About Luke's Character Development
Luke was as many would put it before Ep3, a one-dimensional character. Some one that feels too perfect. And when Ep3 came out, every one hated that he screwed up and that he was worthless. Heck even I was saying the same thing. But I realized I made myself look like a hypocrite.
Telltale's showing that Luke is not perfect. When we first meet him and travel with him throughout the first two episodes we barely knew much about him. He was a nice guy, respectable, humane guy. He just felt too one-dimensional, like something was missing to develop him. But we can then see his flaws since episode one. When Clem admits killing the dog, we can see he hates killing the living(even animals), this is also shown before Carver's demise. He just cant bring himself to kill anything but walkers. When it comes walkers, you can see enjoys fighting them when confident enough.
Plus he's known to be capable of keeping secrets. One's hinting that Carlos done something before in Ep2, and when he discovered Nick killed Walt's friend, he was so insistent over keeping it a secret. Plus we discovered another flaw; in Ep3 he was ready to give up after being captured and was even willing to leave others behind if they go that same night. Plus we discovered he's capable of screwing up when getting caught, and can get careless when not focusing properly. And he also has the tendency to disappear at the wrong times as of late.
But he does have a lot of determination, as discovered that he tried to catch up and save the group with a single rest. That's what I admired. He really wanted to save the others despite the risks and position he's in.
Plus we discovered that Luke and Carver used to butt heads on the leadership role for the community. And the fact that he and Bonnie knows each other.
Anyway, I'm sure Luke will have plenty of character development by the end of the season. And still be likable. Just try to cut him some slack, he's only human.

He *knew* that he was headed into a madman's prison camp filled with armed guards patrolling everywhere. He *knew* that the chances of success were slim. He had the perfect opportunity to just leave it all behind and just move on. Carver wasn't going to pursue him anymore. He was off scott-free. Instead he walked back into the enemy territory to save the people he cared about.
I don't give a damn about him trying to steal some food and getting caught. He earned my respect the moment he showed back up.
Where would he have been able to take a quick nap? Inside the compound, where armed guards were constantly patrolling? Outside the compound where a giant hoard of zombies was roaming around?
Luke had no option but to try and bail his friends out as quickly as he could. He stole the food because he needed to keep his strength up during the escape. He got caught because he was careless because he was sleep deprived as fuck. And he acknowledges that. Which made me respect him more. He knew what his limits were. Which is more than I can say for Kenny.
And honestly, if the shoe were on the other foot, you *know* Kenny would have advocated leaving Luke behind. All that bullshit talk from Kenny about how he "always knew that guy was a flake." Well, he came back, Kenny.
