Alvin was bleeding all over and was unconscious for most of the episode, he received a way worse beating than Kenny did. He could barely walk too so that's something.
I wasn't disappointed with Alvin because there was justification for him being like that (Carver hates him) but Nick not doing anything sucked. He better pull his weight in episode 4.
The only part I didn't like about this episode was when it ended, and Alvin. I mean, it kinda felt "We need to get rid of this guy so we'll … morejust make him stay here for bullshit reasons" and that disappointed me, honestly. Kenny suffered MUCH worse beating and he could go with the group, Alvin's reaction felt cheap to me "yeah my face is swollen so I'm going to get revenge, who cares about my wife and child, you're going to take care of them huh ?"..... I was like, really ? You'd rather get killed here, not even being sure to be able to kill Carver than go and protect your wife ? Come on.
No hubs ? ... Well, it might still not be up to Season 1's level of exploring but there was quite a bit of it in this episode. I must say I was kind of satisfied with it , wouldn't complain about a bit more of course (expected Carver's settlement to be bigger than that, to see more people). Let's hope there'll be some more in the next ones !
Overall the series is still enjoyable, but there are several questionable decisions Telltale has made that I'm not in agreement with.
1. The group relies way too much on Clem. I know she is a tough ass 11 year old girl, but some of the situations the group volunteers her for are just completely ridiculous. For instance, in Season 2 we have Clem conducting reconnaissance with binoculars, scouting the bridge with Luke, and eventually fixing a goddamn wind turbine all by herself. In Episode 3, Clem pretty much single handedly gets the group out of the prison by herself. Mind you, this is all happening while Clem is surrounded by a handful of able bodied men who just sit around and watch as Clem does all these dangerous/important jobs (why these adults put a 11 old girl in charge of some of these tasks is mind-boggling and really serves as a kind of immersion breaker for me).
2. Any kind of worthwhile hub that fans were accustomed to from Season 1 has pretty much been thrown out the window. Seeing as how there no significant hubs in TWAU either, it has become apparent that this is all a part of Telltale's new business formula. Episodes overall have gotten much shorter as well, with each episode averaging about 80-90 minutes in length. There is less dialogue, character development, and overall interaction with the environment as a whole either. These "games" are feeling more and more like scripted movies as time moves on...
3. Determinant characters such as Nick, Pete, Carlos, Alvin and the 400 days characters are pretty much non-existent as far as the story is concerned. For all the hype Telltale tried to stir about reminding people of their 400 days decisions, I'm left to wonder what was the point of all that? I basically got everybody to go with Tavia on my 400 days play-through and all I am treated to is a couple of lame ass lines from each person? Seriously wtf is this? As others have pointed out, Telltale's character formulas are really becoming obvious. Basically if a character plays any kind of determinant role in the story, they will pretty much for all intensive purposes just disappear from the story all together. You might see a few glances of them here and there (Can you say Prince Lawerence from TWAU?), but as a whole they are largely shoved to the side.
4. The voice actor who played Reggie did a pretty awful job. Just listening to him talk was painful...whoever thought it was a good idea for him to use a lisp in his voice really needs to be slapped. When Carter threw him off the roof-top, I found myself laughing for all the wrong reasons. What should've been a serious and solemn scene ended with me thinking "Haha at least I don't have to listen to that dam lisp one more time".
It's not all bad though. The series is still entertaining and I still want to see the end through.
Lol two of my favorite lines to ever come from a video game happened during this season of TWD though. Nick's impersonation of Carlos was hilarious and I could not stop laughing when Troy shouted out "Ahh she shot my dick!".
Things I didn’t like about In Harms Way. There were a few tiny things, but…
[Sad music…]
I miss Reggie more then Telltale missed t… morehe mark
When they made Clem work that turbine
I miss him more than 400 days missed the point
And that's an awful lot of cameos
And now, now they’ve gone away
And all I'm trying to say is
Carver’s death sucked, and I missed Luke
I needed him like Troy Dipshit needs patrolling school
He was terrible as a watch guard
I needed him like dear Nicky needed a bigger part
He’s way better than Troy Dipshit
And now, all I can think about is poor Carlos
And that shit on Jane’s face
Wash your face girl, you too Kennnny
Why does Telltale get to keep on making mean decisions?
I guess Carver’s death sucked
Just a little bit more than I missed Luke...
---
[shrugs] I liked everything else though :P
Clem going all Ezio on Carver's ass, shooting him the pistol while hanging from the pallets.
That's just not something Clem would do.
Other than that, I can't think of a single complaint. I didn't mind Carver's death. It felt very impactful. I thought the cameo's from 400 days was a nice touch, I didn't feel it was necessary for them to play a role simply because they were in the other game.
Russel's cameo felt more forced than Wyatt's! And, yeah, I know it was 2 years since the original introduction of Russel, but puberty clear… morely wasn't kind to his voice. (Did they have to switch voice actors IRL? I bet they did.) At least Vince's appearance made some kind of sense.
I was sad that Alvin sacrificed his life to allow Clem to escape. Now THAT was some sad stuff. I really liked Alvin. It was like Lee all over again.
I didn't like how they killed Carlos either. It was a stupid death. Personally, it should have been Sarita who got shot and Carlos bit. Sarita is pretty "Red Shirt" material.
That episode is one of the best in this Season so far. BUT the parts I don't like;
* 400 Days choices other than cameos really don't ma… moretter in this episode. Including Season One choices.
* Carver's death. I mean REALLY?! I thought he would be the best power maniac evil in this Season. But nope.
* Carlos's death. JESUS ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME?! At least I expected to be a memoriable death scene. Like sacrifising himself to the walkers for protecting Sarah.
* Also I didn't like the idea that they forced Clementine to do a amputation to Sarita.
* From the looks of it Luke is bitten. F**k my life. I don't know anymore. It'S gonna be Lee all over again.
* Alvin's death. Pete all over again.
Yea Luke is not bitten. He only showed pale skin and some sickness. Judging by what happened to Duck and Lee, he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did.
I actually enjoyed the way Carlos died, it was more realistic to me (Oh boo hoo Viner16, stop fucking whining about realism in a ZOMBIE GAME… more.)
The sad truth is, not everyone can die a hero. Sometimes it just happens, and there's no time to react to it. You can't stop, there can't be an epic 5 minute build up as you listen to his last words.
It just happens.
1) I didn't really like Carver's characterization. I was expecting him to be more calculating/intelligent and on the morally grey side of th… moreings, but nope. It felt like he was violent for the sake of being violent. That's alright I guess, but I personally don't find those kinds of antagonists interesting.
2) Not being able to interact with the other 400 Days characters besides Bonnie is upsetting. It's also kind of OOC in my opinion that Russell and Shel would be in Carver's community, considering all they've been through with tyrant camp leaders.
3) Some of the dialogue was written.. badly. It felt awkward at times listening to some characters speak.
Anyways, don't get me wrong, I liked the episode, but it had a few flaws.
Jane and Molly use the same character model, but with a different texture. Tavia uses the same model as Katcha, but a different texture and head model. Shel uses Lilly's model, but with a different texture. If you pay attention to their facial structures and body style, its fairly obvious.
Anyways, I felt the same. Reggie was a pointless character, and I believe the 400 days characters were rushed and underused. Its as if they were simply added at last minute or something.
I wish I could have put a bullet in that fat black cow Tavia.
-Reggie felt pointless. Plus his voice acting was pretty bad.
-Carver died too early. I wanted to know more about his character.
-… moreThe 400 days characters (excluding Bonnie and Tavia) only had brief cameos. I was hoping they'd play a bigger role.
-Jane seems like a carbon copy of Molly.
(Carlos death) Who in Carver's group shot Carlos and why?I mean when there hundred's of walker's attacking your camp, they decide to shoot Carlos instead?
We never know the story about Alvin killing George , It is like they dump this idea
I think I would have liked the 400 days characters to be more part of the story. Not anything major, but the ability to talk to them would have been nice. Only Whyatt and Russ (and Bonnie) went with Tavia for me, and it was nice to see them again, but it would have been cool to interact with them more. This is partially because it was hyped up to be important on the Telltale FB-page etc.
Thinkingt about it and reading about it on the forums, some hubs would've been nice. I guess carver's camp wasn't really the place for it though. Hope we get some in the next episode. I loved them in S1 just chilling (well..) around with Lee and talking to everybody. S2 feels more like a tv-series, actually, a bit more directed.
However, still a great game and a very good epiosde none the less.
I agree. I feel Tavia and some of the 400 days characters who survive the walker attack on the store will appear later, possibly as Antagonists. I can see it now:
Tavia, Vince, Russel and the others that were on the roof will hunt them down.
Reggie's voice acting was bad enough to take me out of the episode whenever his mouth was open. Honestly, it felt like they just pulled some… more random guy off the street and asked him to read the lines into a mic.
I'm expecting the 400 days characters other than Bonnie to have a more interesting role to play later on. If they don't, then wow, what a waste.
No hubs. Again. Expected.
I wish Carver had survived to have more of a role in the season, but now I'm half-wondering if our villain from now on is going to be Tavia seeking revenge.
I personally feel that Reggie and the 400 days characters were probably added into the episode at last minute, or else they wouldn't have been rushed. While Tavia and the others were more expanded and had normal Voice overs, these characters didn't.
One thing. Reggie´s voiceacting. So painful to hear.I was kinda glad that he died.i thought: Finnaly i dont have to hear that voice. + 400days characters
I didn't like how there was little to no explanation to how Carver's camp came to be. Where did everyone get ak-47s? What prevented everyone from turning Carver into swiss cheese when he does something bad? Also when the horde came, why didn't they just stay at the camp and help kill the walkers? It seems like a better idea than to go into the horde while the people are shooting from the rooftop.
It's like if 400 Days went to asshole camp.....good thing my 400 days group stayed their camp and didnt go with Tavia...im sure they will be in Episode 4 or 5.....right?
Well, yeah. Carver's death. Too soon, but I'm not mad. I think there will be more interesting episodes coming soon and Tavia will be next villian. Second, 400 days characters. Agree, I think there will be more interaction with them. And am I only one noticed that Mike looks like Lee? I mean, I just saw him and I thought OMG he'll be the second Lee and Clem gonna be into him as father figure. Mike was way too unexplored in this episode.
1- Lack of gameplay being the primary one. And this time it was worse than ever. For most of this episode I held the controller only in my right hand needing only to tap the button for my dialogue choices.
2- Troy. I know you were supposed to hate him, but man I HATED him.
3- The 400 Days protagonists were pretty much extras. I was looking forward for months to be sassy towards Becca if she tried to annoy Clementine. Instead all of them were pretty much there so you'll feel like you done something in 400 Days. Such a waste, especially since most of the 400 Days protagonists were great characters and were pretty much wasted in this episode. I really, really hope there's still a chance they'll make a reappearance and have at least some sort of impact on things to come. Again, this is the main thing that really, really annoyed me about the episode. Especially since I was mainly looking forward to seeing the 400 Days characters have more of an involvement.
Doesn't hurt to mention my computer is badly damaged. So while I was playing the episode I was afraid that at any moment my computer would just die. It did actually, on the worst of moments too. When Kenny killed Carver. Was quite pissed. When I finished the episode I even thought it the worst episode of TWD series to date. I replayed it last night though and now I don't think that, I really enjoyed it. I had my problems with the episode but it overall was a solid one. Just hope that we can have more moments where we can walk around. This time more than ever it was much, much worse.
Agree with most of all these points, especially Reggie. I didn't laugh at his death though. Think that is a biiit messed up to laugh at. I always thought the delivery of his lines was pretty poor even in the first clip we saw of him a couple of weeks back. "Hello who are you?" Sounded like he literally was reading a script and not trying to sound like a character. That's the type of voice acting I expect in the rehearsal stage, not the final performance. Glad it wasn't just me who thought that.
Overall the series is still enjoyable, but there are several questionable decisions Telltale has made that I'm not in agreement with.

Disagree on Carlos's death. Not everyone gets to go out in a blaze of glory. It happened to people all the time in the comics and the TV show, people just suddenly died.
I agree on Alvin's death, I was irritated but at least Nick is still alive.
That episode is one of the best in this Season so far. BUT the parts I don't like;

The fact that you barely see any of the compound. There was so much opportunity there. At least TTG isn't afraid to slap Clementine around a bit (literally). That's not a good thing, but shying away from that is like sugar-coating how bad this world really is.
Dude, the VA doesn't play the game before you, as far as he knows he was stopping Carver from shooting someone then something terrible would've happened. His last few lines are just 'NO CARVER WAIT CARVER WAIT!' and seeming like such a nice guy through his lines I wouldn't doubt it. He had no clue what was coming, stop giving him such fucking hell.
I seriously wanted Clem to respond to Carver with something like "Go fuck yourself" after he started comparing Clem to him near the end...
Although i'm not a GIANT fan of Clem swearing, moments like that i'd find necessary.
Point of Reggie was to show Carver is fucking insane.
Carver died earlier than it was expected, but I don't think it is a bad thing.
400 days characters are jokes, but what else were they supposed to do with them now? They can still show up later.
They needed similiar character and maybe they are saving Molly for later?
-Reggie felt pointless. Plus his voice acting was pretty bad.
-Carver died too early. I wanted to know more about his character.
-… moreThe 400 days characters (excluding Bonnie and Tavia) only had brief cameos. I was hoping they'd play a bigger role.

What gets me, is they went through all the trouble to make Carver the antagonist. What if they make Tavia that black-and-white antagonist everyone wants? That'll be a kick in the shin...
I see what you mean. Episode 4 will be very different, and I don't know if it can live up to the previous episodes, because there isn't much to expect.
Not only that but my Russel, having been dragged along with Nate involuntarily, stating immediately that Tavia was fucking crazy and that everyone but their group was fucking crazy, would NOT have hung around with Carver or his group. He would've broken out or atleast tried with Luke and them, Reggie could've mentioned them or something, they could've included the 400 days characters in sparing ways like Bonnie saying that so and so is with her and staying behind, keeping some others busy or something, making sure they don't crack down on em', I don't know, something less useless and more including? it would've been one line of dialogue. This guy named Russel and this woman named Shel that I know are going to stay behind with Carvers group while we sneak out, they'll make sure we're not followed. That kinda thing, it can be good writing.
Not only that, but at the end Clem could've been like 'No Jane Troy's okay!' Or something, and then she'd shoot him and noone would believe a word Clementine said about him not being an asshole and it being a sort of necessary evil act.
That would've been cool writing, maybe not the most realistic, but far better than what they did with him already it's like a spy not knowing when to quit the act and getting executed at the end of a war by his own country.. They should've had him stay behind and get killed by Tavia or something and all of it be discovered later.
I wish there were more outcomes that weren't decided for me, or had more weight to them. The whole episode seemed more like an uphill roller… more coaster ride with a short drop at the end. I wanted to see more of Camp Carver, I would have loved to have more time to explore and actually have some influences with the other characters, maybe even with Carver himself.
I also think the zombie attack in the expansion, near the beginning, wasn't necessary at all. Either that, or give Troy some good qualities when he saved Clem, and potentially Kenny and Mike too. I was expecting him to have the "tough attitude" when in front of Carver, hitting Clem and being the enforcer whenever possible while under Carver's supervision. but there could have been a huge potential for a "white imitating black" kind of person here, someone who can overstep his bounds accidentally even; but we got none of that. We had another asshole character who's only purpose was … [view original content]
Or had Troy survived the breach, he'd tell Clem and the others who died BECAUSE they let the horde inside. Wouldn't it be amazing if you heard that, not only did Tavia get killed, but also Shel, leaving the young Becca with a huge hatred for Clementine for starting the long series of events that ended with the outbreak? What if the survivors of that group, with all the guns and hostility towards Clem's group, discovered and blamed each other for what happened to their one amazing shelter?
This, I would love to see... But.... I doubt it. After playing Ep3, I felt like I overestimated TTG. I'm not so excited for the next chapter if this was what all the Carver hype amounted to.
Not only that, but at the end Clem could've been like 'No Jane Troy's okay!' Or something, and then she'd shoot him and noone would believe … morea word Clementine said about him not being an asshole and it being a sort of necessary evil act.

I don't use to care about the length of the episodes, but I felt this one really rushed.
Based on the importance that some characters and the place have in the 400 Days, a little more time to explore or stay in that enviroment to see more about how it works and how more characters (mainly those from 400 Days) living there feel about it, I think it would be better.
And Nick could have more participation, because my impression is that it doesn't make a great difference if he is alive or not in this episode.
