The ZA began in 2003? No, it's 2005+

Alright, so apparently there is a vehicle in Season 2 that is from the year 2005. People have claimed that this is true though I have no seen it for myself, but this has caused people to assume that the apocalypse began in 2003. Now wait a minute, why would a 2005 vehicle be in the ZA if the ZA supposedly began in 2003? Think about it, do you really think 2005 vehicles would be made in 2003? I'm sure nobody is going around creating them in the Zombie Apocalypse. This is what I'm thinking, the ZA started in the year 2005 or higher. That would be the only clear explanation for that vehicle spotted in Season 2.

EDIT: It wasn't a vehicle, but it was license plate that was spotted and examined.

    I haven't read those, but I'm assuming Twitter was created in 2006? It could have also started past that year. This is good, we're getting closer to figuring out a date (or at least a year) for when it truly started.

    It varies a lot as the writers sometimes reference things that weren't around at the time the ZA first started, but if we're going by the comics, (and subsequently the game), then the ZA started in 2003, and Season 2 takes place around the end of 2005. That vehicle is probably just a continuity error or something.

    The general assumption is that the outbreak started at the same time the comic launched. There aren't any exact dates or anything specific in the comic which states when it is. The closest reference to suggesting a year I am aware of is the twitter one in the first novel.

    Well, in the show, there's a 2011 and 2013 vehicle in it. It's probably an accident. It's not really something to think about because the game is based off the comics, and the comics were made in 2003.

    Also true but in the comics there are some clues that are suggest what year is it. By that I mean clues that are supporting 2002-2004 dates. I won't tell which clues though because I assume that not everyone read the comics. I just finished Volume 16 for example.

    I'd say it started in either 2006 or 2007, due to the Twitter reference, but you're right, it's probably 2005+.

    If its 2005, than Clem was born around 1997. So she would be 17 or older now.

    I know that it interests people to hypothesise about what year it started but it really doesn't matter, Kirkman/TTG most likely intentionally made it open to interpretation. Essentially it started whatever year you wanted it to start in.

    This is just my opinion, I may very well be wrong.

    that is going to be a "oh shit" moment.

    because we finally know when it happened and how old everyone is. But I just stick with present time for me. so if its been like 3 years since it started in the game, that would mean it started in 2011. im going to stick with that.

    It's unlikely that will happen as Telltale are unlikely to be allowed to make a statement in game which directly effects the comic.

    I would like to believe that, but then there would be signs of it being 2011, like newer vehicles, up to date phones, etc. All we've seen so far are things that are many years old.

    I think Kirkman himself once stated 2003. But he also said that the year doesn't really matter. Personally, I don't worry about it too much.

    I think that date on the license plate is the expiration date, not the date the plate was created. So 2003 (maybe 2004, continuity error?).

    The show is in a different universe than the comics and game. It's cannon, just not cannon in the same universe.
