Amid the Ruins Teaser Trailer Breakdown

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
OK fellow enthusiasts, this is my first time actually starting a discussion, soooo:

*ahem*
A lot of people from what I've seen on the forum have been complaining about how the trailer at the end of episode 3 was "lacking" in getting them hyped. Fair enough, it might not be as big a slice of pie as we got at the end of episode 2, but personally I think it's just as tasty, if not more so. Why? You're asking yourself.
In the first few seconds we see Clem, Kenny, Rebecca, Bonnie, Mike and Jane(by her boots) beside an old looking brick wall (which I presume is the site of Parker's Run, the Civil War thing.) They're still covered in blood, so the scene must take place right after the escape from Carver's camp.
Next off, we see Clem picking up Sarah's damaged glasses. Notice that her rainbow jacket is now clean, and that she found it beside a place which has a chain-link fence and rusty barrels, turning out to be the "Sunshine Mobile Home Park" (so obviously NOT the Civil War site). Notice that it's got barbed wire on the top of the fence, meaning that either it is or was occupied by a group of survivors. (Might turn out to include Eddie...MAYBE).
Clem removes Kenny's bandage at the Civil War site (again, notice how they're clean, meaning that they've set up camp temporarily, maybe to wait for Luke > Kenny says "where the hell is Luke?"
Kenny probably gets an eye patch from the Civil War site (I visited a museum near the battle of Bull Run on a trip to the US a few years ago and they were selling them at the gift shop).
Rebecca might give birth at Parker's Run, forcing them to move on to seek a more secure location (trailer park) since they lack appropriate supplies and are being overrun by walkers.
Honestly, I think the teaser gives us plenty to chew on, we just need to let it stew a bit.

EDIT: Feel free to post your thoughts. This is just my interpretation of it.

  • That is actually a pretty good darn theory. I know I'm so badass now.
Where do you think Luke has got to?
  • The only thing that has me hyped for this episode is the Episode Selection slide. Though, I remember before A House Divided came out, the sneak peak or the trailer itself didn't get me hyped. The only thing that did was "I thought you were dead". A House Divided ended up being my favorite episode of the series, maybe Amid The Ruins can surprise me as well.
  • In the slide for episode 3, you see Rebecca and clem in some kind of barred room, with rebecca looking like she's going into labour.

I think - and I could well be wrong - that this was cut and left for episode 4: in one of the achievements for episode 4, we see walkers trying to get through some bars. It's not unreasonable to think a civil war museum would have some kind of mock prison, and I think she and clem might have to lock themselves in their to have the baby.
  • That's a really good theory. All I can say right now is that it will be an interesting episode that will most likely include a few things that we didn't see coming.
  • I find it really interesting that the group has been split in two. It's awesome because the cast of characters is getting quite large (and looks like it is going to get even larger) and it gives some of the characters a great chance to shine.

    Clem's current group is awesome:
Kenny and Rebecca have a really great dynamic, the way they argue with each other reminds me of Kenny/Lee, Kenny/Lilly in season 1.
Bonnie, Jane and Mike are great new characters who we will get chance to know a little better.
The only 2 characters mentioned to know where the civil war museum is are Luke and Carlos. With Carlos being dead and Luke in the other group, you'd think Clem's group would be lost. But it was MIKE who came up with the idea in the first place. So both groups are being led by someone who knows where to meet up, probably leading to an epic reunion.

I'm quite excited about the idea of the cast being split up and trying to find each other again. The show did it in a really good way, so I bet the game will too.
  • I must admit, reading your theory got me a bit eager to play it now.
  • I really can't wait until kenny gets his eyepatch. Arghh ima steal ye salt licks!!!

  • i hope for Christa to reappear being that Omid was into cvil war it would be a nice touch to see her here, hoping for Sarita and Sarah to survive this also.
  • I'm glad you pointed that out (Mike knows the location). it slipped my mind when I was typing the theory. The group being partly split might end up being a major plot point; the missing half ( Luke,etc... ) could meet Christa... What do you think?

  • Liked your theory but honestly I don't think it's really much help in thinking about the trailer.
Like previous episodes, the trailer is always inaccurate. They make it before they really finalise plans for the next episode. So, really, most of the stuff in the trailer won't even happen. :(
  • Saltlicks!

What my favourite word and when I was playing EP 3 and when you met Reggie and walked around in your prison yard Clementine was talking about something heavy if you interact with it... It looks heavy and me: Let me cause THE NEW SALTLICK for Kenny

Thank you and do you remember that thing at the begin of the day in Carvers community in the prison yard and it broke and felt down with a BAM and Jane was like damn... I got flashbacks and looked Kenny and thought... Do you remember that one little moment.

  • Lilly? Hmm... If she does appear, I would like to know her story. How did she make her way up north all the way from Georgia? Would be interesting if she was the boss of the "Eddie" survivors.

  • Good theory and the teaser was pretty good besides the fact that they added some bits that I didn't find that exciting... such as the "You need to get past that walker without attracting the rest, what are you going to do?" All I thought there was "Um... is this really that big of an issue?"
  • My guess is you start off with Jane, Sarita and maybe Bonnie (as she was helping also)

    Jane gives clem some advice/lessons

You run into Sarah alive or dead

Then after that I'm not sure
  • I was thinking the same. It could've been they were intending for the baby to be born at Carver's camp but decided to move it to Episode 4 for other reasons [maybe so it didn't conflict with their escape] and to give Rebecca more character development if she doesn't live through it.

  • You've skipped Jane's words. Sarah will cause troubles, Sarita will die - Kenny will cause troubles, Rebecca's pregnancy will cause troubles. "They're all going to die Clementine. Don't let them pull you down with them".
  • Now I REALLY want to know what's gonna happen to Clem, the in-game slide image of episode 4 is so different compared to the trailer. The trailer isn't really anything special tbh, it's just a trailer, but the slide image is just spine-chilling...
  • haha, thanks Juicey!
Yeah, that's what I thought. I think by including those words they want to show that Clem's learning more survival skills, specifically in dealing with Walkers.

  • Yeah, you're right to be pissed :P
IMO that'll be a major moral choice concerning the episode; either Clem will stick with the others and thus show her loyalty and dependability, or go off on her on "a la Molly".

  • The slide's place in the trailer is I think towards the end. She dealing with a loss (maybe?) and the 2 survivor groups have met up.
But apart from some random voodoo thing, I have no idea why Clem would smear her face with blood and be surrounded by people...
    It makes me uneasy...

    Avoiding them "Crawford Ninja Style"?

In the year and half she spent with Christa I'm guessing she learned all the "normal" survival skills (making fires, hunting, foraging,etc...)

  • She really seems to be struggling in despair, maybe she will lose someone who is important to her. I can imagine that she'll breakdown if she saw Kenny die(for example).
