I don't want Clem to be a badass

Hey, this is just my personal opinion. But I'm sure some people agree with it.

I do not want Clementine to turn into a badass, she's just a child. It isn't badass to insult another person. I insulted my teacher, does this make me a badass? Watching another person get his head crushed isn't very "badass" either.

  • I only classify the badass moments as when she's beating zombies! :D
  • I don't like the word "badass". It makes Clem sound like she's a Mary Sue, and she can't be bested.
I don't want her to be unstoppable. I just want her to be strong.

She can be badass without being ruthless. That's what's so great about her: she's smart and brave but also compassionate and vulnerable. This is also why I loved Lee, because he was an empathetic and moral person, but he could also step up and take responsibility when he had to.

And that's what being a badass is to me, anyway, not insulting people. Instead, I think being a badass is being brave, strong, and independent, while also doing the right thing and sticking to your personal morals.
  • The term "badass" seems to mean different things for different people. So to clarify, I made up an acronym to capture what I mean when I describe Clem as a badass. To me, a person is badass if they are:

    Bold
    Assertive
    Determined
    Adept
    Strong
    Steadfast

If you agree that Clem possesses these traits than you can agree with me that she is a badass.

People thinks she's badass for saying "You're not my dad, Carlos."
  • What a badass acronym. I totally agree.

  • I'm pretty sure when she gets older she's gonna be even more badass.
  • Badass: tough, uncompromising, or intimidating.

Just because she's becoming more badass doesn't mean she also has to become an asshole. To me, it's more of a matter of toughness; I like that Clem is able to fight for herself, make decisions for herself and have her opinions respected despite her young age. Of course, the danger of her becoming ruthless as a result isn't exactly zero, a fact that Carver has first voiced in EP3 and that will probably play a larger role in the future.

I prefer S2 Clementine over S1 Clementine, though, and I don't think her development is unrealistic.
  • Well, shes an badass because of her actions. As for being sassy i do that only like half the time which is pretty realistic for a kid going into a puberty.
  • I wouldn't consider Clem to be badass, but rather strong, independent, etc.
  • She's only badass if you make her that way, same with Lee.
  • I don't like calling her badass, but alike to Rigtail's reply, more strong and independent. I don't like how people consider watching someones head get crushed badass in the first place. It's not, you're just observing another form of murder (even if the person deserved it or not).

It's fun to do a darker playthrough for shits and giggles, but yeah, some of the options seem a bit too sadistic for Clem.

It's not really what she says, but how she says it. She's enjoying it a bit too much for my tastes.

I found the way she says "I know" after Kenny says "It's going to get messy" especially disturbing.
  • Who would play her like that?!
    That would be INSHANE!

  • You just went full Shane. Never go full Shane!

  • I liked playing Lee as a badass and I mean mine was a bad guy and he was so bad that I considered him the main antagonist for season one in my playthrough. With Clem it's not the same as being bad with Lee as he was a grown man whereas Clem is a little 11 year old kill who can't punch for shit. So I play her as a nice quiet girl.

No no, I don't call her badass when she insults someone, that's what's known as 'Sassy Clem'.

Then she does have her badass moments, she can't help being badass so... #DealWithIt -- I don't really think badass fits her either way, it's more like Rigtail said: Strong and independent, which IMO can translate to 'badass' but why bother with technicalities..

    Badass =/= psychopath

She can still be a badass and not be beating people's face off with crowbars

Clem can be kind and sweet when in a safe place among friends, switching to serious and badass when shit gets real.
  • She's not really badass, just strong and potentially defiant.

Unless she's covered in walker guts and has a group of assault riflemen covering her from zombies, or is in an enclosed space with only one zombie, she gets her ass handed to her at every occasion, by zombie or human alike.
