Kenny's Evolution started from the beginning?

Kenny has been around in the Walking Dead since the start in Episode 1. He has changed so much going from a strong family man who was happy then to a depressed hot headed idiot in episodes 3-5. Then in Season 2 he returned with a new girlfriend and almost his replacement child in Clem. And now well he's still the same but more bad ass and cares so much about Clem he wont let anyone hurt her. So I want to ask you all... Do you think telltale had this in the mind from the start to keep Kenny around and make him become one of the most unpredictable bad ass characters in twd (after lee of course ;). Thanks for reading and wanna here all of the community's thoughts thanks!

  • All I know is that I'm pretty sure they initially planned for Kenny to die in episode 5, but his overwhelming popularity seemed to make TellTale decide against it.

  • Kenny is love. Kenny is life

  • I doubt they just said Kenny will play a big role in the following episodes and season 2 right from the start of season 1.

  • Considering how much in episode 3 didn't feel very connected with previous episodes, I honestly doubt they had "Kenny kills Carver" in mind when they started season 2, let alone keeping him around from the beginning, but obviously I can't speak for them.

I can certainly say that season 2 Kenny doesn't indicate that they had some big plan in mind, at least in my opinion. A lot of what makes up season 2 Kenny is basically a big retread to his season 1 self, which to the more cynical might indicate a lack of ideas on TellTale's part. From insulting Ben again and apparently completely forgetting the reasons for his sacrifice, to never divulging just how he survived, to getting another woman in his life apparently for the sole purpose of dying to give him more angst, to mentioning Duck for little reason other than to make us feel sad, it just all starts to pile on after a while. I sure hope this is intentional and maybe they're trying to say that Kenny's the kind of guy who just can't get past his... um, past. That could potentially be an interesting take, so I hope they actually follow through with it.

  • Yeah, TT decided to explore his fate due to popularity and i think it was awesome, i would't say he was an idiot, the man lost his child and wife in one day he was broken. I think he is an awesome character, im not saying it as his fan, im saying it as a gamer, despite his age, he proved he can do more than younger characters, such as (no i dont hate him) Ben and im sure Many more, and he is the kind of man who would risk his own life to save his family including Clem, yeah he changed ZA would change anyone.

  • Gavin himself stated in an interview that originally Kenny's death was very "obvious", with screaming and such.

Later however, they re-did and made it the more ambiguous scenes we got in the final game.

    Kenny has changed.
Kenny has been in a war-like situation for over 2 years, and like any combat veteran will tell you, war changes men.
You can't live in a situation like that, and not have it change you.

I'd say, based on my experience of living with my uncle for a time, who's a Vietnam vet, that Kenny is suffering from post-traumatic-stress-disorder.
    All the signs are there.

Even though Kenny has this disorder, it doesn't make him a bad man.
Granted Kenny did commit cold-blooded murder when he killed Carver.
However given the type of man Carver was, and the life-threatening danger he presented to the group, I can personally attach no criminality to Kenny's actions.
I'd still say that based on the fatherly love and concern that Kenny shows toward Clementine, as well as the concern he shows for the rest of the group, I'd say Kenny is still a good man.

And I'd say Kenny is a bright, intelligent man.
He's good with his hands, and is very resourceful.
I'd say the biggest problem he has is his temper.
Once you lose your temper, you can't think clearly nor reasonably.

I'm not sure if the writers had all these changes in mind for Kenny right from the get-go, or if they've just been making them up as they go.
Either way, I think they beautifully illustrate the kind of affect that living in such conditions can have on a person.

  • Dat is what I predicted when I found the unused audio files.

    I remember that forum.
And I personally found it quite disturbing, as it essentially turned Kenny into a pedophile.

Kenny is love. Kenny is life

  • I have a feeling Kenny will have quite a huge impact on the following episodes.

I doubt they just said Kenny will play a big role in the following episodes and season 2 right from the start of season 1.

  • Kenny and Clem are the only two survivors that made it from A New Day to the present, and they're still kicking. Kenny has become an amazing character, I mean it's not every day you see someone completely reconstruct someone's face with a crowbar.
