Luke Is Freaking Me Out

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
Is it just me, or did anyone else get some strange vibes from Luke?

At first, I thought he was totally cool, refusing to hold me because he thought I was bitten; it was aggravating he didn't believe me, but realistic that he was skeptical and overly cautious. I'd done the same, if in that situation. Then, Luke actually engaged me in conversation at the table, and expressed a genuine interest about my past as Clem. No one but him seemed to care about Clem's past in the entire game. He kind of reminded me of an older brother. Then things got weird.

When we had to cross the bridge and he asked me to come, I was wondering why not another adult? It seemed more logical to ask someone who wasn't just a young girl. But he asked, and even said something about Clem being more than just a little girl, or whatever. Creepy, if you ask me. Then he turned Nick down from coming. Of course, Nick's a horrible shot, so I didn't think too much on that.

When it came time to speak with the guy on the bridge, he suggested I do the talking. Me! A little girl. I started to get the feeling I was the one taking care of him, and not the other way around. After the bridge guy died, my perception of Luke changed. I started to feel like the little sister with an older brother who wasn't playing with a full deck of cards, if you understand. I thought maybe there was something different about him, but it turned out there wasn't. He was just a little boy in a big boy's body. Why in the world was he so stuck on Clem?

Then the dinner-table event occurred. I chose to sit with Kenny because...well, I knew him better than these survivors I had just met, and I wanted to catch up with him. But as I walked toward Kenny's table, Luke gave me one of the most pathetic looking pouts I'd ever seen. I, at that moment, wanted to reconsider and wished the game would let me go sit with him and the others instead. But that guilt passed as I talked with Kenny, trying to figure out about his new gal. Not that I'm going to get into it, but I was very surprised and slightly disgusted Kenny had moved on. He had just lost his entire family, and he found someone new. I was engaged with Kenny, when out of the blue Luke sits down. I sighed out loud, literally. Wth is he doing, I had thought. Then he and Kenny get into it, and I'm just watching the game with the dumbest expression. It was like Luke thought he had exclusive rights to Clementine and no one could talk to her without his permission. Like he was trying to tell Kenny to back of because she was his, and it was staying that way. I just couldn't even deal anymore.

I still like Luke, but now I feel uncomfortable by a video game character, for the first time in my life.

He gives off pedophile vibes to me.

  • people thought he was bit at first BLAH BLAH but he wast, he was just hungry and tired BLAH BLAH BLAH

but I still get this weird feeling from him. like he is hiding something -_-
  • You're giving to much thought about the dinner scene, if you sat with the cabin group then Kenny will switch tables too, it doesnt mean they're being protective of Clem, it just means that they're trying to get to know each other. The sad puppy eyes Luke gave was kinda creepy though, how can he not see that Clem wants to sit with an old friend?

The bridge scene weirded me out too though, Carlos was right on this one, she is just a little girl, im sure Luke could've picked any of the other members from the group.
  • "When we had to cross the bridge and he asked me to come, I was wondering why not another adult?"
... So you'd just want to watch while the other characters do the talking and all the interesting stuff, what?
  • So you'd just want a kid to do all the dangerous tasks while the adults sit back and relax? Nice logic.

  • PLEASE THE BRIDGE THANG WAS JUST NECESSARY
All the Matthew things and stuff, it was important that Clem saw it happening

"When we had to cross the bridge and he asked me to come, I was wondering why not another adult?"

No one else could go. Carlos had Sarah, Alvin had Rebecca and Nick was not mentally fit to do this. Luke trusted Clem to help him because she had already proved how strong she is. Besides at this point Clem is the group's official jack of all trades.

"When it came time to speak with the guy on the bridge, he suggested I do the talking."

Because like he said the stranger wouldn't shoot a little girl.

    "Then the dinner-table event occurred."

But Kenny does the exact same thing if you sit with Luke. He pouts and then switches tables causing the same arguement.

"He gives off pedophile vibes to me."

  • Doesn't give me pedo vibes but the only thing that pisses me off is his "I think I should be the one to look after Clem because I've known her for a week" thing. All the other things on the list are pretty ok to me. I may not favor Luke but he ain't no pedo.

Maybe he wants to save Clem for later. She is slowly turning into a beautiful woman afterall, thats prey mentality yo!
  • Maybe Luke's just worried about Kenny's mental health, since he knows about Duck and Katjaa and stuff and that's why he is so protective against Clem :|

  • Clementine isn't just a little kid. C'mon, Clem did a 3-hit combo in the end of episode 3.
  • He cares about Clem. I mean, if you care about someone, you wouldn't just entrust her safety into a stranger you just met, even if that stranger had known Clementine for a long time. Additionally, that stranger is Kenny. I would never ever ever ever ever trust Kenny with anything with his hothead and honestly Kenny freaks me out this season... a lot.
So yeah, I don't mind the whole taking care of Clem thing

  • Yeah but he should give Clem the freedom of who she wants to be with. It's not his choice. She's known Kenny longer and might feel safer with him like my Clem does. Luke has no say in this or any right to protect her just because he's known her for a week.

  • I could point out all the reasons I don't like or trust Luke but I've done that plenty of times in other threads. In my eyes he hasn't got the right to be taking care of Clem but he acts like he does. Kenny has had a family, is willing to go great lengths to protect his family and knows what needs to be done. Kenny is the only person I trust with Clem asides from Christa

  • I know. It's really up to the player to decide who Clementine trusts more. I'm just justifying Luke's actions. And honestly, everyone and anyone have the right to take of Clem. Everyone needs to watch each other's backs. That's the beauty of a group :D

  • But in the game, he hasn't really forced Clem to do anything... Like even in the ski lodge, when Luke and Kenny butted heads, Clem had the option to side with either of them (not that it mattered but whatever). And everyone has rights to protect anyone. That's how people save people. You don't need to really know a guy for a year or whatever to rescue him from falling off a building, you know. If you can protect someone, why not do it. Unless you're doing it against the person's wishes. Which Luke is not. Anyway, you're playing a visual novel, you're not Clem. So even if you don't think Luke should be doing what he does, doesn't mean Clem thinks the same.

  • I'm not saying that he shouldn't protect Clem, all I am saying is he believes he has the right to be her guardian. I didn't butt heads with Kenny in season 1 because he was protecting Clem but not trying to steal her away from Lee. Now I choose Kenny as Clem's guardian and Luke is getting in the way and trying to take her from Kenny. Anyone can protect her, I just want a father figure I can trust

You really think TT would write a pedophile character (one of the main characters i might add) in the game. What???

I don't even know why I'm writing a serious reply to this, but he's not a pedophile. I think he admires Clem because she's tough despite her age and has a cool personality, and he lets her do dangerous stuff because he doesn't want her to feel like she's being underestimated.
  • I had my doubts about him in episode 2, but since episode 3 I trust him 100% ;3

  • Jesus, pedo Luke again? There's nothing that even remotely indicates this. You're just grabbing a bunch of meaninless details and drawing crazy conclusions. Men can be nice to children without anything sick going on.
  • She's still a kid. Clem didn't ask to be put in any of the situations she ended up in, even though no one really did. Still, I feel like she still be regarded as a kid. She's not an adult, and she is just a kid. No matter how mature and extraordinary a child, she's still just a little girl who needs to be reminded it's okay not to be in charge of everything.

Clementine isn't just a little kid. C'mon, Clem did a 3-hit combo in the end of episode 3.

  • I still trust and like Luke, I just prefer to keep an eye on him. You never know. I liked Ben, too, and he turned out to be the most pathetic of all.

Luke's fucking weird and sneaky and hiding some shit but he's probably not a pedo. I only call him that sometimes to make people mad.
  • Are you serious? I play this as if I'm actually a part of the game. If in real life I was nominated to go to the bridge, I would not. It would be stupid for a little girl to play big girl for Luke's benefit.

  • Facepalm all you like. I have a right to my opinion. If you don't agree, that's cool. But I still say an adult should have crossed that bridge with Luke. Simply because Clem has no one it's okay to put her life in danger? Nice logic.

I didn't say he was a pedophile, sheesh. Is everyone so blind to the grey area? I just said he gives off the vibes. I've met plenty of people who've made me uncomfortable in real life, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily bad or anything. It's just my perception of them, is all.

  • There doesn't have to be anything to remotely indicate he's a pedophile. He gives off the vibes to me, and that's my opinion. I didn't say he was pedophile, but I have my suspicions about him. Pedophile or not, I'm keeping a close eye on him.
