Although you could be right and he made it but the undead followed Clem and Sarita therefore Luke might lead alot of them away while Kenny and co focus on the ones that did not follow Luke.
Luke could be taken to long and Kenny and everyone else will have to make a decision to leave Luke or stay and rist everyones lives
I think the trailer was trying to mislead us, and Luke won't be missing in the same way he was missing in E3. He is probably scouting or clearing or something, with the intention of returning fairly quickly, and then is late in getting back.
Although I would find it funny if a recurring theme for every episode this season was WHERE THE FUCK IS LUKE.
