Clementine's Fighting Prowness...

Near the beginning of Ep3, didn't anyone else find it a bit odd how she had the option to use a sledge hammer? Sure, she didn't lift it very high, but weren't we told that she had to be dependent on keeping walkers out of reach? Using her environments and staying smart in order to survive? How come she's now swinging a hatchet right up at their heads like Molly, or Lee, instead of how she previously had to attack their legs in order to bring the zombies to a more reachable position?

Isn't she supposed to be... y'know, a kid? I know, it's underestimating her ability to fight, but that's one of the greatest character strengths she had. She's weak. She's a child. She shouldn't be able to fight multiple walkers with only a small hatchet. We've seen her take on one zombie with a combat knife before, and she had to use a picnic table to trap the zombie before dispatching it. she had to use a rake to keep the zombie away in the shed before being able to kill it.

Now she can kill 3 zombies, and hack away someone's arm in two swings, despite being only a child? Seriously?

  • I was fine with most of the action scenes up until Ep3's finale... It was like controlling Lee all over again.

  • Yeah, but I don't know just how realistic (yeah, yeah, in a game about zombies, sue me) that explanation is. It will do, for now. :/

  • I liked it. I just hope I get to kick the crap out of a living character, and not just a zombie next time.

There hasn't been a scene so far I didn't believe an 11 year old could pull off, if as awesome as Clem
  • Well, evidently, she has secretly been taking Krav Maga classes. Well played, Clementine. Well played.

That didn't seem too freaky to me. Sarita's arm was pretty slim, Clem's clumsy as fuck when she handles that sledgehammer and walkers are walkers. They're just soft and easy to kill. Honestly, the only scene where she seemed too strong for her age is when she kicked Winston away in ep1, and even that's somewhat justifiable.
  • Those were some pretty crazy moves in the episode's finale. She even did, like, a full spiral upper cut from one zombie to the next. Impressive, Clem.

? The Sledgehammer was hilarious. You can tell by her shoulders/the beginning of the swing she was actually aiming higher with the hammer but epic failed and hit the knees instead. It was glorious and definitely a nod to her lack of strength. I'm actually surprised this moment is one of the ones called out for unrealistic since it seemed to be put in as a reminder and for lulz/during a desperate moment.

Sarita's arms are almost as thin as Clementine's and she's probably one of the slimmest, if not the slimmest character in the entire series, and everytime she kills a walker she still has that whole "Damnit my weapon's stuck arghhhhh" thing going on that Lee (and pretty much any adult-- including Sarita during the "Save Sarah" action at the end where Sarita & Bonnie were being troopers) has not had to deal with.

Edit: As I think about it, honestly, I think her strength to this point has never been misrepresented. She either smartly attacks joints, fingers or accidentally does so. If I found anything unrealistic it would be her endurance. I know kids can be scrappy and bounce back and are often underestimated from their falls, but... Butt of a Rifle, falling and going pang from Mike having to let go and quick-gripping the emergency ladder-- washing ashore for god knows how long after a River when she previously struggled underneath a much stronger man and still having the strength to fight off a dog as large as she is without food or 'real' rest. Not to mention all the climbing she had to do in this episode alone. Most girls can't do chin-ups, let alone that extensive climbing.

Sure she's in a setting where these are things that are practical for her to learn/get good at, but there's no evidence she's done so. So at most you can give benefit of the doubt and go "Christa taught her"/brought her endurance up for climbing. But you'd think it'd get a mention.

On the scene with the sledge hammer you can also chose to use the ladder to attack the walker which seems easier for a child to use due to its lighter weight.
  • The only thing I feel she couldnt do is hack of Sarita's arm in two swings. Everything else was either against walkers or she seems to struggle with.
  • Using the sledgehammer was pretty absurd, but keep in mind we're over a year, almost two, into the apocalypse. That's a lot of time to pick up some experience.

So are we gonna get one "lol no way Clem is that strong" every time an episode is released, now?
It's been happening since EP5 of last season, when she dragged Lee through the horde.

Like someone said, she was aiming higher when she swung that sledgehammer, but hit the lowest part of the walker because she couldn't lift it enough. She hit like, the walker's ankle, and then lost balance.
  • I was so hype when she pulled that ish off. Real G shit.

  • Its even funnier then whats its supposed to be cause im israeli xD
