This Needs to be Said (About Luke)
In my opinion, Luke is completely and utterly useless. I honestly don't understand why so many people are crazy about him. Over three episodes now, he has done literally nothing to help anyone. I think there is still hope for his character, but so far he hasn't really shown anything. No way on earth is he a guardian figure to Clem, and he is certainly not replacing Lee.

I don't necessarily dislike Luke, I just don't understand why so many people are in love with his character.
Either he is incredibly healthy, incredibly lucky, or not bitten, just very exhausted.
I was looking for why you feel differently. And once again, I'm not saying that I dislike Luke. I just don't understand why he is so loved.
I'm not trying to be offensive to what anyone else thinks of him, but the guy has seriously done nothing for the entirety of the season so far.. other than him showing us that he can not protect Clem, or really anyone else for that matter. He means well, but nothing he does ever works out.
1. He successfully leads the group out of Carver's camp. Without him, the cabin group would've never gotten away in the first place.
2. Luke saves Clem's life in the forest. If it wasn't for him and Pete, then Clementine would've been eaten alive.
3. Defended her from the group and apologized when he failed because he was outnumbered, but the group was talking about killing Clem while he convinced them not to.
4. Convinced the group to let Clementine out of the shed. Remember when Luke opened the shed after the walker attacked? Well if you listened to the kitchen conversation, he was arguing that they let Clem go and apologize for being assholes.
5. Made Nick apologize for almost shooting Clem and and being "aggro."
6. Fed her and took the time to listen to her story and sympathize with her. I believe it was best for Clem to talk about her trauma rather than repress it.
7. Went out to look for Clem when she went missing. Remember when Rebecca said that she tried to convince Luke to not go look for her, but he couldn't leave her out there.
8. Saves Nick when he's in the shed by clearing the area of walkers and helping him. Nobody in the group cared if they left Nick behind, but Luke went back for him.
9. He's giving Clem first hand experience by giving her tasks while still being there for support. For example, when he told Clem to climb the tower so she can see if anyone was following them. He said he would catch her if she fell and tried to get her mind off of the fear of falling by telling something about himself. Remember when Clem almost fell? He was worried about Clem and was ready to catch her. Kind of like when a kid first starts riding a bike and a parent is right behind them so they can catch them if they just so happen to fall.
10. After the group was taken, Luke follows a moving vehicle for an entire 24 hours ON FOOT. Luke goes without food, water or sleep for days just to save the group. Luke getting caught was what ultimately convinces Bonnie to spring them out of Carver's camp.
11. After Kenny punches Carver, Luke disarms him just in time. I'm willing to bet if Luke wasn't there to disarm him right after Kenny's punch, Carver would've just turn back round and shot Kenny.
2. I forgot about that for some reason.
3. It doesn't really matter, he still tossed her in the shed and didn't even try to sneak her some help later on.
4. After Clem nearly gets killed by a walker. Too little too late.
5. He doesn't make Nick apologize, Nick does that on his own. Even if he did tell Nick to apologize.. does that really have anything to do with his usefulness? That would be more along the lines of him being a nice guy.
6. Again, this is just him being a nice guy. Doesn't really show anything about his overall usefulness.
7. But he doesn't find her, or help the situation in any sort of way. The guy if full of good intentions, but it never really results in him having success.
8. I highly doubt the group would have just abandoned Nick. Anyway, I guess he does clear the shed of walkers.. though there were only two of them and one of them was on the ground not even moving. I guess it counts as something, but it really isn't impressive or anything.
9. Just him being a nice guy, not actually being useful. If he wanted to be useful, he should have just climbed the ladder himself.
10. Getting into the camp was fairly impressive, but it didn't even matter because he got himself caught, which resulted in Kenny almost getting beaten to death. He didn't help the situation, he only made it worse.
11. Well geez, I would hope he would SOMETHING there. I mean, Clem already shot the guy (or jumped on him) and Kenny socked him in the face causing him to practically fall right into Luke's arms.
Other than him and Pete saving Clem back in E1, Luke hasn't done anything of significance to prove his usefulness. He has largely messed up more than anything else.
Just a wild theory, but you do go on about how Kenny is unarguably the best human being to ever grace the screen of the Walking Dead game, so it seems like a possibility.
I have never acted like "Kenny is unarguably the best human being to ever grace the screen of the Walking Dead game". I have also never said that Kenny has guardian status over Clem. If you read through the thread, I stated the exact opposite. I don't think Clem has a guardian figure at all. I don't think she will have one ever again.
As an aside, Luke presents pretty much zero challenge to Kenny ;)
He survived a whole day in the wild(wild animals, walkers) while finding his way back to Carvers camp, without any food, sleep and probably water, even if they didn't outright state the last one. He hid himself long enough from Carvers relatively competent Guards with automatic guns to monitor their movement and to start planning an escape. He only got caught because he got desperate for food and took a bigger risk than he needed to.
This may actually be his main character flaw: Pete said he always beats him at poker, Nick told a story about Luke's 'great plan' and how they were broke two monts later, he mentioned enjoying jumping between rooftops(although that's less risky if you know what you're doing) and now this.
However, he seems to be aware of this, as he admits this mistake and also scolds Clementine in s2e2 if she attacks the standing walker instead of the sitting one. Luke could deal with the Walker much better size-wise and did say only moments before that she was "valuable", so there was zero need for her to show off. When Clem did something just to prove herself multiple times in s1e4, you as Lee had the option to remind her that wasn't ok.
In the begining of s2e2 he was imo actually the most competent Character who wasn't bit. Definetly better than Dr. Genius and itchy trigger-finger over there.
In s2e1 he takes time to know her istead of locking her away(Carlos) or blindly trusting her(Sarah, maybe pete?). I do have to admit that he was a little susceptable to Clems [sad eyes], altough almost everyone who wasn't dead set on shooting her was.
So all in all, while he isn't a total badass like Lee, I consider him Competent enough. Clementine doesn't _desperatly_ need another Guardian, but having no-one to turn to would be bad for any 11year-old girl in a apocalypse, even for her. He may not be perfect, but he's the only one alive i see fit for that job right now.
