Episode 3 Easter Egg

I don't know if you guys noticed this, but I think the music that was playing behind the Howes CD Clem put on the speaker was the music from Bosco's Inconvenience Store in Sam and Max.

  • There's also that "World's Best Boss" mug on Carver's desk.

Anyone else notice any other easter eggs?

  • that music gave me chills right after the episode, if it's from sam and max that makes it a little less fuckin creepy :P
  • there was a tape on his desk that was from crawford
  • Can I see a pic? and if you can't find one, where/When does it appear?

  • Guys!

I don't know if you've noticed. but there was a time in the episode when the walkers invade the store where you, Kenny and that black guy are. the last walker that tries to get you laughs at you...
  • I will find a pic right now :)

  • Not exactly an Easter Egg, but a little reference that I found both cool and morbid.

When Tavia is talking to Hank on the walkie talkie, she calls the people in the yard "the prisoners" before quickly correcting herself and saying "the new people". This line really sent a shiver down my spine because the term "new people" was first coined by Pol Pot and his communist regime after they took over Cambodia in the 70's. They used the term to refer to those who "strayed from the flock" including anyone who openly talked shit on the government, lived in cities or just looked like they were smart (read: wore glasses).

Millions of these "new people" were herded out of the cities and into rural camps to be "rehabilitated". Between being starved, tortured, worked to death and getting hacked apart by the thousands in the Killing Fields, almost none of them survived.

I don't know if the reference was intentional or a coincidence, but it was creepy as fuck and really drove home the importance of escaping from Carver's little concentration camp.
  • You know who they didn't put in the episode?JUICEBOX!I guess there wasn't enough time to interact with him so they got rid of him...fuck...

and it seems like the tape was put there for a reason. like that wanted us to see it.

  • Jesus Christ... I new about Pol Pot and all that, but I hadn't heard of that "new people" thing until just now. I'll never hear that line the same way again. I knew Carver's place was as bad as they come, but now it's just plain creepy to me since you've thrown out this disturbingly appropriate parallel.

  • Whoa. Either they just wanted to put some clutter on his desk and didn't have time to create new assets, or maybe Carver (or someone in his society) has some connection to Crawford?

  • Definitely. I only saw the double entendre on a second playthrough. I think the North Koreans and Vietnamese have/had similar systems with different names, but I think the Khmer Rouge were the only ones who used the term "new people", which makes the implications VERY disturbing. If "the yard" didn't scream re-education camp before, it sure does now.

  • Thank you for saying this! I'm positive it was meant to be there. Who would have had the tape after Lee but it in the Anna Correa file back in Season 1 Episode 4? Molly? Maybe Vernon? The speculation is killing me. I think it may be a proof of life sign for Molly or perhaps Lee. Molly seems more plausible because Kenny and/or Clementine mentions her in this episode as well (when he mentioned the bell tolling trick).

  • There was a poster of APPLES and other various fruits in the compound where the group was staying. However, no Juice box himself. Signifying, Juicey might of gone back to the ways of the old. And is living with his apple friends in the trees.
