toughest characters in the game.

edited June 2014 in The Walking Dead

Who would you choose?

I personally vote Lee and Kenny as the toughest men in the game.
Lee was able to take the pain of having his arm chopped off, not to mention the blood loss and the walker infection.
And Kenny took one of the worst beatings I've ever seen in a videogame, and managed to stand on his own two feet.

Not to mention how, in season 1, he got shot by Andy St John at point blank range with a hunting rifle, and managed to walk to the motel on his own.

I've often wondered, how do you build that kind of physical toughness?
Anyone have any theories on that?

Personally I think it's starts mentally.
If you're tough mentally, you're gonna push yourself and do what need to be done, even though you may feel like utter shit.

    Probably Kenny and Clem.

Kenny for obvious reasons after 203. Clem because...come on. Stitching her own arm, getting smacked around left and right in episode 3, all without a single tear. Maybe a little bit at the arm stitching. But still. Girl has gotten seriously tough for her age. Hell, not just for her age, in general really.

    EDIT: Yeah, and Lee.

Clementine no doubt. (Not really physically but Mentally)

Edit: Thought it said strongest instead of toughest, but still, Clementine

I was going to say the same thing, Clementine is emotionally tough, even after she was bitten by Sam she broke out of the shed and snuck into the cabin to steal supplies in order to keep surviving.

Clementine no doubt. (Not really physically but Mentally) Edit: Thought it said strongest instead of toughest, but still, Clementine

  • Not only the toughest but also the smartest.

Smarter than Carlos that's for sure. (Commonsense wise)

Not only the toughest but also the smartest.

  • Let's not forget Christa. 16 months of wilderness survival with a little girl following the death of her husband and child. That's gotta count for something.

  • Lee is the toughest of them all.

Has proven himself in hand-to-hand combat (Andy St. John, Molly, Stranger, numerous walkers), suffered from a walker bite and still kept moving forward, even after an amputation (determinant), slaughters a hoard of walkers in a weakened state ( with a glass shard and meat cleaver- determinant, #ArmedWithDeath), gets shot in stomach and is still able to kill a man, all one-handed.

  • It means the world for me, having been Lee Everett.

  • The stranger can shoot him in the stomach.

But you're still able to kick his ass after.

Moral of this story is, Lee is a badass. Stranger doesn't even lift.

  • He had a fire in him I'm sure as shit.

Physically toughest in power/strength: Larry, possibly Carver, possibly Lee.

Physically toughest in withstanding pain: Lee, Kenny, possibly Clem.

Mentally toughest: Carver, possibly Clem, possibly Christa.

  • Carver clearly lost his mind. How is he the mentally toughest?

  • He doesn't crack like most characters. He gets over the shit that is thrown at him, and deals with it without hesitation.

Shane and "Philip" did, too, but in a way they also "cracked".

  • Philip cracked when Michonne killed Walker Penny. He was a complete mess, and transformed all that sorrow into rage and determination for vengeance. That's where he became a mentally stronger, yet unstable survivor. Not much fazed him, mainly because he had already lost so much, he was pretty much immune.

Shane and "Philip" did, too, but in a way they also "cracked".

  • Actually, I should change that to "possibly". The only strength we've seen from him is when he beat Kenny, and that was all anger driven and Kenny didn't even fight back so it wasn't fair. I'll change that.

  • "Unstable" being the key word. That focus is primal, and I consider mental resilience to also be able to control it.

I never actually got the scene myself in-game, but I remember it's at a point where you're sort of grappling with him, he throws Lee against a counter and shoots him in the gut before Lee charges forward again and slams him into the closet.

So basically, Lee can potentially have one arm, be bitten two additional times, and get shot in the midsection and still kick a man's arse. What a guy.

I knew you could get bit again but I didn't think you could get shot. Does he get shot when the Stranger is running across the room pretty stupidly?

  • With all due respect, it's not that Kenny didn't fight back, he couldn't.
With Troy standing behind him with an assault rifle, if Kenny did try to fight back Troy would've shot him dead.

I would've loved to have seen Kenny and Carver scuffle.
    It'd be TWD Smackdown!
And how about these for fighter names: "Dead-shot Kenny" VS "AK Carver."

And I'd bet $2,000 that Kenny would kick Carver's ass.
Kenny had something that Carver dint have, and that was someone to fight for, those two people being Clementine and Sarita.

  • Hopefully he'd have improved his hand to hand skills since season 1, though. :S

  • Darth Larry mopped the floor with him.

  • Molly too. And potentially Lee. :C

Darth Larry mopped the floor with him.

  • Physically toughest: Lee, Larry, Kenny and possibly Mike (He seems to have some muscle on him)

Can withstand the most pain: Carver (he took a bullet to the shoulder like a boss), Kenny, Lee and Clem

Mentally toughest: Lee, Clementine, Kenny and Christa a little bit.

  • He did get more badass since Season 1 though.

Molly too. And potentially Lee. :C

  • After 203 Kenny is severely limited, though, in that he's lost depth perception.

Probably Kenny and Clem. Kenny for obvious reasons after 203. Clem because...come on. Stitching her own arm, getting smacked around left

  • Isn't Kenny the character who has come mentally unstuck the most out of any, and who is becoming even more so?

That wouldn't really qualify him as the 'mentally toughest'.

A safer bet would be Christa, who withstood the death of her husband and child and still looked after the child who was indirectly responsible for 16 months. That's incredible.

  • Clementine had had her friend Christa lost from her, got attacked by bandits, then in the midsts of it got attacked by walkers, and then afterwards got attacked by a dog after meeting it, then got attacked by walkers again, then the people who saved her locked her in the shed, then she had to sneak and get supplies, then she had to stitch her arm, and 20 seconds after stitching her arm she gets attacked by a walker.

Finally after all that Clementine finally gets some downtime and rest.

  • Lee: know how to handle a gun, fights well, mentally strong, great leader, smart, knows how to threaten people.

Kenny: Survived for a long time, didn't suicide after his all family died, his mustache evolved into a beard.

Clem: knew how to shoot when she was 8, knows how to handle pain, is eleven but already kicks lurker butt, is smart, stiched her own arm up, handles fear pretty well, mentally strong ( everyone she knows die but she keep moving )

Christa: took care of Clem for 16 months ( longer than Lee ), mentally strong ( Omid's death ), didn't give Clem location when the bandits found her, is probably still alive after all that.

These guys below are the toughest and would make a mean group, imagine them going around together with automatics and M16 rifles, robbing and killing other groups.

  • Lee and Carver, Kenny too, and Larry with his pile driver body.

  • Troy sure is mean, but not tough, he had the upper hand so he abused them but he's a skinny little dipshit who doesn't know how to throw a punch (probably).

  • But recently he has seriously been affected mentally and is becoming even ruder and more violent, so I hardly think we can call him mentally tough.
