what do you think of possibly having character in the group who is sick?
Like say for example, a man who has Cancer, AIDS, etc.
I think it would be interesting to have a person afflicted with one of those illnesses, to be introduced into the group.
As not only would it add extra dynamic to the game, but it would also add realism.
Even in that kinda environment, you would still have people who have those afflictions.
What do you think?

Like the cancer patients?
I mean actually having a member of the group having one of those diseases.
Unlike Vernon's group, you didn't actually get to have them in the group, and have to contend with their sickly state.
Maybe they could do what they did with the show (Andrea/Michonne) where one character has the flu, or some sort of cold where their temperature is higher than normal and you have to care for them until they get better.
That's actually a pretty damn good idea!
Thank you!
One reason I suggest a guy who has AIDS, is because not only is it infectious, but it also carries a social stigma.
So what I was thinking, if one of the character's is infected with it, the player can have option of how they would treat that person.
Either they could defend that person, or ostrasize him, and have other characters in the game do the same.
Now I know some will say that kinda treatment of people infected with HIV/AIDS went out with the 80's.
However, such discriminatory treatment is far from over.
For example, I was watching a documentary about AIDS on the BBC not long ago, and on there, there was an 18 year old girl who was born with HIV and she was being tormented by other girls in her school.
Also there was an older woman, around 60, who got infected with HIV from her 2nd husband, and she and her son from her 1st marriage were facing verbal harassment, and who were living in fear of being physically harassed.
She can't even go to visit her daughter, who lives in another country, cause she's not allowed into the country cause of her diagnosis.
So to have that kinda element in the game, I think would be very interesting.
It will show that even though the "old world" is gone, a lot of it's practices and prejudices are still here.
And it allows the player to respond accordingly.
Nice idea you got there! The only little problem is how are people going to find out about those sickness because I don't think that's the type of thing you say to everyone. Imagine: "'sup, my name is Tom and I have [insert random sickness here] ! ". They would probably try to hide it. But, anyway, I like your idea!
You make a good point.
Allow me to give some signs and symptoms of AIDS.
People with AIDS for example, many often have Karpi-Sarcoma, which is a form of skin cancer, that produce lesions on the skin.
Karpi Sarcoma is often associated with AIDS, and according to what I've read about AIDS and Karpi Sarcoma, for the most part only people
with AIDS get this type of skin cancer.
As is severe weight-loss.
After a while, many people who are in the later stages of AIDS begin to experience what used to be called "AIDS wasting."
Why it happens is not totally understood, at least according to the latest research I've done.
But what it is a sign of is that the immune system is fairly depleted.
A person is considered with AIDS is considered to have AIDS-wasting syndrome, if they've had diarrehea, or fever and weakness for over 30 days, according to the U.S. department of Health and Human services.
Also people in the later course of the disease often experience AIDS-related dementia.
In edition to confusion and difficulty concentrating, AIDS-related dementia may also involve memory problems and behavioral issues, such as anger or irritability.
It may even include motor changes: becoming clumsy, lack of coordination, and problems with tasks requiring fine motor skills such as handwriting.
Anyone who has medical knowledge, say a doctor for example, who sees this, especially the lesions, is going to recognize that the person in question has AIDS.
Especially if he specializes in that area, or has treated a patient who has had the disease in the past.
Or perhaps anyone who has cared for a relative with AIDS.
And if you think about it, he's gonna have to tell somebody eventually.
Say he gets injured, he's gonna have to warn the group that his blood is infectious.
Also he's gonna need help to get the medication he needs.
Remember how Larry needed those nitro-glycerine pills for his heart condition, and how he would've been screwed if he didn't get them?
Just expounding on your imagined scenario.
This is sort of covered by Sarita bleeding and Rebecca giving birth, but covering themselves in walker guts could've given someone a disease. Hell, Jane should have gotten sick or even died a few times before she even met the group. I mean, covering youself in parts of dead people and walking around corpses is horrible for you health. Just not disposing of bodies can cause plagues. That woman's got one powerful fucking inmune system.
YEAH! LETS BRING SOMEBODY WITH AIDS!!!
wait... if that person has a cut, and touches clementine on a spot were she has a cut, will clem get aids?
Yea we already had people like that and they stole our boat screw the sick can't trust them anymore
That's why caution is necessary.
But that's why it would be interesting.
As it brings in all these dynamics that the player is faced with and has to respond to.
So will the player treat the one with AIDS with kindness, or with contempt or apathy?
Yeah, those symptoms would be pretty obvious. People may not know wich sickness it is but they, for sure, would know the person is in really bad shape. And the scenario you imagined is very plausible. I really hope Telltale is going to make a character like that one day, he/she would be very interesting. I really would like to continue this conversation but I have nothing to say x). You answered all the questions I was asking myself in your post! Anyway, I hope Telltales come across this thread and think about implemanting your idea in the game ( season 3 maybe? ).
Well thank you for all the praise you've given this idea of mine.
Nice to feel it's appreciated.
And I hope someone from a writer for TWD comes across it too.
Keep on truckin'!
It's normal! Here, take a Kenny drawing for your idea!
Well we do have Carlos...wait a second! Clem: "Oh Shit!"
Probably the latter, sadly. AIDS still has a lot of stigma surrounding it.
It would be interesting, but someone with full-blown AIDS wouldn't last very long in a post-outbreak world. Unsanitary living conditions and a bunch of rotting corpses walking around would wreck somebody who doesn't have an immune system.
So that's how he got out of the alley!
Clementine doesnt even know what aids is
That would we interesting, but there's really small chance of that IMO.
Most of people with diseases in ZA are probably dead since there is no way they could have the proper medical care.
survival of the fittest.
Yeah, I found this pic in the game files. It's totally legit.
Yeah, they also didn't have cancer any more. Or at least, weren't at serious risk from it: they were all in remission.
It would be realistic for people with hiv to die out after one year or two because of the lack of meds and a much less healthy environment.
Who doesn't know what Aids is, seriously? She is smarter than most people.
Exactly.
Also with Vernon's group, you didn't get to have any of them in your group for any extended period of time.
So the player was not faced with the challenge of trying to help take care of that individual.
You do make a good point. Sadly many are infected with AIDS every year.
And some are not able to afford treatment.
And all that could be prevented if people would do either 1 of 2 things..... either stay celibate until marriage, or practice safe sex each and every single time.
Cause sadly it only takes only one time of unprotected sex, and a person could get infected, and be infected for the rest of their lives.
And when you think about it, taking such a needless risk, like unprotected sex is completely stupid.
You only get one body, and one life.
Why not try to make it as long and as good a life as possible?
That's the way I look at it, anyway.
They are working on a HIV Vaccine, last i read it was having positive results. I wouldn't be worried about HIV/AIDS. Cancer is today's #1 disease.
But here's something to consider.
The pharmaceutical companies make a fortune every year selling drugs to people afflicted with HIV/AIDS.
Do you really think they're gonna tolerate something that could potentially harm that revenue?
And the pharmaceutical companies pay the FDA to push their products.
Why do you think there are drugs with such side-effects such as increased risk of heart attack, stroke, certain types of cancers, etc, that are on the market and that are listed as FDA approved?
Something to think about.
Lol, I prefer this one.
Of course not, i understand the evilness of human nature all to well. Its the same reason why the united states government have blocked production of water powered car, and other inventions that would cut our oil reliance drastically.
Government!
It's as crooked as a dog's hind leg.
That sounds like something Kenny or Sarita will go through (because of the eye loss and amputation/infection).
Uhhh guys... This is a forum about The Walking Dead... This ain't a forum about The United States government. (But being from Iowa, I would have a lot of arguments in that forum xD)
"I don't know what you're saying, but I know its bullshit!" Nah I'm just kidding. But seriously I remember getting the STD talk when I was 10
