Do you believe that Nick is gay?

  • Yeah. A very uncommon thing. And besides, with the amount of shit going on for the characters, do you really think telltale are going to take time out of their ninety minutes to explore something completely unnecessary? You'd think they'd have learn from that forced, contrived romantic endeavor with Carley.

"Also, Luke is DEFINITELY not gay. If you stay silent during his first meeting wth Clem, he says something like "Kid, I'm an expert at talking to girls who don't want to talk to me."" Bisexuality is a thing.

  • I just think that he might wants to be like Luke, like he's mentioning it, and BTW is Walter gay? I never knew that :O
But I don't think so, they are childhood friends.
  • Forgot to say that on the Wiki it says that Nick's relationship to Luke is like 2 brothers.

  • I mean. It could be as simple as a 30 second long dialogue exchange between Nick and Clem. No one's expecting a huge subplot here.

  • Walter was gay, yes. Matthew, the man Nick shot, was his boyfriend. This has been confirmed by Telltale.

  • That would be alright, I guess. Tacked on, but I'd be okay with it.

But is the Wiki the official word from TTG or is it just speculation from fans? That's kind of the big question here. I'd be wary of using the Wiki as an authority of anything that hasn't been outright stated in the game.

Edit: Yeah I'm sceptical of using the wiki - it refers to Pete as Nick's uncle when in the game both Pete and Nick admit that they aren't actually related.

Forgot to say that on the Wiki it says that Nick's relationship to Luke is like 2 brothers.

I'm not talking about the people who claim to be gay, but the people who assume everyone to be gay or bisexual.

  • I can't find the video of it, but Nick mentions it in the shed. I was certain Pete mentions it in the van in one of the conversations, but I could be remembering it wrong... :)

  • As useful as wiki's are, information is nearly always entered by fans themselves.
The last time I looked at the wiki, it didn't say that (that their relationship resembled 2 brothers), that was added later, clearly by someone who believes that is what their relationship is.
Wiki's are not official sources of info, and there has not been any official word of what their relationship is, other than that they are close and have known each other for a long time. Everything else is speculation.

  • This might be way off but maybe you were thinking of when Clem accepts the drink from Nick and he toasts "To Peter Joseph Randall...." That might've given you the impression they weren't related somehow?

  • Maybe you misinterpreted a comment about how Pete took on the role of surrogate dad, maybe the phrasing in that made you assume he meant "not actual family" rather than "not actual father." Because I know for a fact that Pete calls Nick's mom his sister.

Everything a side, don't act all high and mighty by saying "(coming from a 14 year old)." Especially because in the USA, you aren't even allowed to play this game unless your parents bought it for you.

  • Bisexuality isn't all that uncommon. I don't think Luke will end up canonically nonhet though, I just wanted to point something out that a lot of people forget in debates like these.

As for the rest of your comment, skoothz was faster than me.

The thing is, it's not about "enforcing political correctness" or whatever. Multiple LGBT+ users have stated that some answers given in this thread are really hurtful to them; I feel the same way. It's easy to say that people should turn the other cheek when you're not the one who's being told that you're sick, unnatural, disgusting and that your opinion is unimportant simply because you're not heterosexual and want to see someone like you in a game you love.

I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh, I don't mean to be pissy or something. It's just really important that people realize how bad these kind of words hurt us. And it's a pity, really - there are a lot of other LGBT+ things I would love to discuss in regards to TWDG, considering the setup of a forum is easier for conversations than for example tumblr (where the environment isn't exactly LGBT+ friendly either tbqh), but a simple thread about "just" a gay character is already earning tons of dislike and hate speech. I can't even feel safe enough to open a general "what are your LGBT+ headcanons?" thread and talk about mine because the backlash it would earn would be horrifying. If people who throw around homophobic slurs got banned, be it temporarily or permanently, or at least got their comments removed quickly, there would at least be some kind of prevention of escalation.

you can't force people to be politically correct just because you don't like what they're saying, that'd be violating their right to freedom

  • Don't apologize. You have no reason to. There are people saying things harsher than you ever could and they won't apologize to you, so why should you apologize to them?

This thread turned into a debate about LGBT+ rights when people came in and started threatening what was meant to be a harmless and introspective environment for light-hearted discussion. I would love an LGBT+ headcanon thread because I have a ton of headcanons I'd love to share, but we can all agree that it would turn into a shitfest way bigger than this, and that's really pathetic. If me providing a 1k+ word write up on speculative evidence that Nick could be gay gets the reaction "You have no proof, you're just grasping for straws", then I really don't want to know how people would react to me saying "I headcanon Molly as nonbinary and asexual." It's SAD that it's like that but I can guarantee it'd be true.

The hate speech we've seen in this thread is violence. It breeds hostility and makes the forum unsafe. This is something the mods NEED to crack down on but honestly at this point I can't help but wonder if they're just ignoring this thread now and letting it fold in itself. You know OP was banned, right? I don't know if it was for this thread or something else, but... kinda looks like it was because of this thread.

Don't worry, I'm done apologizing for requesting being treated like a human being; I simply didn't want to be overly aggressive since there are comments in this thread that deserve harsh replies much more than the one I answered to.

As for your second paragraph, that's exactly what I meant. I could've replied with "the only way Nick isn't gay is him choosing a different label for his sexuality because he's non-binary and not a man", but I think any agreement I could possibly get for that would be far outweighed by "Lolol Nick not a man? What? Can't you see he has stubble"s and "take your tumblr BS elsewhere"s and whatnot. And I can count the forum users that I think would happily participate in LGBT+ headcanon collecting on one hand.

Also, what the hell, I didn't know OP was banned. Their post history doesn't really suggest any violation of basic forum rules, so if they were really kicked for this thread, that would be unbelievably disappointing. Not intervening with hate speech because freedom of speech blabla is something that's sadly common practice with a lot of websites, but actively banning someone for opening an LGBT+ discussion thread because it got out of hand is on a wholly different level.

  • I've actually been on board with the nb Nick headcanon for a while now, but him being canonically gay is far greater in likelihood which is why I chose to focus on that. And also yeah like you said even suggesting there's other ways to be LGBT+ besides being staunchly homosexual tends to garner some baffled and angry reactions.

And it's very weird to me that they'd ban OP for this thread but not close it?

Also I check the profile of the guy who used the f slur and he hasn't updated since the 17th so he actually may have been banned too (and rightly so). But he's not the only one who said nasty stuff.

You can tell if they have been banned if they have a "banned" tag next to the tag saying "member" on their profile.
If that isn't there, they haven't been banned.

Also, could you explain the non-binary Nick thing to me? I kinda get the gist of it but it's a term that confuses me.

  • You're ignorant because you've been inciting a flame war over something what was never meant to be a big deal. If the only factor here was that you don't think Nick is gay you would comment, "Hm, interesting theory, but personally I don't see it" and then move on with your life and so would we. You wouldn't be actively arguing with people, you wouldn't be jumping down the throats of folks who weren't even talking to you to begin with. This isn't about how you don't Nick isn't gay, it's about your anger that other people do.
