I don't think that's accurate. Firstly, we don't know how his separation from Kenny went down precisely. It could've been Luke trying to get Kenny to pull back and follow the group like he ended up doing and Kenny telling him off then going to take on Carver the more direct way because Luke's idea would've been like giving up to him. I highly doubt Luke just bailed without saying anything.
EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, we know he at least tried to reason with Kenny because when asked Kenny mentions him 'whining' about something or the other and then Kenny telling him to take a hike.
Secondly, I think Luke has proven that he can take pressure, he was surprisingly calm considering the circumstances during both the walker attack and the stand-off with Matthew on the bridge.

Luke's not bitten. He doesn't show the symptoms of a walker bite, such as the skin rotting, the white of his eye turning yellow, bags under … morethe eyes growing darker, etc.
He was tired and exhausted from lack of sleep and food, and I'm surprised that he found the energy to brave through a field of walkers at the end.

I can get people wondering if there's something up with Luke in general, because his character is still somewhat unexplored and we haven't b… moreeen with him as much as the rest of the group, but I'm not sure why the bitten theory is so popular. He only acted squirrely during the scene where he pulls Clementine aside, where he had clearly been pushing himself for days on little or no food and sleep, busting his ass to catch up to the group and then hiding from the guards and walkers, etc.
After he gets caught though, he seems to be speaking, reasoning, everything pretty much normally and seems to be recovering. If he were bitten, wouldn't it be the opposite, with his condition worsening over the course of the episode?
Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. It definitely makes sense that he would've risked resting up in the comic store in anticipation of getting the radio and needing to be alert to monitor the guards for the group. And if he'd been bit, he certainly would have looked and acted worse when he woke up, not pretty much normal, if not a little worse for wear.

Luke wanted to stay, rest up, and bide their time, but the group wanted to leave that night so Luke took a position that he didn't agree with for the sake of argument so he can try to convince the group that postponing their escape is for the best. Sure it was an unpopular idea, but he used that argument to strengthen his reasoning of delaying the breakout.
Not everything is black and white in Telltale games. You have to look for a deeper meaning which you seem to have trouble grasping.

No, he's not useless. he was the one who came up with the plane to escape in the first place, making them escape. If Luke never helped them escape he wouldn't have been there to save her in the forest.
