Now, I hope I raised a few eyebrows this that ;) I'll try to explain what this picture means and where it comes from.

First of all, I did this. This picture is the result of quite some extensive digging through the game-files, trying to understand how they work and how to read them. The pic shows an OpenGL-Rendering, that is exclusively using unmodified files from the game. Well, except for the eyelashes... I will not explain how I did this, or how to read any of the game-files, as I know Telltale wouldn't want that ;)

Why am I posting this? Two reasons, actually. For one, I did pose her myself, and I kind of like the result, so I wanted to share it with you guys.
Secondly, and this is way more important to me. I am a few weeks away from getting my M.Sc. and now I'm looking for employment in the video-games-industry. Obviously I'd like to work for Telltale. Sadly I can't just apply there, because I'm not living in the US (damn Visas!). So I'm hoping some Telltale-people will stumble across this post and notice me and maybe want to talk to me? Or someone reads this and pokes the right person at TTG. I didn't have much luck reaching someone per Email. So I guess this is my way to show just a little of what I can do. :)
If someone from TTG wants to contact me, they can use the Email-address I used for this account. Or maybe they or anyone else want to contact me on twitter, (at)stkober, twitter.com/stkober ? But be warned, I am not that interesting to follow there ;)
If not, well then this is still a nice picture to share :)

For those of you that might think that picture is SPOILERY. It's not! I can guarantee it ;) The body is obviously from EP3, but the head is actually in the files that came with EP1. My guess is it's the head used for the EP4-Diorama.

Anyway. What do you guys think of Clem without her had? I think the can pull it off! After working many hours with that model to, well, get it working, I've really gotten used to it by now.
I'd love to see some scenes in the next episodes where she's not wearing her had for whatever reason. I don't want her to lose it for good, tough.

I hope this post didn't break any of the forum-rules :)

  • Well, I was hoping for more of a reaction. But who could know, that suddenly all those thread would pop up, where someone switched her head-model. :)

Anyway, I've been thinking about what someone could do with the ability do read TTG-Files. One of the ideas I had could be described as interactive-3d-comic. Which would basically a traditional, interactive comic, where you'd be able to choose the responses and actions of a character, just like you do in the game. But every comic tile would be in 3D and you'd be able to freely move around in it.

I don't know if you guys would want something like that? And more importantly I don't know, if Telltale would allow their work to be used for something like that?

    What do you think?
  • All Telltale needs to do is give us there engine they promised us 1000 years ago

  • Awesome picture, man. Clementine looks like she's about to kick my ass. I've got mad respect for what you're trying to do, and I hope you get a job at Telltale. I, too, have been working on a project to put in front of Telltale's eyes in order to get a job, or at least a some tips. Except you are more into character creation, while I enjoy writing and creating storyboards. Again, nice job, and good luck!
  • I can't view twitter at school, you should post an imgur version of the picture.
  • I'm sorry, wasn't thinking that would be a problem. I added an imgur link to the post above :)

  • We'll see. Was some hard work. Some hours of just staring at binary files trying to see a pattern. Then building an engine that supports animated models. Quite some nice math involved in that :)

  • Well the fact that you were able to understand lines of code and in the end produce this awesome Clemetine Picture...
it kind off made me think you might be a "smart sonuvabitch"

  • Quick question, do you know how to work it in game and could you at least show people who added you on a external site like Steam or something? I'd really want to be able to do this but I can't stand to learn how to do everything then deal with the trial and error of modding.
  • Well, school was followed by 6 years of university, that I loved... soooo ;)

  • I don't think the guys at Telltale would appreciate that. But you'd need to have some basic understating of how the math for 3d-grafic works. Shading, Normalmapping... well, general linear algebra. ;)

I still haven't figured out everything, yet. There's still some stuff that's a mystery to me. Their I can't make any sense of their animation-files... yet... ;)

  • I mean to make Clem and Kenny hatless. Sorry for confusing you.

  • she loks so mad in the picture!

oh ya, and Gunab, if the heights are accurate, can you put clem and lee next to each other. IF ITS not to much work! I wantto see her new height now compared to lee

  • I actually thought about doing that. But that will still take some time. Right now I can only load one model at a time. It's gonna happen, tough ;)

  • Oh, I'm sorry. I've never tried modifing the game. What you see on my picutres is my own graphic-"engine". Can't help you there. :(

Pretty awesome! :-) I hope you will get some attention from Telltale and that you will find a job in the video-games industry soon. How long did it take to create those pictures ?

Do you have a portfolio or something like that?
  • edited May 2014
Looks awesome, you have a gift for facial expressions and body language/poses in particular.

Also there's that whole thing where you trawled through game files to work out how to open them and everything, which is pretty damn clever. Here's hoping TTG picks up on this somehow.

And here's hoping that we can see more of these in future!
  • She should put away that hat more often.
  • edited May 2014
Man, this picture is cool. I really want to see someone make a wallpaper with it if Gunab is cool with that.
  • Hatless Nick ? Maybe...
  • edited May 2014
Awesome. I would really like to see poses as expressive as this more often in the actual game. I'd be happy if you landed a spot on Telltale's TWD team. Judging by recent episodes, they could use someone like you.
  • Nick doesn't have a hatless model.

So far, only Kenny and Clem has.
  • Oh clem lost her hat, well troy lost his dick :(
  • Once I had everything working, posing her was a matter of minutes.
To get everything working... A little over a month. Maybe 40 hours in total. Mostly because I've never done 3D-Graphics before and thus I had to learn the math and concepts from scratch.
Also, the 3 exams I passed in that time, took some time away. ;)

And no, I don't have a portfolio. At least nothing online ;)
