Kenny had seven episodes to develop as a character and he presents a sense of nostalgia. Telltale screwed up the character development for the cabin group in Episode 1 which left us with a bad first impression and Episode 3 was focused on Kenny. Episode 2 was doing an adequate job in building a foundation of character development for the cabin group, only to be abandoned so they can expand more on Kenny's skyscraper of character development.
The cabin group had ~2 episodes worth of time to get themselves attached to the player before Kenny went into the spotlight last episode. Ho… morenestly, Kenny being in the spotlight really doesn't have that much to do with it. Even before Kenny went into the spotlight, the cabin group wasn't really doing much to make me feel very attached to them.
Kenny doesn't need to be in the spotlight alone. TellTale can have other characters in that same spotlight at the same time, they simply didn't do it last episode.
Why are you thinking that only one character can be in the spotlight at a time? It does not make any sense. Kenny being in the spotlight isn't preventing TellTale from putting someone else out there with him.

Because there is usually a character that steals the show. For instance, Nick had the first half of Episode 2 while Kenny had the second half. Kenny stole the spotlight in Episode 3, the reasons are stated in my OP.

But it doesn't necessarily have to be that way.. if TellTale wants to throw a cabin group member in the spotlight with him they can absolutely do that.
Actually the more I think about it, TellTale doesn't generally have one character steal the spotlight.

I honestly don't want it to be that way, but so far that's what Telltale has been doing. I said this in an earlier post that every character should be getting equal amount of spotlight instead of focusing it on one person.

it wasn't just 15 min. the group was with clem for roughly 6-7 days. sure, as far as actual gameplay time we got next to nothing, but in game time, clem's spent a whole week with these people before meeting kenny, and they've told her next to nothing. clem's been around kenny for about 2-3 days to the groups now 8-10, and yet kenny's the only person to openly talk to her. getting a chance to talk more with sarita would be nice, but she's the only person we haven't actually had a chance to talk to alone. the cabin group has no excuse.
Really? The whole 15 minutes we got with them in episode one? And maybe another fifteen or so at the start of ep 2 before they got to the s… moreki lodge. I didn't say anything about intimidating, only that Kenny talks so much hardly anyone else gets a word in. I'm sure it's a lot of fun to write for him and play him but I'd like to hear more from the others too.
There are Kenny fans (like me) Who don't see everyone who doesn't like Kenny as an "enemy". That's fine because people have different tastes… more, but what annoys me is people who just slag characters because they hate them. If you hate a character, fine but don't keep bringing them down. Yes, you can your opinion but if people are just going to insult a character, it's better to keep your mouth shut. This is not towards you, just those people who mock characters.
Not really. As I said before, they had a total of maybe thirty minutes in those two episodes before Kenny showed up. When you have that many characters, you need a lot more than that to really build them up.

I don't think it would be fair to Luke though. So many people are attached to Kenny (even people who hated him or just didn't care about him… more in Season 1) and we still barely know anything about Luke. Choosing between Kenny and Luke for some people is like choosing between family and an acquaintance. Not much of a contest for some people really.
I was so angry about this, honestly. I mean, really, FINALLY we got to see this elusive camp and see this Carver monster for who he really was! We had a chance to see the cabin group back in a familiar element and see them react to being back to a place they ran from and learn about them through that. Finally we could talk to them and they'd tell us stories about this place and the people in it and how they got there and why they left. We'd learn what happened when they escaped and through this imprisonment in a place unfamiliar to Clementine and familiar to the cabin group, we'd learn more about them.
Except nope. Kenny took the spotlight in a place he had no business having the spotlight in. This was a chance for outsiders Clementine and Kenny to really see the Cabin group characters and learn about them through how they interacted with this camp and the people in it. But nope. Kenny was the one to kill Carver, which he had NO place doing. Yeah he got beat up, but Rebecca deserved that moment. Hell, ANY of the cabin group members deserved that moment over Kenny. What stake does Kenny have in anything in this camp?
I'm not necessarily mad at Kenny for this, but I AM mad at the writers. Every time Kenny took over, I was seeing red and by the end I wanted to throw my controller across the room. I thought that we would have an episode that would take the spotlight from episode 2 off of Kenny and let us really know and feel the new season 2 characters and even up the roles. But nope. The mystery still remains and they've only set Kenny up for yet even more dramatic moments. We still have to learn what happened after he escaped the walkers and how he met Sarita and we have to see where this new character arc of mental instability is going and I'm SURE we will because the writers know Kenny has fans. But see, considering how short these episodes are, all of those things could take up a HUGE amount of space. Kenny could easily be an entire half of the episode and that leaves the cabin group crammed in next to all of the action and whatever horrible thing happens to Clementine in this episode.
In short, I mad. I very mad. And although I'm not a Kenny fan, I was excited to see him return. I was interested in seeing where they'd go with his character after everything. Now I just wish they'd left him out altogether because I really am not playing season 2 for the Clementine and Kenny show. I play it for Clementine interacting with memorable and impacting characters and groups that aren't just Kenny.
The moment they reintroduced him into it. Also he is starting to become the center of the stories along with Clementine. Seriously, this group is all about fatal flaws. Luke is good-hearted and smart, but not tough enough (He already gets caught on an important mission because he tries to steal food). Luke is too impulsive. Alvin was too weak... the list goes on and on. Also they practically slap you in the face with foreshadowing in the premiere for episode 4 when Jane says the group is dragging Clementine down, and most of them were going to die. Clem and Kenny are the two reoccurring characters. The only other person who will survive will probably be Rebecca. Jane will too but she might leave them. The point they are making is not very subtle. They been over this concept with the dialogue over and over. Weak people die. The new group is filled with pretty weak people.
That's about it my speculation is as good as anyone's.
I feel this last episode did tell us what the group was capable of. We may have wanted it to be more positive, but it's apparent they are mainly unable to have their own group. Without listening to Kenny or Clem, it has been made very clear the their ability to thrive was limited.

I agree. Especially if all the cabin group get killed off this season, it will be a waste of potentially great characters. Unless they are planning on keeping some of them around and building them up next season, I hope we get more development for them in the last two episodes.
I also agree that Kenny is a great character who has had a lot of great character development so far in both seasons. Maybe if these story lines occurred last season, when we didn't have as many character to work with, I wouldn't complain as much. But there are so many characters now, and without proper character development, they're deaths just feel like cannon fodder. I think the only death that REALLY hit me and sunk in was Omid's, and he doesn't even count for this season.
I can't even clearly identify who the deuteragonist and tritagonist of this season are. Initially I thought Clem-Luke-Kenny (a great parallel to last season's Lee-Clem-Kenny), but now I'm like Clem-Kenny-More Kenny????????????.
I feel like giving Kenny the spotlight in Episode 3 was a cop-out on Telltale's part. Especially since most of the cabin group are way under… moredeveloped. What bothers me is that instead of providing character development to some of the characters they've been neglecting, they rehashed an already well-written character's story while sidelining the cabin group. What's worse is that most of the cabin group are either dead or MIA. If Telltale doesn't address this problem in Episode 4 then it's over.
Kenny = Daryl with mustache
Both are very likeable and badass characters but both are put on a pedestal and steals spotlight and character development from other main characters
I really like both Daryl and Kenny, but that shit does annoy me.
