Carlos Back Story?

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
Okay so how about this head-canon for Carlos.

Before the apocalypse Carlos lived in a surburban home with a young daughter named Sarah and his wife. Carlos ambitioned to be a doctor but he gave that up so he could help take care of his family at home. However his wife eventually got cancer, Carlos felt that this was his fault somehow however she pleaded to him that it clearly wasn't and made him promise he'd go back to medical school to become a doctor and fufill his dream. Carlos promised however he had to go back to University to study Medicine.

During this Carlos also wanted to spend more time studying anxiety disorders due to his daughter Sarah being diagnosed generalised anxiety disorder due to the death of her mother, which made her weak, vulnerable and suspect to easy bullying. Sarah was lonely and because of this isolation did not really want to go outside, she preferred having books to explore different worlds and escape from reality.

Sarah one day was being bullied when students assumed Sarahs father had a bad job however Sarah worked up the confidence to stand up to her bullies and said that her father was actually studying to be a doctor. Sarah later told Carlos this and this made Carlos ever so determined to become a doctor so that it could perhaps help Sarah gain confidence as she could be proud of his father and possibly reduce the effects of her anxiety.

Carlos however only made it through one year of medical training at a nearby university (he also had to balance out two jobs to support him and Sarah financially) before the apocalypse struck. He rushed home to get Sarah to safety and after months and months of events concerning the community and their escape he stepped out of a cabin he called his new home, and saw a young girl with a dog bite.

Now this back story was made up by me, it doesn't have much evidence but I thought it was fun to write and I was wondering if you guys could see this as head-canon (You don't have to it's probably rimmed with plot holes).

Now this explains that Carlos knows more basic medicine than the average guy however he doesn't know specific subjects (such as bite marks). However he still calls himself a doctor in order to keep Sarah calm during the time of the apocalypse which would put great pressure on her even moreso than school. This would also explain why Carlos tries to give a verdict on the bite anyway, if he couldn't expain anything he would fear that word would eventually reach Sarah (who has a somewhat curious nature despite not liking the outside world that much such as when she went to see what was going on outside with Clementine) and Sarah would be somewhat dissapointed to know her father isn't really a doctor which Carlos could fear would crush her and make her anxiety worse.

His over-protectivness stems from the death of his wife as he blames himself for her death and doesn't want to lose Sarah thus making him want to protect her like he feels he couldn't do so for his wife.

Hmm...what do you guys think?

  • Now that I think about it... it'd be really easy for them to not trust Clementine.
  • I like it. Good job :) .
  • Nice work.

Now if only we had something like that in-game. It would've made me feel a lot worse for him rather than just seeing him as that hispanic doctor guy who locked me in a shed.
  • Maybe we'll learn more about Carlos' past from Sarah. I have a feeling Clem and Sarah will have a talk about each other's parents at some point, seeing as how they're all dead now. That will undoubtedly be a tear jerker of a scene if we're lucky enough to have it happen.

Nice work. Now if only we had something like that in-game. It would've made me feel a lot worse for him rather than just seeing him as that hispanic doctor guy who locked me in a shed.

  • Thanks :)
