What's with all the Season 2 hate?

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
I've noticed on these forums that a lot of people have been hating on season 2. I mean I'm not gonna act like I don't have my issues with season 2: like the length of the episodes and the fact that they killed off Carver too early, but I'm still satisfied with these episodes. A lot of people have been complaining about some the unexplained plot points. Well the season isn't over yet, so there's a huge possibility that those could be explained in the final two episodes. I'm a huge Telltale fan and I know they won't let us down. Is is as good as the first season? No, not by a long shot. But it's still very compelling. Yes, it has its issues but what game doesn't.

I'm enjoying it too - but it is a sequel to something that is pretty much considered a masterpiece by a lot of the forum. It's bound to be getting flak, a lot of which I do agree with despite still having a good time with the episodes each time around.

People want season 2 to be like season 1. In my opinion I am liking the season but they could use a lil work.

  • No, Telltale planned to make sequels well into the development of the first season.
  • It wouldn't have mattered what TTG did for season 2 people would still be complaining. I have enjoyed season 2 a lot, is it as good as season 1? No, but it's still bloody good.
  • Clearly you haven't done your research bobjackson..

  • That wasn't an opinion you were stating it as if it were fact.
  • Highly unrealistic expectations. People regard season one as masterpiece, so people expect the sequel to be just as good or even better.

  • Understand one thing, people will never be happy.

I see all the fans complaining about this Season's quality bringing up how good last season was. Have they forgotten Season 1 got criticized as well ? "Our choices don't matter". "Everyone dies". "You have to stay with Kenny even if you want to leave with Lilly".

There's always gonna be something people don't like and that's when the storm hits. I'm enjoying it too though Telltale could sure improve on some things.
  • Yeah, again, I do have my issues with this season, but unlike most other people, I'm able to get past them.

  • I love it, I really do love it.

But it does have issues. I still love it. But it has issues, and this is what I feared during the wait for Season Two.

I feel like this plotline should have been saved for 'Season Three' or something it feels like there's too large a gap between Season One and Two.

I mean it just begins with us with Christa and Omid and us as the players are left to just assume the two shadows Clementine saw on the outskirts of Savannah were them.

But to be fair I could see why it has such a large gap as the original writers have left and now the new writers have to somewhat re-create Clementine and old characters (mostly by getting rid of them like Christa and Omid or making them go through an unseen "change" like with Kenny) in order to make sure they don't ruin Season One by making the characters too..."out of character" (which Nick Breckon has already done once).
  • Why did I get downvoted on that?

Nothing negative can possibly come from the criticism. Worst case scenario they ignore it, best case scenario they take it into account when working on episode 4, 5, and other games.

Either way, it shouldn't bother you. You're assuming that the people raising their issues are doing so because they don't enjoy Season 2, but the two things aren't one and the same. Acknowledging the flaws of something that you enjoy is perfectly normal.

  • That was a silly thing to say, I wasn't aware school children were scientists, they have to research for school work :P

You are entitled to you opinion but if you say something like "people insisted so badly on making it happen that they've just went with it" there is a good chance people are gonna call you out for it.

  • The MAIN criticism is that the episodes are too short, and there is no chance to stop for a moment and talk to people like there was in season 1. I mean seriously, if telltale threw a few "Find a key" puzzles into the game, and maybe more hub areas where you can talk to the group and build relationships with the characters, the episodes would be a lot longer, and more involving of the player, for now though, it feels like we are watching a really short movie, and hitting the q button repeatedly every now and then.

Hey don't look at me, I don't dislike people. Yeah man it's nothing personal but if people say things like that without any evidence to back it up it annoys the crap out of me an a lot of other people. I have a lot of respect for the folks over at TTG and when people spread hearsay it's not fair on anybody.

Anyway, have a good day :)

  • Some people are objective ;)

Episode 3 is one of my favorite in the series but that doesn't mean there aren't overarching problems this season that the last two episodes could deal with.

People will never be satisfied. :/
