavia. What makes them different from characters like Jane and Mike? Especially Mike like who is he? What is his purpose? It doesn't matter if people didn't play the DLC these characters could've been featured more. People could learn about these characters lives AS IS and if anything I think it would entice people to go out and get the DLC if anything. I hope they show up later on at least I mean sure Carver might be dead but they still might want blood for helping destroy their camp. I could see that as a possibility or even if they didn't go to the camp maybe we'll run into them in Episode 4 who knows but if it is left as is and us never getting a chance to see them again it is a highly missed and wasted potential Telltale could've used. That is the only thing I didn't care for in Episode 3. Don't get me wrong I loved every other aspect of it (very intense episode) but in a game where story and choices are everything i'd expect a little more payoff than for these characters I got to know and control just to vanish into thin air.
  • If you think about it Episode 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also DLC..
  • Didn't you read what he said? It would be too expensive and time consuming to make unique stories for each and every character in the DLC. You need to realize that Tavia and Bonnie would head to the camp no matter what choice you make in the DLC as well. This is the reason Bonnie has screen time and also why Tavia does. A similar situation happened in episode 5 season one, where the people you brought along with Lee following the end of episode 4 didn't serve much of a purpose.

This takes white knighting to a whole new level, I cringe at the sheer lack of self-respect many of you have.
  • Dude. They take 1.5 to 2 months making the episode... They could easily do it...

  • The thing with Bonnie and Tavia being in the episode is that they could just be new characters to any who haven't played the DLC but are playing Season 2, and are guaranteed characters for those that have played 400 Days because no matter your choices Bonnie goes with Tavia. The other characters are just variables, could be anywhere, and with so many characters it seems to me like it'd be unnecessary to design interactions for all of them. So I think I agree with you.
  • There are still 2 more episodes to come. Who knows who is going to show on it? Dont have your Jimmies rustled that soon~

  • Yes, I did read what he said and I know why Tavia and Bonnie have more screen time but the expensive and time consuming part doesn't make a bit of sense considering we have Jane and Mike. It's like.....what's the point of making these well thought out reasonings as to why these characters go to Carver's camp based on their decisions when it literally means jack swat? Also the bit in Season 1 actually had more alternatives to it besides 2 passing lines each. The expense thing can't be used as an excuse since we all paid for this DLC. Look I know you all are probably thinking i'm bashing the game and it's far from that I loved this episode and I loved 400 Days and I will be totally fine with the cameos they had in Episode 3 so as long as we get to see them more later on time will tell I guess. These characters have so much potential and I just don't want to see it wasted for like....Mike? Or somebody we never even met before and it's just a shame. I loved the episode otherwise though.

I think it could work easily with 2 different ways.

    1. People who didn't go with Tavia we would meet in Episode 4 and Bonnie and whoever else went would get to have their "reunion" with them. Episode 4 could start to better develope these characters at that point and replace ones that die because let's face it Nick , Sarita and Rebecca are screwed.

    2. People who are at Carver's camp get cameos in Episode 3 (obviously it's already out) and once the herd washes over the camp. They either run into Clem's group or track Clem's group down and have it all play out slightly different.

In either of these 2 scenarios there wouldn't be much focus on them until Episode 4 and it would all come down to them all grouping up there wouldn't have to be any split alternate paths at that point. Honestly it's not that hard to figure out.

The thing with Bonnie and Tavia being in the episode is that they could just be new characters to any who haven't played the DLC but are pla

  • Why would Clementine's group meet the people who didn't go with Tavia? Seems like Carver's community is pretty far away from their camp.

  • Im actually glad I never bought 400 days. unless the characters appear in future episodes the whole bridging the gap between seasons was pointless.
  • Everyone is heading to Wellington. Probably the ones who didn't go with Tavia are going to Wellington and bump into Clem's group. Both groups are going to Wellington and so they work together.

Yeah that seems likely I mean after Tavia found those pictures at the gas station and they decided to not go they probably eventually just moved on I mean it IS like 800+ Days later at this point who knows where they might've wondered off to.

  • As far as I'm concerned 400 days was officially deemed useless with this episode. No reason whatsoever to buy it if you are thinking about it.
  • I like it it's worth playing but the choices made in the episode with each character and why they ultimately decide to go to Carver's camp is clever and makes sense. They had so much opportunity with this. Like say some of their personalities or outlook on things might've been different depending on if they go with Tavia or stick together on their own. Telltale really had something here and unless Episode 4 fixes that they dropped the ball with this one.

  • Yeah man, it's not that I don't agree with you but rather i see why they wouldn't do it. I obviously wanted more clarity and story from the 400 days characters but I guess they really couldn't do it within the time frame that they had. I do hope the characters you DIDNT bring with you serve some purpose and that we can actually see Nate and Eddie again. I wouldnt be surprised if these guys were killed off like Roman was.

HOWEVER, characters from 400 days will appear regardless of you owning it or not. They easily could have given Shel, Becca and the others at very least a few more lines, but NO, this idiot new writer ruined their characters.
  • There was pretty much no point in 400 Days, as of now. Seeing the people who went with Tavia for a brief moment is not worth it, especially since they're all asshole guards now.
If they all appear again in E4 and/or E5, fine.

And I don't think the "Eddie is on the E4 screen" is a valid argument, as far as I'm concerned, those models are just placeholders.
Doug and Carley are on the left and right side and one of the Save-lots-bandits is behind Clem. I doubt any of those characters will appear in the episode.

Episode 4: Eddie's Camp. People who didn't go to Howes are there.
Tavia and 400 Days People seek revenge.

    Episode 4, 400 Days.

Could totally not happen, but I can totally see it happening. Maybe an actual HUB. Where you could talk to EVERY person.
  • Bonnie was the only reason to play 400 days. It shows Bonnies story and how Tavia got people to Carvers group.
As for Eddie, unlike the others in the preview photo, he is clearly visible with Clem. The others are blacked out on purpose.

  • I see Tavia being an antagonist. Her, along with Vince, Russ and some of the others will attack the cabin survivors.
Shel, Becca and Wyatt are rational and will probably escape. That's how Wyatt reunites with Eddie.

  • 400 Days may not have (yet) contributed much to Clem's story, but I feel it contributed a lot to the TWD universe, by showing other parts of this fucked up zombie world.
  • Except for the fact that every other model is a silhouette and Eddie is CLEARLY depicted on the front. If it's just a placeholder than why even bother putting him there in the first place? Why did they not make him a silhouette like the others?

  • As a standalone story, I think 400 Days is enjoyable in its own right. But I still think it'd be a shame if all their stories ended in a handful of cameos.
