Practicability of the ribbons

I've been thinking, isn't it completely crazy for prostitutes to wear ribbons that when unlaced result in their deaths?

Even if it's in the best interest of their bosses and clients that they keep absolute "discretion" about everything, this would be way too risky, way more trouble than worth. Think about it. Isn't it common place for clients of that kind of service to do unexpected things? Sometimes even get off hand big time? Clients removing the ribbon during the act accidentally or on purpose would have to be a regular occurrence. During sex, people grab to clothes, hair, etc. to get a hold of the other. A guy hitting a doggy for example usually grabs the woman by the hair or neck, so if a girl was wearing a ribbon some if not most men would end up grabbing it at some point, pulling it towards them, unlacing or tearing it... Imagine if everytime a client suggested removing the ribbon or unexpectedly touched it, the prostitute flipped out like Nerissa did in ep4. Or worse, the shock of doing that and seeing the girl head fall off and roll over, blood everywhere like in room 207's bed.

Can there be more to this issue with the ribbons? Lily's neck had a bruise, so maybe it's not that easy to remove it physically. That would make it a little more practical, but still... What do you guys think?

  • I've been thinking about this. But what if not everybody can remove the ribbon for some reason?

  • There is no proof that it really was the ribbon who killed these girls. Its just what Bigby thinks after Nerissa refuses to remove hers..
I'm still pretty sure these girls were killed with the vorpal blade. (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabberwocky)
Its in the Comic, it was in the book of fables at the start of the game and its magic basically makes sure that, no matter who is wielding it, the head of the target is cut off. "snicker-snack"

I don't think so. Nerissa freaks out if Bigby tries to remove her ribbon. He isn't one of her bosses, and there's nothing that suggests that he trying to remove it would be different than anybody.

Also, I just thought about something else...
the way she screamed without thinking "No! These lips are sealed!" felt to me like, unlike people have been suggesting, she can't by any means say things that she isn't supposed to, however hard she tries. Like there's no "if she says something she shouldn't the ribbon unlaces and her head falls off". When she screamed she probably meant "No! It would kill me!", but as the magic prevents her from talking about the ribbon's ability, the words that came out changed to the usual "these lips are sealed". That leads me to believe that the ribbons can only be removed physically, which would be nice as otherwise it would make another big issue, like tricking the girls into saying something they shouldn't or it happening accidentally wouldn't result in their deaths, lol. What a fucking trap for trouble these ribbons are!

  • If it didnt kill. Then why would Nerissa not want it off?

  • Maybe cause the enchantment on the ribbons commands her to do so. Or the Crooked man got something she values and threatend her to destroy it if she ever takes the ribbon off. Lots of possible reasons you can make up but the only think we know is that we don't know what the ribbon is doing.

  • Well it obv doesnt matter if Nerissa wants Bigby to take it off (Trailer)

Though we all know how Telltale works

  • I agree, I think the enchantment keeps them from randomly falling off or being pulled off. Nerissa is probably scared because two girls died already but it wouldnt be good business for the girls to keep dying accidently.

  • Its Aliens?

  • The Vorpal Blade is locked away, even though we might see it next episode with Snow executing The Crooked Man.

I strongly believe that the 2 vorpal blade references that we see are just there to mislead us. Just like the headless horseman references are false leads. And Bluebeard's past, and the Woodsman axe, etc. Telltale gives lots of possibilities to keep us guessing. That way it's way harder for someone or the comunity to link the right clues and to figure out the mystery. With lots of theories coming up and being mixed with one another things tend to get more and more confusing as we discuss them.

    Its Aliens?

perhaps her own enchantment is tied to the ribbon? ribbon goes away, deal broken, and she loses her legs sorta thing? i could see her really panicking over something like that...
