The Protector

Has anyone noticed how by making certain choices it's clear that there are certain characters who trust Clementine in protecting their loved ones whether it be for a short while or the rest of their life, and all these characters have debilitating weaknesses.

Nick for example is one of these people. If you save Pete, he begs you to look after Nick as he is dying. With Sarah, Carlos asks Clementine to protect her when he and Rebecca goes out to find Luke and Alvin, and he asks Clementine to help him calm her down before he dies. Finally it's the baby, as Alvin tells Clementine to protect his child who he believes may be a girl.

Now with that in motion, if the choice came down to it. Who do you save? Nick, Sarah or the baby?

Comments

  • Nick: clearly depressed and suicidal (even before the apocalypse), and needs emotional support
Sarah: A) Carlos's daughter, B) Clementine's friend (at least in Carlos's eyes) and C) roughly same age.
Baby: Yeah... it's a baby... Be interested to see a self-sufficient baby but...

Shit. It's not really something new you ask, or, more like, challenge us to do, but it doesn't make it easy, not one bit.

I'll probably sound pragmatic and/or cruel, but I wouldn't save the baby. This is potentially unpopular opinion, but in ZA, the baby is a drag on resources. A safe, defended community with a lot of resources - feel free to start reproducing again. Other than that - I'm sorry, but I'm not choosing between an adult, a teen (both potentially capable people, or they can become one in time), and a baby, who'll only become useful when it gets to Clem's initial age at the start of TWD.

And, being the voice of pragmatism, I'd save Nick. He, despite his screw-ups, seems the most capable out of given people.

  • You know what? Neither would I. No offense to me it's either Nick or Sarah, the baby is out of the question.

  • Fuck. This is a hard choice. I know the baby's a baby, but unless I know for sure we're within a mile from Wellington, I don't see it being anyhting but a zombie magnet... I think he/she'd be out of the question. In a ZA, you can only raise a baby in a safe enviroment, 'cause in the open he's gonna get you killed...

I also agree. But, it's a hard choice. Because, Nick is determinant as it is, which means he most likely won't be living for that much longer, but I still think I'd save Nick.

THAT'S TOO HARD. Two of those are kids and one is a character that I really like. It all comes down to if Nick is determinate in this scenario or not.

If he's still determinate, then I would probably go with Sarah since a baby is too hard to take care of while all this is happening.

If he's not determinate, then I would probably have to set the controller down and think for a very long time about it.

  • I see the depressed and suicidal bit in Nick, but not pre-apocalypse?

  • It's just alluded to really, but if you're will Nick in the shed, when you come out and mention to Luke that Nick wanted to die, Luke will say something along the lines of him having those kind of issues even before.

  • Absolutely agree with that. I also would done it.

  • Although that may just have been earlier in the apocalypse, such as when he had to shoot his own mother.

  • I hope that Rebecca will trust Clementine enough to help look after her baby.
