Kenny and Clem overshadowing the whole f*cking group

edited June 2014 in The Walking Dead

I don't like the fact that Kenny and Clem are season 2 group. Don't get me wrong on this sht, I love Clem and Kenny very much, I think they are awesome. Its just that, they are way too awesome, in fact, its they making Season 2 group look like Dcksuckers.

Lets see all these C*cklovers:

Carlos - One of the best doctors of all time. His an expert on dog bites and dealing with turbiones(I could swear you wouldn't tell the difference between an engineer).

Sarah - OMG, this girl has so much depth. I know alot about her mother and her favourite colour. Where she lived before the apocaplse. She is even more useful then Season 1 clem. God, I love her so damn much. She is an Angel

Luke - Yep, we know alot about him too. We know that his father gave him that sharp machete thingy, I forgot Luke's fathers name, God bless the old mans soul, I hope he will maybe find another machete, somewhere in heaven. Depth of Luke is Majestic.
Oh don't get me started with rest of these c+cksucking season 2 crew.

Now, Seriously speaking, I trying to point out that giving Clem and Kenny everything to do and making them overshadow everyone is hurting character development. If Clem and Kenny died I don't think fans would be that much invested in the story. TELLTALE! More characters need great moments. Ok, I'm finished!

  • Either Clem/Kenny need to get less credit for things or the rest of the group needs to get more credit for stuff and thangs.

  • another one of these???

Do you know why season 1 characters were so memorable ?
    Hubs.
We could learn a lot of unnecessary but endearing stuff about them, what they like, how they feel. Gosh, that swing scene with Kenny and Duck. If there was any scene like this for Carlos, maybe I would have cared a little when he died. But now all we get from them is the strict minimum to get the plot going.

  • The more the merrier. Telltale needs to be aware of this problem and need to get on top of it before Episode 4.

  • I think its funny that the game sometimes expects me to side with people who AREN'T Kenny. "Help Kenny" or "Restrain Sarita". Really? That was a tough moral dilemma, TTG. Thanks a lot!

  • Well...i gues it has something to do with the obvious reason that Clem and Kenny are the main characters of this game. (Besides Lee of course, but he died already as we all know)

  • They're the protagonists, so it understandable to a certain extent. However, you're right that they could show more of the other characters. I like them all but sometimes I just get the feeling they're only there to die...

    Don't count on it.

  • Agreed, Bonnie is one of my favorites because we know her past. I like Sarita too but just because she's friendly, we don't know much else about her.

  • Kenny is not the protagonist.

  • In Season 1, everything was just starting, everything was over a longer period of time, there was time to get to know the other characters and about them and stuff. This season, we're right in the middle of this shit. And since the start of the season it's been very action heavy. Who knows, Clem probably knows all about everyones personal lives during the long walks between episodes.

I like Nick, we know a bit about him.

Well, we met Omid, one of the best characters in series, three months in. Time doesn't turn human beings into one dimention zombie-food. Oh and whats the point of having action, when there is not much at stake reminds me of those micheal bay movies.

  • It's not so much that they're overshadowing the rest of the group, it's just that the group is hardly being developed enough so they both kinda drown out the rest of the characters.

  • Well in season 1 you could say clementine and lee over shadowed the group in some ways.

  • That cast had the benefit of more time to deliver both personal exposition and develop through scenes of their own, both outside and well within the main plot.

  • well they should let us experience those long walks and let us talk for fuck's sake. and don't pull the "we're right in the middle of this shit" because we aren't anymore for ep 1 it was acceptable cause there was no time to chat, but in episode 2 we get the ski lodge where we barely talk to anyone, and that shitty hub in the pen in episode 3. telltale needs to slow down and let us talk for a change.

  • For Clem, it's normal, she is the main character so obviously she has more screentime than anyone else but I agree that Kenny is overshadowing the rest of the group. The fact is that he has a HUGE and very loyal fanbase so we know that some people will always side with him no matter what. I think that instead of Kenny we should have met a character who is not liked that much like Lily for example. It would make the decisions harder that way.

But anyway, I love season 2, it's great!

  • Lol, so maybe make Kenny and Clementine boring and everything will be solved by your logic? :P

  • Luke's father is Carver.

Okay, first: Clem isn't "overshadowing" the new group any more than Lee did in season 1. She's the freakin' PC, after all. Come to think of it, the fact she's a young child is only more reason why she's INCAPABLE of overshadowing the other characters, simply because you're less likely to acknowledge the views of a little girl than an imposing adult.

Secondly, Telltale has been doing more with Kenny than using him as a "nostalgia tool" (although I'm still not entirely sure how allowing a character to SURVIVE this long is supposed to qualify as "nostalgia"). The man's had a serious role to play in S2, as if Carver's murder wasn't evidence enough. We still have two more episodes to go, and signs are pointing towards a defining moment for Luke, at the very least. When the season is over, and the entire S2 crew has fulfilled their respective arcs, THEN you can attack Clem and Kenny's roles in the story to your heart's content.

  • I get what you're saying, but that's a bad example. Both are theoretically trying to help Kenny (at least I thought). Either try and help him, or restrain Sarita thinking her getting involved is only to make things worse.

  • well.

Clementine kind of HAS to overshadow the group, considering... oh hmm, I don't know, maybe that she's the fucking protagonist?!

It's only Kenny that seems to be overshadowing them all, if they're really going to go through with the Pizza VS Ice cream decision, then they better make it FAIR and EVEN.

  • Good point, the OP seems to be attacking Clem and Kenny for the lack of depth in the other members of the group, without realising the average player has more faith in the survivors of season one so they are more of the fan favourites than others.

  • no like ive said I like people that express their problems with the problems of the episode, but some people are just straight bitching. talking how its complete shit and that it sucks. its still good but is missing a lil more than it should. I still love it an I think its still great, but I can see where people are complaining, well are concern, but again some people are just over doing it, imo.

  • Good points, but the majority of your downvotes come from the way you phrased it.

  • Yeah and with good reason. They are the two most interesting characters in the game. I mean it says a lot when Sarah(a complete and utter useless dork) is the 3rd most interesting character.

    ...What's with the random slurs?

That aside, I agree with you for the most part. Even the best developed characters outside of Clem and Kenny: Sarah, Rebecca, and Luke are still pretty unexplored and we've been given little to no time to learn about them, their backgrounds, and so on.

Clem has to dominate things to a certain extent being the PC (though honestly, I'd argue she's being a little shortchanged in the character focus department herself even if she's getting to do a lot of awesome things plot-wise), but the amount of time spent on Kenny so far is a problem, imo. With S2's very limited time devoted to character development, what time there is really should be going more to characters we haven't had a season to get to know already. But I doubt that's going to change any time soon, Kenny's too popular, the episodes are too short and are more about story than characters now, etc. etc.

  • Clem or Kenny shouldn't be killed though.

  • I see that train of thought now, but in the moment I was seeing my dearest friend get beaten into a pulp. The choice practically made itself.

  • I agree that (as much as I love him) Kenny's been hamming it up too much and taking away from screen time other characters could get, but... Clementine is the protagonist of the game.

  • I don't know, maybe if you were able to discern character depth beyond a binary of "cocklover" or "awesome", you might enjoy the game more.

You should think about being nicer to them...that's just my advice

He - accidentally, I dare say - became one of the most interesting characters of the season in A House Divided. But alas, even though the choice regarding his fate was great in my opinion, it made him a prop the following episode. Sad.

  • Judging from your post I can tell that you didn't bother to read the thread and decided to just skip the whole manuel and write what ever came out of your skull. Anyway, I am not saying Telltale should make them boring. I am saying other characters should also have great moments and not be plot devices in human bodies. For me, these characters all feel like generic zombie snacks.
