Storytelling in TWD. Are the possibilities endless or is it doomed to get repetitive?

Do you think the TWD universe has room for endless unique story arcs or will the game become stagnant like the comics are at this point after 10+ years of rehashing old plots?

Season 2 feels pretty original so far except for a little bit with Carver being like the Governor.

Do you think Wellington will turn out to be something completely new or will it be another community like Alexandria having conflicts wih other communities.

Do you think Telltale can come up with more new stuff than Kirkman can with his slow comic releases?

  • I think they can come up with more stuff. If they can keep it fresh and original, I don't see why not. :)

Well, the subplot of 'running and looking for safe havens' was already explored in season one. We still need to see an overarching villain (Carver doesn't count) and a fleshed-out 'community' storyline. Whether that storyline is to found at Wellington, we'll have to see. I think those are the only subplots left for the game before the game starts to rehash the same plot lines.

Of course. Disregarding the glaring problems I have with S2, I trust Telltale has enough 'new' plot material for a possible S3. It'd be any future seasons after that I'd get worried that Telltale might rehash old plot lines.

  • Of course.

But we don't know how much freedom Telltale has to play around the universe and expand it. Kirkman got pissed when AMC revealed too much about the infection outside the U.S.

I'm happy that Telltale is expanding the universe by taking us to Michigan and getting us really far from where Rick and Co are right now. But how much new stuff can they add that Kirkman will allow is what has me worried.

  • As long as TTG use their imagination, the possibilities for plots--to an extent--are endless! :D

  • Pretty much, If they run out of ideas though they can get some from all the comics and 4 seasons (As of now) of the TV show ;)

  • As far as the major story driving conflicts go, I honestly think it's doomed to become repetitive, no matter what the incarnation. As per Kirkman's general vision, there is never going to be a cure or a discovery of the cause, so that's out as a potential endgame and story driving element. As a result, all we have is the general "plot" of "characters trying to survive in the apocalypse", and in a world where the primary antagonists are always zombies and bad people, it's hard to keep things fresh with either. Blurring the lines between good and bad and what you have to do to survive is always nice, but it can get old as well.

It goes to show how important the characters are, because the only thing you can really do to keep this kind of story fresh is to keep the characters varied and interesting, not only with a zombie apocalypse set up, but especially for something like TWD in any of its incarnations, where the main focus is one group of protagonists and focusing on their specific story.

I don't know how much more "new" Wellington or any other settlement rumored to be a safe place can really be with this kind of set up. It can either be a good place that's doomed to fall to keep the story moving, or a bad place that's doomed to fall to keep the story moving.

  • There are still so many things that could be explored:

Good and bad humans, bigger groups and safe zones, hordes and empty towns, an uncertain future and what is happening in other parts of the world.

  • I think it does have endless possibility (for the most part) but I still think TWD Series should wrap up at around a third Season. There's still many possibilities for this series to go from here (I can even imagine adding in new gameplay mechanics) but I don't want the series known for being milked to death or anything, have a nice clean trilogy of seasons and then call it a wrap would be my call anyway.

And that's I'm pissed off about, Telltale needs their share of success too in their stories without the creator being a bitch about it. I would really like them to have unique stories and events without being looked over all the time.

  • They'll think of something ... they have to ... I'm not letting it end here. Besides, it's not exactly going to end on a "happy ending" in Wellington. Shit is going to go down over the next two episodes and I'm looking forward to the ending possibly being more heart wrenching and upsetting than the Season 1 ending .... I didn't know what they would do for Season 2 at the start, but look what they've done now? :)

  • Good and bad humans
Done and done, in the comics, TV series and game.

    bigger groups and safe zones
Done and done yet again, in all the mediums.

    hordes and empty towns
TV series and game. That is, unless we count zombies as the populous. And the horde, the pack, whatever, was encountered in all the mediums.

an uncertain future and what is happening in other parts of the world
First one has been done to death, and will continue to be done long after it has reanimated.
You got me on the other parts of the world, though. It would be interesting to see a land where guns aren't as widely accepted or spread deal with zombies. Like France? Maybe Italy. ''Mario! Do you-a see dat-a zombozo?''
